It seems that 360 and PS3 were more even in terms of power compared to PS4/Xbone. I'm guessing multiplats will cater to the lowest again next gen? That is kinda depressing.

Play Multiplats on the PC.
Play Multiplats on the PC.
People have to buy the Xbone to make that a reality.
Just because the PS3's peak performance was superior, doesn't mean the 360 held it back. I think the same thing will be true this time.
Won't the difference be a lot bigger this time around? Especially because the PS4 will be easier to work with?Just because the PS3's peak performance was superior, doesn't mean the 360 held it back. I think the same thing will be true this time.
held back from what! Hypothetical 100 million production values?
Well they weren't by the Wii last gen so..
I normally do but some things I've always preferred on console like FIFA for instance. Also games like DS had more active community on PS3 compared to PC.
And why do people think that performance won't be utilized? It will. I've seen a couple of post on GAF since yesterday suggesting publishers will gimp a version to hit par, and there is really no reason to think that's the case, it has never been before. Skyrim doesn't break after twenty hours on 360, and FFXIII isn't SD on PS3.From what I gather, according to Molyneux, the XBone's specs will mean that there will be a noticeable, sizeable difference between the two machines in time. Much more than was the case in this past gen.
Nope. Different story this time around. Multiplats were more held back by the arcane nature of the PS3's architecture. Whereas this time the two consoles share a common architecture, which means scaling up should be easier. I mean, they are essentially just gaming PCs and we all know that PC games are generally pretty scalable.
I think it's extremely premature to pretend to know what development bottlenecks are going to be like, what next-gen development is going to be like. Theoretical specs, while obviously indicative of real-world results, don't match exactly. Observe how early PS3 multiplats sucked and later PS3 multiplats typically didn't. We also don't know which engines are going to be most popular next generation and what kind of work is being done behind the scenes to optimize those engines for each platform.
We do know that the processors are roughly the same, that the same amount of RAM is present (but how much is available to games is an open question on the PS4. We have an answer for the XBone but it's not clear if that'll remain the same through the life of the console or not), that the XB uses a different slower sort of RAM but also has architecture devoted to moving stuff into a faster RAM, and that the XB's GPU is weaker. We know that both are capable of cloud computing stuff, but we have no details about either. Still a little early days yet. I'd feel comfortable saying that the XBone appears to be the weaker console of the two, but not to try to predict how that will manifest in actual development.
Every time I see XBone I read it X-Bone

lawlXbone and Wii U will be keeping the PS4 from reaching its true potential.

No, this Fall PS4 is going to be roughly equivalent to a low- to mid-end PC.I get people who can only afford a PS4.
Not so much those who plan on maintain a mid-tier+ gaming PC and a PS4.
2 years from now they're going to be the same thing.
