This is the disturbing moment a mother is forced to feed her 13-year-old son during his marathon 48-hour gaming session at an internet cafe when he refused to leave the screen to eat.

Lilybeth Marvel, 37, says she became worried two years ago when her son Carlito Garcia began staying late at an internet cafe in Nueva Ecija in the Philippines.

Footage shows her coaxing Carlito into eating breakfast she is delivering to him during one of his gaming binges this week.

The boy becomes agitated and cannot even bring his eyes from the screen or hands off the keyboard as his mother feeds him.

Ms Marvel can be heard saying to Carlito: 'My poor child... Here, eat now.

'You have so much money, it might take till tomorrow for you to get home. Are you still needing to pee? My goodness, just feel sorry for my child. You are so irritating.'

She seems deeply concerned for Carlito as she says she is worried he may not eat until the following day.

She also asks the child if he wants to take vitamins that his grandmother has sent because she is worried he is becoming malnourished.

The teenager has skipped school and sits alone 'like a zombie' playing his favourite battle royale game on the computer, 'Rules of Survival'.

Massage therapist Ms Marvel and her husband, a security guard also named Carlito, removed the boy from school while they try to deal with his addiction.

The concerned mother has now pleaded online for help.

Explaining why she brought breakfast from her home all the way to the computer shop, Ms Marvel said: 'I used to just nag about his online games. But that didn't work. So I'm trying a different approach.

'I try to make him feel that whatever is happening in his life, I am his mother who loves him and takes care of him.'

She said that trying to ban him had not worked - and he would find ways to sneak away to the internet cafe.

Ms Marvel added: 'My husband and I decided that he should stop schooling first because of his addiction. Now we're trying our best to manage the situation but it is still difficult.'

She is delusional to think that this candid approach will change something. If she doesn't impose limits to him, this will only get him more lazy and spoiled.

Kagey K Kagey K , can't you take a break from playing Crackdown 3?

Someone send her links to the guys who died during marathons.

This is fucking silly. I'd slap the taste out his mouth if I was his father. I will not watch my son die a stupid death like this.

My father would do the same if I was this stupid kid. Thanks God my dad taught me how to be a man. Wait until this kid grows up and soon he'll realize that the biggest problem is not math homework.

Late stage capitalism!

What does capitalism have to do with this, sounds like just some lazy entitled chode and his mother who should know better but welcome to Modern parenting LOL

I would say this is more late-stage helicopter parenting more than anything

I used to do playstation binge during its heyday in late 90's. I was playing Medal of Honor and wanted to finish in one sitting. My mom asked me to take a break for lunch and i kept playing get some nazis lmao. Then my mom came to me and grabbed the console, pulled it forcefully from my tv set and threw it outside the window. Then, being an asian mom, it's customary to beat their petulent kids with broom, clothes hanger or sandals.

This is what happens when you stop smacking kids as a punishment for being naughty. If they don’t have that fear, they fear nothing.

I’ll take away your iPad” doesn’t have the same ring to it as “Don’t make me get the belt” does.

'

Millennial mum having trouble to discipline her son and thus raises another generation of millennial.

Slap the boy hard, yank him home and lock him in his room without electronics.
He can leave the room when it is time for school.

Damn, Ms. Marvel already having so many problems before her big screen debut...

In all seriousness, this sort of addiction is highly disturbing and actually needs an intervention.

I doubt this kid will have the chance to grow up - he'll be dead in a few weeks / months.

Your mother sounds like a force of nature. You deserved both that and the beating. Did that help in making you realize what a terrible thing you were doing to yourself?

That's Captain Marvel. Ms Marvel is a different character these days - a much more likeable one tbh.

I did, it was just long enough to hug Kojima and whisper in his ear that his games suck, after that I was right back on the fun video games.

Only I’m playing Anthem now, and it still sucks less then anything he has done in the last ten years.

*insert salt intensifies gif here*

Why doesn't she have the manager of the internet cafe ban him? Or drag his ass home and punish him (or have the father do it?) This isn't' parenting. It's enabling.

Quick someone send her a link to me, I wouldn't mind a nice woman feeding me :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Honestly though she's just enabling him, lets hope the little shit doesn't find Fortnite or he'll never leave the internet cafe alive.

No salt, nothing but truth. Kojima hasn’t done anything in almost 10 years and the clock is running out on MGSV.

If I had such low performance at my job, I would be fired or made redundant.

Which he was.

Both he and Inafune used their standing within the community to appear as total victims. We all saw how amazing a free-by-Capcom game was by Inafune (cough ptui), let's see how Kojima will fare as he makes a game probably no one will prevent him from making … and see if Konami holding him back was wise or foolish.

I’m confused as to why she has a fork or spoon on the plate and yet she chooses to shovel balls of egg and rice into her son’s mouth with her hand instead. Why? Why bring the utensil? Why don’t you smack the kid upside the head? Why? Why?

So many whys.

I have to assume the answer always is, because it’s fake. They come in prepared to shoot whatever they need to and fake or “ad lib” as they go.
The video does look a little fake to me, but why fake it? What does this particular story achieve?

If it’s about “evil video games”, the 90s called and they want their news stories back. Nobody cares anymore.

It is either fake-for-clicks or it is really sad.

If the latter, while I normally find physical punishment abhor-able, once things have been allowed to go this far, it might be the only way to course correct and fix this childs behaviour.
The child needs a serious reset and relearn boundaries. What is and what is not acceptable behavior.
Somehting this severe I think is beyond a stern talking to. That will not change his behavior.
So, sadly, very sadly, I think daddys belt is the only solution, unless they want the child to grow up as a failure,

Slap the kid, yank him home. Never let him to leave the room unless going to school. No tv, no pc, no game console and no smartphone.
Liberal application with daddys belt to teach him what is correct and what s not correct behavior.
And he will course correct and become a normal person.

Slaping the kid and locking him in the room isn't gonna help much since instead of going to school he'll try to sneak to the cafe to feed his addiction.

Simply send him to the addiction camp, one day some gentlemen will come to pick him up from the cafe, he's gonna kick, cry, yell but overall it'd be for his own good.

You might be right. He is too far gone and his loser millennial parents have already proven they can not discipline the child.
3 months at a harsh boot-camp to reset and relearn respect might be what is needed.

Depends on the laws and regulations of each country.
Regarding this, laws are vague and can be easily manipulated. Eg you cant simply ban the entrance of minors to net cafes. Eg they might want to access the internet for school work, chat or access to news, entertainment etc

Where I live net cafes law prohibits minors from playing video games though it is hardly applied. More than half of the players are school kids, even during school hours. They are allowed to enter but not play games, just access the internet. Though owners and their employes hardly regulate that, same for the authorities.

There were proposals for a separate room for minors and adults in net cafes. For minors time limits were proposed, especially at night hours and also filtered internet access. But this still remains on paper

The entire thing was likely entirely fake and staged. It's literally manufactured outrage. She was probably paid quire well to do it.

This is standard Daily Mail tabloid garbage. For those who don't know, the Daily Mail is a tabloid rag in the UK famous for printing sensationalised garbage. It has zero journalistic credibility, and exists purely to generated fake outrage and clickbait. It was doing clickbait decades before clickbait was cool.

Anyone who fell for this, good job. Some of the replies in this thread are absolutely priceless.

Well, late stage capitalism is a term coined by socialists in the late 1930s that has come to refer to modern capitalism from World War 2 onward. ... I was using it to point out how much further the west has fallen since 1945, this includes the failure of parents in parenting their children.

Life as an Asian kid lol I was playing Phantasy Star 3 when my mom did the same thing. Asian moms were a lot tougher before.
