Whooo that scan post below Bish....Poor lad! he never knew what hit him!

Looked at the shots and feeling the Jet Set Radio Vibe meets Crackdown, happy they have kept the palette and style from the reveal.

So getting excited about this game are we getting a Trailer Today?

From the reddit thread.

EDIT 3: Some quotes, courtesy of u/dodmaster
"Sunset Overdrive mixes platforming and shooting throughout, and places equal weight on both skills"
"We wanted to take the shooter genre away from cowering behind cover. You'll be rewarded for jumping over that cover and taking the fight to the enemy"
And its this that makes Sunset Overdrive feel new. If a trend is emerging at all from the new console generation, it's that wall running is the new cover, and attack is the new defence. We've spent the best part of a decade lurking behind bullet-chipped masonry. For Insomniac, it's time to come out into the sun.

The island’s boss is a Fizzco balloon named Fizzle. The fight is “On rails” in the sense that the rails are coild wrapped around the tower you can grind on.
The player can ride the city’s telephone cables from above or below, changing with a tap of X to avoid low bridges or enemy fire.

I hope these on rails parts are only a small fraction of the game.

By the way, I've been playing Naruto: Rise of a Ninja for the past few days, and Sunset Overdrive's sun-drenched city gives me some of the same vibes. It's a surprisingly fun game, gorgeously colorful, and zipping along all the wires feels fantastic. I wholeheartedly recommend it if you need your platforming fix now.

That Fizzie fight reminds me of

AXKsJuD.jpg

Yeah this game very much gives me Naruto x Ratchet & Clank vibes.

Looking forward to finally seeing some footage!!!

A 60fps open world game on console? Son, your setting yourself up for disappointment.

It could very well be targeting 60fps since the art style is very stylistic, they can get away with using some tricks to hit a high framerate without looking ugly.

between this and quantum break it looks like xbox one is the more compelling console this fall for sure.

i wonder what sony has to show because the order looks kinda dull.

I love the kind of colorful artstyle they've shown thus far, so I'm hyped! Hope we'll see more footage at E3 too.

And I hope they're not as a monotonous as Infinite's "rail" sections. Reading that passage though, I'm bracing for the worst.

I haven't gotten around to Infinite yet. First person grinding sounds like it would be disorienting! I think this is a different kind of a game, though, at least from what little info I've read. Sunset sounds like it may be an open world, third person shooter/platformer.

12 page spread, I imagine someone else will post details before I read it this morning. If not I will post some infos.

The monsters actually look a lot cooler in game, they have a bit of variation and a nice waxy shader. And no doubt they'll be really nicely animated. I did think they looked a little on the bland side in the cover.

If I ever post something in Japanese which I don't understand, please BAN me.
Whooo that scan post below Bish....Poor lad! he never knew what hit him!

Yeah, i feel kinda bad for him. So many people made this mistake already on GAF and were lucky to still be alive. I mean he edited his post and apologized, oh well hope that wasn't a perma :/ but since bish was in this thread and he was a Junior ...yeah doesn't look to good.

OT: The game looks pretty cool, i like how colorful it is but i wanna see it in motion, Trailer please!

the game brings to mind Tony Hawk, Jet Set Radio, Crazy Taxi, Prince Of Persia and the blue skies and bright colours of the Dreamcast era.

Oh wow, sounds right up my alley. That's exactly the kind of concoction that will rope me in to buying a console.

Shame Insomniac have been on such a downward trajectory the past few years now though. Their recent track record does get in the way of the hype.

Insomniac must really have a lot banking on this game as a studio. The FUSE flop and resistance MEH-ness seem to have muddled people's perception of what really is an awesome studio. Hope this lives up to the hype. But also wish it wasn't exclusive :(

Yeah, especially because it's 3rd person, hopefully it's not automatic and invovles a bit of skill.

Yeah, that will be interesting to find out. I usually find insomniac games quite forgiving and straight forward mechanically. Platforming and traversal in Ratchet games is generally pretty basic.

I didn't see this news on that thread : http://www.dualshockers.com/2014/05...-on-gameplay-design-franchise-plans-and-more/

Here’s a summary for your perusal:

According to Insomniac they’ve finally begun to understand what they love the most, and that reflects in the tone of the game.
Sunset Overdrive mixes platforming and shooting, and places equal weight on both skills
Insomniac has never made guns this powerful. You can take out five enemies with one shot.
The guns in the game play completely different from each other.
You’ll have to accumulate “style” before you fight some of the harder bosses. Some bosses won’t even notice you’re shooting at them if you’re at style level one or two.
Players are rewarded for playing fast and hard and not stopping. If you stop your style meter drops: “getting in there, mixing it up and mantaining that velocity is your aim.”
The island’s boss is a Fizzco balloon named Fizzle. The fight is “On rails,” but not in the way we usually think. The rails are coils wrapped around the tower you can grind on. Fizzle’s weak spots are spring-loaded drums above the city’s rooftops, and you’ll have to leap back and forth between them and the rails while avoiding fire and without ever stopping.
The player can ride the city’s telephone cables from above or below, changing with a tap of X to avoid low bridges or enemy fire.
Little Tokyo’s Japanese-inspired architecture involves lots of short wall runs and oddly angled buildings.
The world transforms at night, and so does the way the game plays. Sunset Overdrive promises to offer new ways to to deal with the night both alone and with friends.
In the last generation players have been trained to seek cover and wait combat out. Sunset Overdrive asks players “to think differently, use a different toolset and push forward.” Players are rewarded for jumping over the cover and take the initiative.
Attack is the new defense and wall running is the new cover.
Insomniac wants to create a different experience from the usual shooter that plays like Call of Duty.
Microsoft told Insomniac “We want Insomniac to be Insomniac” and allowed the developer to own the intellectual property, which is very important for the developer.
Insomniac wants to bring elements from games like Jet Set Radio and Tony Hawk to a more modern experience, adding depth, story and a campaign with a lot of unique ideas.
They’re trying to make a really great arcade game that is really fun to play regardless of how long you play.
For Insomniac the next generation is about “pop.” They want to see more “popping off the screen:” more colors, more effects, more things to see in the city.
Xbox One owners will be involved with the decisions that will shape the game post-release.
While you play you’ll see big screens broadcasting “Sunset TV,” an in-game TV channel discussing the current and future state of the game and offering players a way to vote on how it’ll change and evolve.
Insomniac feels that the first year or two of a new generation are when most risks are taken.
The developer is looking at Sunset Overdrive as the first of a series and want to build it into something bigger, “a real franchise.”
Everything was born from a lunch conversation a few years ago. It was never meant to be a real game at that time, but in the end they made it.

Insomniac must really have a lot banking on this game as a studio. The FUSE flop and resistance MEH-ness seem to have muddled people's perception of what really is an awesome studio. Hope this lives up to the hype. But also wish it wasn't exclusive :(

Well, just because the game flopped doesn't mean that they weren't getting paid by the respective publishers. Sure, they probably lost out on some bonus' based on sales but there was still a contract in place with a set budget that the publisher paid for their services.

Need to see video of this game so badly. It's looking and sounding so good from what info is already out there.

Sweet Jesus, those phone pics did the visuals literally zero justice.

It looks incredible. I'm stunned by how good it looks. The are style is also helping loads too, but goodness, the visuals are so damn beautiful

Fuck, if it looks as good in motion...
