Stellar Blade was a smaller game before Shuhei Yoshida played the early prototype and had PlayStation partner with Shift Up (Developer Interview)

The interview was conducted in French with both the technical director and creative director of the game

Translation via the purple forum:
  • He says Shuhei Yoshida approached them in 2021 and after seeing the prototype they agreed on a contract
  • Sony provided full localization support, marketing, full QA testing and tool sharing from other Sony studios.
  • Game was inspired by 90s anime
  • The game's scope was supposed to be really small before the Sony partnership
  • Start of the game is linear when you reach the City Xion the game opens up it will be the starting point of the narrative of the game
  • 60% of the game is full on action, 40% is reserved to the story and narrative aspects
  • Game has more than 20 boss fights from humanoid boss fights, to Shadow of Colossus-like boss fights
  • 30 outfits, accessories like glasses, multiple haircuts, none of them will change the gameplay.

I can really feel the '90s anime vibe in big parts from the footage.

It probably won't be in there, but considering the uhm "works of culture" on display, any outfits inspired by Burn-Up W or Burn-Up Excess would be neat.

And there will still be people trying to convince everyone that it's not a first-party title, but another FFVII Rebirth situation.

Well even there didn't Sony help with funding and some technological assistance to S-E on Rebirth?

In any case, it is very cool to see how the game was elevated thanks to Shu & SIE's involvement.

The only man still at Playstation that knows and continues Playstation's heritage.... It's so bad his role was reduced in favour of hacks like Hermen Hulst....

Shu is a treasure! ❤️

Maybe it was Shu's idea to focus on something different, either way it's great to see he's still passionate about it. Herman Hulst is no substitute, can't stand that guy.

God forbid they put somebody at the helm that actually cares about games at all. They only want bean counters as CEOs now.
The incoming interim CEO is probably peak bean counter a human can get. Just look at his resume.

What's worse is this guy might have a say in who gets put in charge of SIE 🤮

Guys like totoki should be kept away from SIE with a flamethrower.
