My PS4 is noisy, yours?

Mine is very quiet, never hear it at all, even when playing FFXIV or Infamous:SS. Mine is in a very well ventilated area though. My launch PS3 on the other hand is loud as hell when it starts ramping up!

The disc drive is very loud when installing.
Once installed, it gets totally quiet.

As for running things from the hdd, mine is quiet, till now.
We all know they get louder as time goes by.

My ps3 was very quiet early on, but became very loud after 2 years of use.

If I multitask I can hear the fan kick on, otherwise no. Like everyone else's drive, mine is very noisy but games on PS4 dont stream from the disc, so it's only an issue during installation.

Mine's loud after playing Infamous for a few minutes, to the point of distraction. Easily the loudest console I've ever owned. I am pretty sensitive to noises though. I would have GLADLY paid more for the PS4 if it had a larger case with better cooling. It's strange that Don't Starve would cause the PS4 to get loud since in my case only taxing games (Infamous, Killzone) cause the fans to kick into overdrive. The disc drive is incredibly loud as well but at least that stops after a bit. While I love the power of the PS4, physically speaking, the console feels very cheaply made overall, IMO.

I returned the first one i bought and the second was the same, noise bugs me so i'm not sure i believe the silent folk.

Yeah, I don't want to go through the hassle of swapping with Sony and come out no better than I was before. I've done that with other items such as buzzing plasma TVs where "people on the Internet" said theirs was perfect and yet I kept getting bad ones. It turns out most people are apparently semi-deaf so I don't know what to believe.

Nope, mine isn't at all.

I have mine sitting on sponge feet like all my consoles, i don't know if this helps eliminate some of the noise, could it be some sort of vibration making yours (OP) loud ?

I keep mine out in the open on my computer desk. Plenty of clearance all around it. If I turn on ISS, DW8, KZ, Knack, or Don't Starve it really kicks up.

I can sometimes hear my PS4 running, but it's usually only when I am launching a game off a disc. I also have it sitting out in the open as opposed to in a shelf, to allow maximum airflow. Have never heard the "jet engine" sound like some people are reporting, and I've had it since launch.

You're always going to get varying responses on this type of thing. One man's noisy is another man's quiet.

Mine is very quiet when first turned on, but gets louder the longer it's on. Ultimately it doesn't get too loud, but it definitely has a fan droning noise to it.

Mine gets very loud when I pause NBA 2k14 and then randomly while playing certain games. Mine is horizontal on a level surface with 360 degree airflow (the most optimal conditions to be honest) and I just assumed it was normal. I would prefer it to be quieter but it doesn't bother that much, as long as it's working.

10 minutes of inFamous:SS or Killzone and mines audible just under a level I would consider annoying, otherwise I don't really notice it's on.

Mine is noisey, if your worried look for the Digital foundry figures of noise levels.I measured mine and it was only a couple of decibels louder. Use an app to do it, remember 30 decibels is quiet.

There are times when mine gets noisy. The fans kick up and it causes a vibration because all 4 corners of the console don't sit firmly on the desk. I stopped most of the noise with a couple of guitar picks taped together that I use as a shim under one corner.

Mine is whisper quiet, significantly more so than my PS3 which itself is significantly quieter than my 360. It makes a slight hum for about a minute when playing a disc game but then I hear the disc drive disengage and it's inaudible afterwards. I just tested it now, whilst playing inFamous and even with my TV on mute I had to move my ears to about 1ft of the console before I could hear a hum.

I think it depends on the temp of the room. My living room is pretty cool (about 20°C) so the fan doesn't kick up to a higher speed.

Mine is pretty noisy, almost as much as my PS3 slim (but still not nearly as much as the 360). Been like that since day one, I was kind of surprised. Vertical, on top of the TV cabinet, more airflow than it could possibly want.

Both my ps4's are silent and never hear them. My launch ps3 though, jeez that thing sounds like its gonna takeoff, even with my surround sound on i can still hear that thing

mine also gets noisy time to tme, esğecially when booting up things.
but it is vertical, and theres always been a disc inside it, and i forgot to turn it off for a week a couple of times

When it first starts and reads the disc, yup, noisy. It settles down after that.

However, when it installed Tomb Raider I thought my system was going to explode. SO fucking noisy. If it was always that noisy, I wouldn't have continued playing the game.

My launch PS4 is silent in menus or watching video via Netflix/Amazon, and while playing simple games like Rayman or Don't Starve. It's quiet during many 3D games like Trials and Outlast, and gets audible during intensive games like Killzone (loudest I've heard it) and Infamous. Even at its loudest it is noticeably quieter than my fat PS3, so the noise is never a problem.

mine isn´t silent.. and not loud.. it makes some noise.. like two escort girls in rubberclothes on a squeaky bed, and one of them has a wooden leg.

Mine is usually quiet. I've had some moments where the fan goes crazy but these are rare. It happens when the system is running for more than 4-5 hours...

I bought one at launch and it was loud so I thought "Oh it's a launch model or maybe it's faulty" Then I picked up a second one in February and it sounds the same so I guess the PS4 is just "Loud".

Not loud like OG360 but I hear fans when I game on both of them.

quiet as a mouse, last time I heard _anything_ from console was during Infamous SS, must be CPU heavy game, but still I could barely hear spinning fans

it's supposed to be super quiet, so your PS4 is definitely faulty

oh and btw it's laying horizontally

I'd get it replaced if you can. There was a night and day difference between my first one and the replacement. Amazon.com was very nice about it too, shipping with express to Europe even though I originally only had the second fastest shipping option.

Mine is loud when I game. As soon as I stop playing it goes back down.

If I'm not mistaken, mine goes loud with discs and digital copies as well.
