MS banning users over Halo 4 DLC debacle

This case seems more like a mistake than a situation of planned bannings, let's hope MS handles this one better than their other incidents. For a paid service, MS treats their customers amazingly terrible.

You obviously have no clue who I am.

It's harder to find a bigger Anti-Microsoft Gaffer than I.

I simply have no love and feel no pity for "schemers".

There's no evidence of him being a "schemer", and the fact that MS banned someone playing a legitimate copy of the game is not something I can support as consumer.

Seems more like being apologetic of Microsoft's terrible practices. The burden of proof should be on them, not on the consumer.

iiuc

His receipt is from Launch Day.

Getting a receipt != buying something. It doesn't matter when the store rang up the game, MS wouldn't have a way of knowing anyway.

The guy pulled some shady shit to get the game early.

He got caught.

He's paying the price.

I don't understand the tears.

Edit:

Sorry for the DP.

As long as you send in an altered copy containing no confirmable information, you're good to go.

MS claimed it's 'altered' on the basis that the receipt showed the release date and not the actual date Skelington received it. The store post-dated the receipt for obvious reasons, and thus MS accused Skelington of being shady.

It's a Safe bet you don't understand any of the actual details.

I respect him for that.

What I don't respect is the tears.

Basically, MS is punishing him for not selling out the place that sold it to him.

While I'm neutral on that whole situation, I do enjoy how people seem to think protecting that store is some sort of noble thing, when that store seemingly didn't offer their customer a replacement 360 for their mishap, or care about that guy at all.

I believe Skelington has a sweetheart arrangement with the store, he probably gets discounts and early releases all the time, and doesn't want to give up a good thing.

Get lost, the deal was still SHADY. Guy buys a game, the store owner doesn't give him a receipt and says he will put the money in the cash register once the game is released?
That's fucking Shady. Maybe you don't understand the word.

Should MS be banning people for playing legit copies of their game just coz a store fucked up?
Nope, of course not.

Doesn't stop that guys story from being SHADY though.

Yeah... No. Just because you think it's okay for MS to enforce a policy that's for STORES only, does not make it okay. How is it shady getting a game early, do you think he held a gun to there head and made them hand it over?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Appeal_to_emotion

You have NO clue where he bought it or under what circumstances.

I'm pretty sure it was not a damn Gamestop. They lock that game away till street date.

The real question is which one of the banned is going to break down first and buy a new console. Still amazes me someone like in the other thread would reward MS with more money for fucking them over.

Surface of Me

I'm not an NPC. And neither are we.
So this thread has turned into the other MS banning thread now eh?

I also agree with people earlier about some people using this as an MS bitching thread, why is thinking this is an automated mistake a baseless assumption and thinking MS did it out of sheer malice not?

WTFSHIT

I logged into Halo 4 & went to the DLC option & when I clicked the crimson pack, it showed it as free!
I had no idea it was a glitch.

I played the DLC maps for one day, is there a way to still play them online without getting banned?

you guys should think a few times before popping in your disc and giving the population and xblive charts your vote, the population numbers are sinking lower and lower, if they were to continue to sink we might actually be able to get a halo game we want to play instead of one designed to have a F-tier movie packaged in, a half a page manual, dorito/dew xp bullshit, preorder dlc skin graphics, pretty much every petty childish piece of garbage marketing ploy in the book, NO RANKED MM, and shitty shitty short campaigns which are just push buttons to get to next COOL DUDEBRO scene all so IGN can give it a 9.8/10. Seriously!?

we can and will have a halo that is ran at a decent framerate, a game with dedicated servers. believe.

do it for halo ce and halo 2. the #'s are low enough where each individual can make a difference.

that is my plea. thanks to anyone who read this.
I read it, your post is shit.

probably the guy is mates with the dude that works there and doesn't want to get him sacked.

Due to a lot of players downloading the maps for free, Microsoft labeled it as a promotion for anyone who picked the game up early. Then, they automatically banned a majority of the players who used the free promotion (along with Map pass members apparently) by accident. It'll most likely be fixed extremely quickly as this makes no sense.

Also: Do we know if it's splitscreen with guest accounts or with other live accounts?

Unless I've been miss informed or misread, you'll get banned for playing split-screen outright whether you purchased the maps or not. Players have been banned outside of split-screen but no pattern is known, or seems less frequent.

I'm avoiding the game altogether, and I'm not sure if I'll come back.

If you admit the copy was legit and that MS was in the wrong to ban him, what else matters?

I never realized this could happen either. I am glad I finished the DLC achievements and went to my backlog.

Poor 343. Losing so much money on problems that aren't their fault.

I only play Halo 4 Spartan Ops, and I'm a couple episodes behind, but I saw the notice that the map pack was free (couldn't remember if I bought some limited edition) and downloaded it. Haven't ever played it. Now I'm afraid to even put the game in.

It's weird, I'm not much of a fan of Halo at all (though I buy and play through every one), but I think Halo 4 is excellent. I was surprised by all the GAF hate, but I guess all the things I disliked about Halo are missing from this one (and are what everybody else enjoys).

Exactly this.
People might not know better.
Microsoft can't just assume that every single one of their customers is a hardcore gamer that follows release dates as closely as some people follow the ten commandments.

I don't/can't keep track of release dates sometimes and I would be VERY horribly pissed if I get banned because street dates mean so fucking much to a company.

Hell, so many people got their Wii Us a day or two early and I bet they went online with it, yet they weren't banned from Nintendo, yet this thread here isn't the first one I see about people getting banned from Xbox Live or PSN just because they played a game two days early or got something for free because somebody else fucked up.

Stuff like this is just playin stupid and totally anti-consumer.
As I said before in this thread, it wouldn't make me wanna buy the next game in the series, let alone anything from that specific company, out of fear of being banned again (if possible) because some schmuck sold it to me a few days early again.

Microsoft said:
As an additional reward to those customers that participated in our "14 Day, Play and Ban" program, we are providing complimentary bans via the Crimson Map Pack for a limited time, through Tuesday, December 18 at 9am UTC/GMT.There were some initial complications with the distribution of the "14 day, Play and Ban" reward tokens, and so we decided to provide the additional bans for Limited Edition buyers for a limited time, as a "fuck you" to our customers that contributed to the success of the "Halo 4" launch.

is this what we'll see on monday ?

MS provide early specialisation code as per promotion that ran until Nov 20

Code has a glitch which allows users to download Crimson Map Pack for free

MS embrace the glitch and tells users to download, allowing them to play for a limited time

MS begins banning said users who who were encouraged to download their "glitch" DLC

That's fucking entrapment :lol

OP, probably chuck this in the OP for those who aren't aware
I just got done watching season three of The Wire.. Fuckin Hamsterdam is what they've pulled off here lol

Such a huge buildup for this game, too. Lower than expected sales, screwing up DLC's release, now banning those that have done nothing wrong. Dem graffix are nice, though. Lol

I love my Xbox 360 and hate my PS3 paper weight. And yet I hope with all my soul that Microsoft fails next gen and Sony stomps their ass. Harsh over-reaction on my part?
