This is getting beyond a joke.

Chainsawing a guy in half as he screams = Pass

Blowing a guys face off and seeing chunks including the eye fly away = Pass

Stomping a guys head into the ground = Pass

Committing suicide = Pass

Scary girl = BANNED

Use morphine = BANNED

Have violence the same level as other games that past = BANNED

Praying graffiti = BANNED.

What the fuck, seriously?

My step dad bought Condemned and Condemned 2 in Australia. Surely there's nothing worse in FEAR2 than what we saw in those two games. Or Gears 2.

This country can be really weird sometimes. (been here two months)

I did a research project at University on classification of interactive entertainment and my conclusion is coming true

'There will come a point where more and more games become banned as they become more realistic. This will be a turning point in the discussion because the Australian games industry is worth over 1 billion dollars per year to the Economy and employs thousands of people. So the Government will have to ask itself, do we continue to censor things and put that billion dollar market at risk, or have some humble pie'

There will be a point where publishers will pull out and give up and in this economic climate it is not SANE to be putting those jobs in jeopardy.

We even have big logo's covering up our boxarts.
That shocked me when I was in Australia. I thought our BBFC ratings were ugly next to the logo-free artwork of American DVDs, but the size of the ones on the front and back of Australian boxes is obscene. I actually bought one that had a reversible cover where the reverse side had the same artwork and everything without the rating logo, which I thought said it all.

Even though this is nothing new for a game to be banned (Getting Up anyone?), I really worry that Australia is entering a new age of conservatism under the Rudd government. With the net censorship they're about to bring in, and banning anything that might be slightly offensive (particularly with the drug use in games...what the fuck really), we are starting to look like prudes.

Fixed.

We don't know why he keeps buying PAL, either.

This is starting to get a bit frustrating. Anyone got an address for that bastard so I can egg his house? Yes, I live in SA, yes it's a juvenile act, no I don't care.

Most of the politicians on the Senate are out of touch about this, too. Seeing these type of games, and describing Fallout 3 in particular, as "murder/drug simulators" that are too dangerous to even risk getting in the hands of children. It's the extension of the video games are nominally for kids mantra that pushes them towards this position. On the ABC show Q & A, several Senators brushed off a guy claiming that plenty of adults played video games as well, and shut down his attempts to put forward the need for R ratings in games with their shoddy second-hand knowledge of the actual game market. And they weren't any Family First party members either. Disappointing.

Publishers should just ban Australia and save themselves the trouble.

It's not our fault, a couple of times now we've tried to get an R18+ rating for games but one attorney general keeps getting in the way.

Don't you guys have some sort of rating system over there? why not make it 17 and over or something? can a 10 year old walk in a Gamespot over there and buy Gears of War or something... it's weird also that some violent game make it and some don't...depends on the mood of whoever takes those decision over there or what? ;P :lol

Yep. 30% slower internet if this internet goes through - I'm making a switch to iiNET soon so I can get an unlimited cap on XBL and premier league. We have education, Medicare, the basics; but when it comes to our media; things are pretty crappy. + the dollar is making it harder to import things :S

Internet censorship? They'll run all of the country's traffic through a content filter or something? Will they block porn too?

What? Last I heard it was going to be a static blocklist of 10,000 sites. I have more than that in my AdblockPlus filters and it certainly doesn't lead to "30% slower internet"

I'm going by what I hear on the Whirlpool forums. Don't know how, why or the technical info; but speed will be reduced. It isn't as simple as an application or browser blocking, I believe the all actual ISP's must enforce the blocking. Correct me if I'm wrong, I'm a little rusty about the situation. But I do remember reports stating that internet may be slowed by 30%.

Dammit i want this game.

:lol I used to go out of my way doing stuff like this, because i initially found the logos so insulting, but i seriously can't be fucked now.

<3 being an American. Government can't ban games here. :D

Though the ESRB can make something AO and Nintendo/Sony/Microsoft will refuse to sell it.... doesn't effect PC games, though!

Also they can't block our porn. :D :D :D
