I mean, can South Korea just declare them reunited? Does it work like that?

To be fair, I have no idea what's going to happen in North Korea over the next 10-20 years. I think it's possible the military will overthrow or push Kim Jong-il's son into a ceremonial position. My guess is NK will either stay the same, or there will be cautious, slow economic reform while those in charge relinquish as little dictatorial power as possible in the process.

Unification has seemed like a financially and socially unfeasible idea to me for awhile now, and I really appreciate the South Koreans' committal to reunification despite that.

It shows they really care about their people up North. =')

Eventually the entire world should unify. Nations are starting to seem more and more ridiculous.

Maybe he just watched a lot of MASH? That pretty much consistently preached the North Koreans were the "good" guys.

Then again, look at Viet Nam. After about 10 years of communism, the rulers quietly ditched it in favor of something akin to China's system.
