I would sincerely hope any adult (or even young adult) that posts here would put themselves in-between a gun and a child if the situation called for it.
Why? I like living a lot and value my own life way more than some randoms.

I want to hear the reason why would someone would go to a elem school to hit a target...

This is beyond derranged...
Probably the target was a teacher. Plus, the news inpact is always huge when kids are involved.

Really sad about this. Hopefully this can end up as cleanly as possible now that fatalities have been confirmed.

If they were my kids yeah.

News live on the scene from stream:

1 Gunman is dead, possible rumor of 2nd gunman.

An adult was transported with gunshot wounds.

no reports of a child death.

How is there more than one? Seriously I can understand one nutjob but how do you convince someone else to go along with it? Takes one to know one I suppose =\

How many nut job shootings have happened this year? so obviously they are everywhere so it's not inconceivable to think one day they would partner up

remember columbine? wasn't that 2 teenagers?

I live about 15 minutes from Newtown and have worked with families and colleagues who live there. Absolutely terrible news. :(

I'm surprised no one has ventured in here with the Segal gif yet. Oh well, hopefully the only one dead is the shooter and everything is wrapped up nicely.

Threads like these aren't the place to question feelings, or to soapbox them...just because many of us here say we'd take a shot for someone, we don't expect others to do it. Probably makes sense to focus more the topic at hand and have discussions later.

Keeping up to speed on the story, and wishing well to those affected.

all good things
All the posts that basically just say 'Oh no the children!' imply that the adults don't matter. Anyways, I'll chalk it up to messages losing tone when posted on the internet. It doesn't really matter.

No, its not even like that.

Children are pretty much defenseless especially in a situation like this and at this age. If an adult wasn't there to try and lead them to safety or tell them what to do they would basically be target practice for a sick fuck like this.

So of course people will be extra worried about kids in a situatiuon like this but that doesn't mean no one cares about the adults.

I would attack the shooter before merely standing in front of a barrel. It offers little practical value.

yeah unconfirmed rumors are sounding like the principal was the target of an adult gunman. Gunman dead. 2 handguns recovered. Principal and two kids at Danbury hospital. No idea on their condition. And unknown on whether or not there is actually another gunman. (I'm gonna guess there isn't)

OK now they're saying a teacher and child were only critically wounded but not killed. I hope they fully recover and that the shooter accomplice gets caught and tortured in prison.

ANYONE who wants a gun can easily obtain one. ANYONE.

I do sometimes wonder what it will take for serious debate about gun control, and sadly I don't think an incident like this will change much either :[

Hope the kids (and everyone else caught up in this tragedy) are okay...watching the news now and they're talking about another shooter?

Some guy in camo pants who the police are holding and claimed "it wasn't me"

Sometimes, inhumane treatment is only the beginning of what someone deserves. I thought I would be more desensitized to hearing about this sort of thing, but I never get used to it.

Police escorted a man out of the woods wearing camo pants and have him in custody, the man turned to bystanders and said "it wasn't me" while walking by.

I don't understand this 'Oh no not the children! but who gives a shit about the teachers and support staff' mentality.

You sound ridiculously bitter. Children are considered helpless and among the most vulnerable members of society. It's not that no one care about the teachers and staff.

There's always a second gunman rumored, it seems. Rarely actually happens.
Reliable information is always scarce and the way modern media works doesn't help that. Remember all those terrorist attacks that turn out to be some lone nutjob? The news feeds itself until solid facts come out.

Knew it.

Goddamn it. Is not like I would like the target dead, but can they at least try to do it in non-populated areas? Much less a elem school?

CNN reports from a source that a parent saw police escorted a man out of the woods near the school. Wearing camo pants. The man told the parent that it wasn't him.

From 98Q local radio station Facebook page.

Danbury Police are looking for a PURPLE or MAROON VAN in connection with the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School. Armed passengers inside, one possibly in a nun's costume. We're hearing that van was heading towards Danbury. DO NOT APPROACH...CALL 911 ASAP.

Some of these kids are basically scarred for life.

No I really don't think so. The idea that one tragic event will scar someone for life is some Freudian bullshit notion that hasn't been supported by any real evidence.

These kids, with proper care and understanding, will be fine. They are not going to end up broken people like you seem to imply.
