Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire UK's biggest Pokémon launch ever

Combined sales of Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire have earned Nintendo its biggest UK Pokémon launch of all time.

The combined sales total beat last year's launch of Pokémon X and Y by 17 per cent, UK numbers company Chart-Track announced - despite Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire being remakes of the series' Game Boy Advance incarnations.

Previously, the UK record for a Pokémon launch was held by 2011's Black and White on DS.

Sounds like the 3DS was the top selling hardware in the UK too?

But you'd think Pokemon fans would already have the system by now. Do people chuck out or sell their DS' when they've finished with the game then rebuy it back when the next game comes out? Seems that way if you look at the software charts normally.

The launch looks like it was around 150k for the two combined (if you consider chart track says the combined would be number 3*). If that beats Pokemon BW then my estimates from 2011 were rather...optimistic.

In any case ORAS won't have as a good monthly figures as BW. The monthly sales can probably get a better opening week estimate for BW and thus a minimum for ORAS (if each chart-track press releases gives the % drop then you know the total sum).

*-I hate the all formats for its arbitrary combinations of SKUs. Namely combing two different games with similar names (e.g. Fifa and Fifa legacy crap edition) while ignoring nearly identical ones.

Any stats on how that compares to Gen1 and Gen2?
Gen 1 opening week would not be great as the anime hadn't started airing (outside of Sky subscribers).

Oh no, now it will take even longer for Nintendo to realize that handhelds are dead and mobile is the future.

obviously a joke about that ridiculous BGR article
