No Man's Sky to feature music by Porter Robinson.

I've seen a lot of creators have conversations like this on Twitter and I don't think anything has materialized.
I wouldn't say any. What about Hideki Naganuma (Jet Set Radio) being interested in Hover, and then joining on?

No idea who that is, but I'm sure it's gonna be awesome. Judging by their choice of trailer music they have very good taste, and a great sense of what music fits with the experience they're trying to create.

i was either hoping for music like this or Blade Runner esque vangelis type music, so I'm good :D

What I hope is that if Robinson is doing music for the game, that he record original 'vignettes' that play when you enter a new planet for the first time, or when you engage enemies in battle, etc. I fucking love games that do that. The music ramps up or changes in tone based on your actions. Would fit this game's style me thinks.

No thanks. Give me the custom soundtrack ability.

Better yet, give me proper sound design for planets and the vacuum of space for flying.

not feeling this choice. music for NMS needs to be cold, bleak, and ambient. i would not necessarily use any of those words to describe Porter Robinson's music, even the new stuff.

YEEESSSS!!! Porter's new album is fantastic. I'm somehow even more hyped for the game now.

I love when musicians I listen to are also gamers.

Really cool. I had no idea he was big into games until I saw that Facebook post he put out saying he was going to stream the album and play MMOs on Twitch. And that game music quiz.

On the subject of electronic music artists, I really wish someone would pick up Chrome Sparks for some OST. Hell, Hello Games even if they have room for it.

Someone explain to me what's so great about Porter Robinson's music compared to other electronic music artists'.

i mean there are better artists. But Porter Robinson does seem to have a style that would suit certain games better than some other electronic musician artists.

Honestly didn't know who he was, listened to a few tracks and it's alright. Not sure I'm completely for that sort of stuff for the game although it seems to somewhat fit the outgoing, flashy look of NMS. It's certainly refreshing to have a game of this genre coupled with this kind of music so I'm not complaining.

Personally, I'm gonna rock this baby as I'm leaving my first solar system, this right here is space music for my ears: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P_ukfGAd8T4

Yuck. I've only heard 7 seconds of 'Language' upon searching. Not what I think of when I see No Man's Sky. The music used for Gamespot's specials was infinitely more effective in striking the right mood. This would actually turn me off an otherwise highly (hugely) anticipated game for me. Dang.

Side note: I discovered Astra around E3 and their album 'The Black Chord' is my mental soundtrack for NMS because of the album cover (can't link, on Vita). I'm not saying I want that in the game either, though I'd prefer it to "bootsandpantsandbootsandpants"

I'm totally rocking Jean-Pierre Decerf's Surrounding Seas

tell me that shit wouldn't be rad upon first discovering a world. Totally a huge sense of wonder if combined with the right setting <:D

Yeah I can see that. I like what I've heard from him but every time he's mentioned there's always a few "AOTY" comments and I'm not sure why.

it's not necessarily produced for the "big room" like all the other bigger people. He isn't really that special, but he is a breath of fresh air and knows how to produce

This just sounds like space to me https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rgT1qFIWHYc

Star Wubs :p

I don't sense the pacing of some of the songs posted here as a game that suits NMS.

My choices would me;

The Echelon Effect; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VmpdJKsbcX8 < somber, almost sad, industrial trumpets about the sunrise in a post apocalyptic dawn

Akira Soundtrack - Kaneda; Angsty, energetic combat music; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G-wv4pFodIQ

This will Destroy You - Quiet: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aqvmCiNMpCU < exploration, meaningful, discovery. / they move on tracks of never ending light: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aOZsU8elXrI

M83 - Lower your eyelids to die with the sun: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1jmLb2pZzUc < unexplored nature on new worlds.

Language is his old stuff. The album Worlds is his new sound.

Well, you know music is subjective. I happen to love the album Worlds, it's the best thing I've heard all year besides FKA Twigs' LP1. Worlds is just so well produced and his inspirations for the album appeal to me. I was never a Porter fan before until he changed his sound completely with his debut album.

I think people hear the name Porter Robinson they automatically think of his DJ stuff, that's not really what he's doing anymore.

is beloved, despite what anyone might say
Should've been Frederic Robinson. The better, truly forward thinking Robinson.

Oh wow, I heard this song a few days ago on SiriXM Chill and loved it! Forgot the name though... thanks for reminding!

Also I do like Porter, and know he's a big gamer (he said somewhere that it was DDR and PS1 RPG soundtracks that influenced him to get into music design) though his songs seem a bit too peppy for a game like No Man's Sky (based on what I know about it). Would love to see some more spacey, ambient music on the soundtrack like:

Aural Imbalance - Aural Navigation
Circular - Meteorites
LM1 - Dawn on Ixion

I don't know why, but I think Philip Glass would have been perfect. But maybe he's too expensive to afford or he turns his nose up at video games?

Generally not a fan of Philip Glass, but his music would be perfect for this game.

I can almost hear Einstein on the Beach just watching the trailers.

I wouldn't mind seeing the Flaming Lips get involved.

I'd love to see a bunch of bands jump on, and then have the dev team produce procedural audio based on those bands' submissions. Kind of like how they create one four legged creature then hit 'view variants' to get hundreds more. Not likely, but it's a nice thought! lol

Great news!!

And FYI that doesnt mean Porter is going to use his EDM stuff for NMS. He is talented enough to compose a soundtrack fitting for the game. Some EDM DJ/producers are more skilled than you may think.
