Predict what Nintendo teams are working on.

We see the same studios kind of do the same ips, or new studios take the place of others. A big new recruit has been Grezzo. I think after their new IP on 3DS, they will start work on 3D 4 Swords with the BOFW engine. Game has been talked about by Eji. Who else has worked on a MP Zelda? Grezzo's TFH.

Also I believe Team Ninja and NLG are working already on individual Metroid projects. Team Ninja has been very close to Nintendo lately. I think they did the best they could with Hyrule Warriors for it to be compete enough without warranting a sequel. Nintendo wants 2 versions of their IPs now adays. This will please fans of vast tastes. NLG took the place of both the Hunters team and Retro. FF is near completion and by now they are ready to work on their very own solo Prime console experience. Since the artsyle was a problem for some, Nintendo will make a hybrid style of old Prime and FF. Colorful worlds and creatures, but a bit more mature. Why hybrid? Because Nintendo likes to blend old with new. It's how they've transitioned Zelda's art to please both haters and fans of controversial artstyles.

This thread could be fun, but it would be of great help if someone consolidate a list of all of Nintendo's first-party studios/teams, and have it added to the OP.

Hope there will be sequels to Splatoon and Xenoblade Chronicles X. Also one can hope that The Last Story 2 will be an option.
Intelligent Systems: A game that's not Advance Wars.

*sigh*

Fire Emblem will be made for Mobile and NX will support Mobile games so yay!

Well the Galaxy team is assuredly working on a new Mario. There were three years between Galaxy 1 and 2, and another three between 2 and 3D World. It's now been almost three years since 3D World. I would bet that their new game will be a launch title for the NX.

None of them are working on anything and the NX will literally have no games

The teams are a little hard to get right these days with all the restructuring at Nintendo, and there's also a lot of crossover between the developers, but this could be a fun thread still.

Internally at Nintendo (EPD):
They're, of course, working on 3D Mario.
There's also a dedicated Mario Kart team.
It's also likely there's something Splatoon and Animal Crossing in the works.
Pikmin 4 seems to be a thing.

What used to be SPD could be working on WarioWare (with Intelligent Systems) or Tomodachi Life, if I had to guess.

Monolith Soft:
Xenoblade 3.

Nd Cube:
Some party game.

Intelligent Systems:
They're mainly known for Paper Mario and Fire Emblem. Paper Mario is coming to Wii U, so Fire Emblem should be coming.

HAL Laboratory:
Kirby factory.

Game Freak/Creatures:
Pokémon factories.

Next Level Games:
This one is interesting. They're behind Federation Force, but I somehow doubt that's the only thing they have been working on since Luigi's Mansion. If there's another game coming, I could see a Luigi's Mansion 3 considering how well the previous game sold.

Retro Studios:
Not Donkey Kong (TF underperformed, sadly) and not Metroid.

Camelot Software:
Mario Golf NX.

Good-Feel:
2D platformer.

A new Fire Emblem from Intelligent Systems for the NX.

Hopefully one studio are developing a game similar to Metroid Prime...

A new Xenoblade from Monolith which hopefully combines the best aspects of Xenoblade Chronicles and its sequel.

Hope Camelot's working on either Golden Sun 4 or Mario Tennis NX with actual RPG elements again.

I'm sure EAD is working on Splatoon, Animal Crossing, and Mario Kart 9. But to what capacity, we'll see.

Didn't Monolith Soft say they're looking into ideas for Xenoblade 3 already?

EDIT: I meant Mario Tennis instead of Golf, but Golf NX would be nice too.

We should break down the current structure of Nintendo's first party and partners. (Might be forgetting some.)

Yeah, uh, that'll only piss a large chunk of the metroid fandom off again, not please people of vast tastes.

It would have to be a internally developed 2d/3d or retro developed prime game at this point to not have bad backlash.

I think it's pretty straight forward: logical sequels to the highest selling games on 3DS and Wii U, with the occasional surprise (Hyrule Warriors, Splatoon, Captain Toad)

Retro Studios is the most interesting case here because it's difficulty to say exactly what they'll do next and they're one of Nintendo's biggest teams. Plus it's been 2.5 years since their last release.

We know Nintendo is preparing new entries in the 2D and 3D Mario series, so the question is more what we think they'll do within those games. If I were to guess I would say we are getting a SMB reboot, mostly because they're gonna need a new 'skin' as a major selling point for Mario Maker 2 and the 'New' series has five very similar titles so it's time. For me the direction of the next 3D Mario comes down to whether they value same-screen multiplayer going forward. In that case I expect a similar game to 3D World, perhaps with a bit less angular geometry but the same isometric-ish perspective (i.e. giving the game a sense of not being a 'true' 3D Mario). If not, then it's anyone's guess. Maybe SM64-2, SMG3, or a combination of both: open environments that sometimes lead to linear stages (think Sunshine's no-fludd levels). Basically how BotW works, the overworld plays like an adventure-exploration title while the 'shrines' containing tight level design.

EPD is so huge, but it's safe to assume that they're working on all the main stuff. I mean, a new mainline Mario has already been confirmed. Pikmin 4 is already confirmed. Maybe Splatoon 2 considering how well it sold.

Pokemon Ranger 4 is finally coming!

OK I'm the only one on GAF who loves that series.

Intelligent Systems: A game that's not Advance Wars.

*sigh*

God damn it. Just discovered the series recently and I can't understand why they stopped making AW on 3DS.

Intelligent Systems: New Puzzle game to succeed Pullblox/Pushmo and Panel de Pon
Monolith Soft: Xenoblade Y, sequel to Xenoblade X, Xenoblade X NX port
Alphadream: New RPG IP
Camelot: New IP RPG, Mario Golf NX
HAL Labs: Some Kirby game that uses the NX interface in an innovative manner
Monster Games: An arcade racer, or maybe a port of some other game to NX
Tantalus: Remaster of some GC-era title

A lot of of the below is obviously pure guesswork. Not even sure about the structure of Nintendo's internal teams anymore.

EPD1: Mario Kart 9
EPD2: Animal Crossing
EPD3: Zelda BotW
EPD4: Pikmin 4 (NX launch title)
EPD5: New IP
EPD Tokyo 1: 3D Mario
EPD Tokyo 2: New IP
EPD Tokyo 3: Capitan Todd
NST: New IP
Retro: New IP
Monolith Soft: Zelda BotW, next RPG (Xenoblade, surely)
Nd Cube: NX Party

NLG: Metroid Prime: Federation Force
HAL: Kirby
Intelligent Systems: Paper Mario: Color Splash
Game Freak: Pokémon S&M
DeNA: co-dev mobile game using flagship IP
Good Feel, Grezzo et. al.: StreetPass NX

Future: Spla2n is a given, but I think it's too early still. New IP will come out of Nintendo Garage for sure. Also, quite a few 3rd party co-dev projects.

Good idea, do you know a good link that has the list?

Don't really like the one you've used. Formatting's too messy, and many of the above have been absorbed and restructured. Compiled this one using Trago's post + further research. Also gives people an idea of studio's prior output, which is helpful in formulating predictions.
