they never said it was for console I think, case closed?
As reported here earlier today, Square Enix is working on an original action RPG project that makes use of the Unreal Engine. A few additional bits have surfaced from Famitsu's reveal feature.

The new game is being developed internally at Square Enix under the eye of Ryutaro Ichimura. Ichimura's exact role on the game is unclear, but he's usually a producer.

While the game goes unnamed in the magazine, it will not be a Dragon Quest or Final Fantasy game.

In comments shared with Famitsu, Ichimura reveals that he and the game's staff traveled the world for the past two years and conducted user surveys to research art and gameplay direction for the game. They've finalized the basics.

Square Enix Announces New Game Fro iOS Services: Bloodmasque

Square Enix today announced that its new vampire-hunting action RPG mobile game, Bloodmasque, will be available this summer on all iOS devices. To further enhance the eerie atmosphere of Bloodmasque, players can use their photos - headshots - when customizing their characters, allowing them to face the vampire threat head on.

Bloodmasque is powered by Unreal Technology, and the accompanying trailer demonstrates the game’s interactive character customization technology and gameplay footage.

In Bloodmasque, players take the role of hunters in vampire-ruled Paris during the late 19th century. As the dark night looms for mankind, hunters must fight the vampires’ insidious oppression and thwart their dark designs.

Bloodmasque allows players to snap a picture of themselves or use existing photos with their devices’ front-facing camera. The photos are then stylized to naturally fit the aesthetics of the game. As players prepare for battle, Bloodmasque allows them to optimize their party by choosing available characters that have been created by others. Together, they can unite to defeat the onslaught of the vampires.

I find the whole putting yourself in the game thing a little odd, but I think it looks pretty good for a mobile game. I do hope the battle system is more than swiping around with your finger like Infinity Blade though.

From what I know... the console versions were in development along side this iOS one. The former has been since canned due to Square Enix restructuring.

You may remember that once upon a time, Square Enix announced this game:

Well, this project is now finally upon us!

From Ryutaro Ichimura, on Unreal Engine 3, I present BLOODMASQUE.

First, note how this is the same owl:

Second, feel disappointment.

I really hope all these iOS endeavors flop so SE gets their head back on straight... but I'm not holding out hope.

Not like this.

Not like this.

I was so hyped for this title and it turns out to be a lame iOS title? I thought what's with them teasing it so early that it would be a big console game one day.

Wow that looks horrible. Glad it's for ios which makes it easier to ignore. Also to take a random jab at Square, TWEWY was a massive disappointment when I finally played it on the DS.

To be honest, the game looks pretty cool (despite the hilarious face capture). Unfortunately I do not own any iOS devices :[

Also it looks a lot better in motion lol.

So is that the beginning of their awesome plan to conquer the west with portable gaming ?

I can't see this fail at all.

To be fair, they keep experimenting with original mobile content, and each time going a bit further than the last.

But yeah, this looks like gussied up last-gen at best, and will probably be painfully overpriced.
