New Atari hardware to be announced Feb 1st.

Gameband's other device is basically a watch/wristband thingy that can be connected to your computer to play Minecraft. This is probably the same, but for Atari games.

Interesting. Had this been March I wouldn't believe it. Question is, who even remembers Atari outside of older core gamers?
These kind of retro plug & play toys are targeting older guys who grew up with those consoles (as you can guess for a console that sold 25 million units there are a lot of them).
The Atari Flashback 2 shipped almost one million units in North America back in 2005.

The only Atari game worth playing in 2017 is the "trace who the fuck owns the rights to various IP originally created by the company started by Nolan Bushnell called Atari."

In fact, this should be made as a sequel to The Big Short. "Here's Margot Robbie in a bubble bath to explain who owns Paperboy."

Sounds to me like someone needs to revisit the greatness that is Maze Craze.

Yep, you just have to spin it that way so you can yell they are ripping off Nintendo, right?

What?? lol retro consoles existed way, way before Nintendo launched its own.
However, the Nes classic being successful, they want to make money too by following the trend, which is completely understandable, and fine by itself.
But it's "Atari" we're talking about, so I maintain: it will be a cheap piece of crap with a big logo on it.

This is the minecraft version of the gameband.

It looks stupid as fuck.

I was just about to mention that.

Also, the minecraft one was $80. I expect a similar price point for Atari's collection.

But how does that "let you play Atari classics in a whole new way"?? I know PR speak. But you would think they actually thought of something new? I dunno controls the game with finger motion detection or something?? On the go..

A wearable USB key would be just ...weird.

There's been an "Atari mini" type device available for a long, long time now. Far before the NES Classic was even announced.

True. But what many may not know on here, given the number of posts about them "already having done that" is that all their previous Flashback devices were absolute garbage. They were cheaply made, lacked any QC and didn't even mimic the look or feel of the Atari console.

So perhaps this is their chance at making it right. But I doubt that considering they just released the Flashback 7.

I'd be excited for an Atari mini with paddles and joysticks included.

As Sartre noted in his contemplation on Hell in No Exit, the true horror is other members.
Maybe it's time to finally get a Handy from Atari?

You know, this thread got me thinking.

If Atari, in some bizarre alternate universe, bought out the Xbox division, gave them a sizeable budget, and got the fuck out of the way, that'd be interesting to see.

This will definitely be something similar to the NES Classic. All of these Atari ratings just passed through the Brazilian game ratings board today:

That's for the Atari 520 computer line (ST/STE/STF) and has probably absolutely nothing to do with what's proposed here.

Even if I believe it's time something like Amiga Forever was made for the ST (or at least, as well made)

I don't know what's the point when the Atari Flashback collection is available for the main consoles?

Funnily enough, there was a prototype of a Jaguar 2 apparently:

And yes, I just found out about this through google. No idea if any of it this is true.
No this is the Jaguar and Jaguar cd in one. Like SEGA Neptune.

There was an Atari Jaguar 2 though..
