Senate Republicans took their first major step toward repealing the Affordable Care Act on Thursday, approving a budget blueprint that would allow them to gut the health care law without the threat of a Democratic filibuster.

The vote was 51 to 48. During the roll call, Democrats staged a highly unusual protest on the Senate floor to express their dismay and anger at the prospect that millions of Americans could lose health insurance coverage.

On Wednesday, Mr. Trump said he would offer his own plan to repeal and replace the law “essentially simultaneously.” He said he would put forth the plan as soon as his nominee for secretary of health and human services, Representative Tom Price, Republican of Georgia, is confirmed.

The budget blueprint instructs House and Senate committees to come up with repeal legislation by Jan. 27.

Joined by four other Republican senators, Senator Bob Corker of Tennessee had sought to delay that deadline by five weeks, to March 3. But late Wednesday night, Mr. Corker withdrew an amendment that would have changed the date.

“We understand that everyone here understands the importance of doing it right,” he said. He described the Jan. 27 date in the budget blueprint as a placeholder.

Trump told them to get on with it, so they did. This is terrible. My hope is that the country would revolt, but it won't.

Way too much out there right now for a focus on healthcare, which gives a likely reason for the timing. Between the Russian hacks, now the BuzzFeed document dump, the various confirmation hearings, Trump going to war with CNN and everything else, Obamacare is hardly being covered.

Yeah, I imagine their just going to roll back to pre-ACA and call it a new plan. They'll probably also fuck with Medicaid for shits and giggles.
