Although I hope they lose, strategically I think they should sacrifice Jamie and continue battling. However this is much more about family honor (this all started because of Tyrians arrest) so it will never happen.

Jamie is probably the Lannister that Tywin cherish (if we can say that from such an ice-cold guy) the most. And even if Tywin is not brought to lead with "feelings" he would, for his family "standing" and reputation, NEVER give up on Jamie (he cared to raise an army to crush Riverland for Tyrion whom he most probably despise already).

Everytime Peter Dinklage enters the scene I wish there was one of those comedy show crowd cheers. :p

Tyrion Lannister remains my absolute favourite character.

Man is amazing, the way he's talking down to the Queen in his new position of power is incredibly satisfying as well (despite her bitchy joke story on her exit)

Also just rewatching this new ep, I'd forgotten how much I disliked Sam. He's so incompetent and pathetic and despite his good intentions for the girl he is incredibly foolish to do so, maybe I'd be able to take it better if his face wasn't a caricature of a blithering idiot.

Am I the only one slightly weirded out by how the entire Lannister family love their blood sports?

I know that Joffrey is a proper shithead with a sadistic streak, but I thought his siblings were more kind hearted.

I don't recall seeing his siblings ._.

Well, Tyrion has no liking for bloodshed it seems.

As for Jaime, it seems to me that he LIKES fighting and he likes to show what he is worth but he is not a bloodlusty mofo who wants to kill just because he can or because he sees it as the most enjoyable solution to assert his power (unlike his eldest son or guys like Gregor Clegane).

I think they show up for about 5 minutes in total, couting season 1.
When Joffrey is playing "let's kill random knights for fun" in last week's episode and in Winterfell when Tyrion joins Cersei for breakfast. That's about it IIRC.

Well Melisandre does have a foreign accent. But that accent is supposed to sound exotic and i cant say that of Carice's accent. But im fine with it, it doesnt bother me greatly.

To be honest, I kind of imagined her accent like that anyway so I don't see the issue.

I guess it's only a problem for Dutch viewers.
You hear a foreign accent, we hear a Dutch person trying to speak English.
But it's a really minor annoyance. Loved the first episode, al though i have to admit it was hard keeping track who is who.

I know, but from a strategy standpoint, Jamie doesn't really matter too much. He's already not considered a noble characater, his sister has more political influence, & Tyrian is way smarter. He's pretty redundant.

However, it shows that Lannister is a flip side to Stark where family trumps everything (Especially when your sister has the hots for you).

By the way, Kingslayer sounds awesome. Whoever conceived of that term as an insult is not really tuned in, especially in a world where there seem to be regular, violent claims to the throne and wars waged against acting kings.

Ok, I get your point. Makes sense strategically.

As a side note, and I won't derail in the books too much (only a comparison between characters as shown in season 1 and book 1 -did not read further anyway-) I feel that Jaime is indeed shown as too "redundant" in the show whereas he is clearly shown as a splendid combatant to behold in the books as well as an extraordinary field war-leader (whereas his father is more of a plotting back-line war-leader).

His psychology in the show is nice, but the character has less of it's qualities and competencies shown.

To mods : do not hesitate to remove the above if your think the comparison between season 1 and book 1 should not be part of this thread.

It's an insult because Jaime is part of the King's bodyguards and did it through treachery, it's not like he was an enemy that killed the King in a battle or something. It's a feudal society where oaths and honor matter. If Robert had killed Aerys it would have been something to boast about, no so much for Jaime.

The word kingslayer's "strength" is the irony in it. To kill a king is a huge feat yes, but not when you're sworn to protect the king you kill with your life. It is the irony of the term that makes the word hurt so much. I think it's very fitting.

Joffrey has the right idea about it. He basically said he's caught and it's war so deal with it. That probably got him the smack more than anything else. Joffrey mught be the brains of the family in his stupidity :lol.

When you compare what security was willing to do with Littlefinger and what they did with all those kids (Not to mention slaughtering nearly the entire household of Stark in King's Landing), what he did appears to be truly unthinkable.

It seems the king enjoys the privilege of automatic trust in his guards regardless of how crazy he is. The name sounds cool if you are an enemy of the king though.

It sounds awesome to us, out of context, but keep in mind that he earned the name by murdering the King he took an oath to protect as a member of the Kingsguard. To emphasize how much of an insult it really is, consider the fact that he killed the Targaryen "Mad King" as he was known. He wasn't a good guy. No one liked him. But Jamie is considered dishonerable because of the fact that he stabbed him in the back. He's not considered a hero for getting rid of such a person. That fact probably wounds his pride even more and the name "Kingslayer" being an insult rather than a title of prowess just furthers that.

Well he didn't exactly do it out of the blue. There was that whole Roberts Rebellion thing that literally just smashed the door down to the city. Not to mention the old Targ king was even nuttier than the current brat that sits on the throne.

If he had had strength of character, he would've done it way sooner.

Aiii

So not worth it

Appears so, so far only Dutch people seem to get distracted by the Dutch accent.

To be fair, it's not as heavy as most of us have when we speaky the English, but for me I find it really takes me out of the scene. Guess I'll get used to it.

I don't think he did it out of the blue. I think he seized an opportunity to be championed & possibly rule himself. He killed the king and then proceeded to sit on the throne, basically doing the easy part of Robert's job (I miss that guy & Stark's insults of him). The battle was already lost to the king & Jamie just had to stand there.

To his credit, he had to be pretty young at the time, but that doesn't change recent history. I think Jamie is a brilliant knight who punctuates his accomplishments with bold acts of stupidity. He's done this since episode 1.

I just checked and the answer to that doesn't currently exist in the show so I can't refute that. But yes, he's an extremely skillful knight who has his moments of stupidity due to boldness or passion.

Everything I mentioned was in the show (I haven't read the books yet). I'm assuming the purpose, of course, since SNed & Robert assumed as well. Right now, we don't entirely know the true intentions. They just associate the act as one of deviousness that didn't help their cause at all.

It's fine to discuss Episode 2 as it is legally available in some locations. Just please be sure to spoiler tag and label any discussion since it hasn't aired yet (e.g. [Ep2]
put comments here

It's because those kids are actually Tyrion's imaginary friends. So they only show up when he greets them.

I bet you Joffrey loves spoiling shit for people too. That bastard...

The Joff totally spoiled episode 9.

you may want to edit that, junior.

I can just imagine that Joffery, Cercei and Jaime have been humoring Tyrion's imaginary nephews and nieces for years

That scene with Theon and that girl has to be the most 'pornographic' scene I've seen in the series by far. I mean, wow. The fact that she wasn't attractive only added to this. It was so awkwardly mesmerizing I had to watch it a couple times. Also, Littlefinger wiping cum off the mouth of that whore a few seconds before she starts kissing that guy.. this ep took it to another level of depravity. Don't remember such graphic scenes and the 1st season, except for the finger banging one. But even that wasn't near as graphic

I'd like the take of anyone else who's seen the ep.

And what's this bullshit about being banned simply by admitting one has watched the ep? HBO has released it officially.

[Episode 2]
It was pretty awkward. Especially since these two scenes were back to back. Straight up "wow, look at that boning" to ... well, more boning. And then some. And then some more. And then creepy Littlefinger being creepy. Considering the amount of time the writers/producers mentioned the whole "sexposition" critiques during the Season 1 commentary tracks, I'm kind of surprised that we get this in Season 2

The more the show goes on, the more they seem to portray Theon as a sex addict. I mean cmon, the girl on the ship was downright unattractive. The stuff in the brothel was sorta expected given the environment I suppose, but nevertheless.

Seems to be the big thing to "get" about Theon, really. He's basically Robb's brother and all right and proper when Robb is around and a giant raging cock otherwise
.

It was. But appearantly only for us Dutchies ;)
We hear the Dutch ringing through her words, the rest of the world just hears some 'excotic' accent.

If she was played by a Swedish actress, it would probably be the Swedes complaining.

I guess it's only a problem for Dutch viewers.

I'm not Dutch, but I don't see why this is a big deal. If you look at the HBO map, Westeros is obviously supposed to be England. All the characters who were born in Westeros therefor speak with a british accent. Why can't there be an analog to The Netherlands in this universe? This woman could have been born in the fantasy version of The Netherlands until she moved to Westeros, which would explain her accent. If british accents can exist in this fantasy world, I don't see why Dutch accents can't.

As a book reader, I won't post anything book-related in this thread, but just let me say that this thread is a joy, as well as reading your conjecture. It makes the experience even more fun :)

I'm happy to volunteer and give information to any of you guys via PM or otherwise if you have questions (or you can add me to the list at the beginning, OP).

Have fun guys!

I wouldn't say it's a big deal, and i agree it makes sense in this world.
I don't know, i've seen Carice in so many movies, and then the accent and the actress just stand out and kind of breaks Immersion a bit for me personally.
On the other hand, i think it's awesome she landed such a big role, and everyone not familiar with her seems to like her.

awesome really hope it gets bigger. Meh.. I wish I would have waited a few years to get in this series. I'm a little scared for it now. I really hope it makes it too S7.
I'm not too worried, honestly. I loved the first season and this first episode of season 2 was solid. I can see it going for a couple more years at least. All the way to season 7? I hope so too. :)
