The discourse surrounding Baldur's Gate 3 has been very frustrating to me.

Baldur's Gate 3 is a masterpiece of game design. You could probably play the game at least 10 times and have unique experiences each time. It has the best implementation of DND mechanics I've ever seen in a game. The story is great. The characters are great. It looks pretty decent. Yet the only thing the media keeps pushing is the sexual stuff.

Most of the articles since launch have been stuff like Kotaku's "I only play Baldur's Gate 3 for the Romance" or IGN's "Shadowheart reacts to IGN Reader's Horny Comments" or Polygon's "I'll Miss Gale being such a horny disaster man."

This is such a small part of the BG3 experience, yet it's been front and center ever since the bear fucking was revealed. So when I talk about the game with people who haven't played it, that's all they know about it. I kind of wish they hadn't implemented that stuff, since its distracting from everything else that makes the game great.

Well the developers themselves embrace it so there is no getting around it. The game has everything going for it including sexy characters. It's full of sexually charged dialogue and scenarios. Sex sells. Check out this worshipper of Loviatar(Goddess Of Pain) engaging in S&M with the player:

Most people are incredibly boring and simple, this is what will attract most people to the game, its sad but true.

Don't sweat over it. The game turned out one of the greatest of all time. Every new article is just advertising for it. I'm sure the devs don't mind to constant attention BG3 gets.

Your issue lies with giving Kotaku and Polygon your attention. Hell, sometimes even IGN. Spare yourself, and don't give their articles attention.

Also who cares what aspect of the game they are discussing if it can generate more positive attention and people trying it.

These dumb articles may have helped sell thousands of copies more, and allowed other people to fall in love with the whole package.

The way I see it, it doesn’t matter where the hype comes from as long as it helps the game sell and be successful.

Larian’s success is going to help turn-based games all over the world get bigger budgets from studios and will have dramatically positive impacts on the entire CRPG genre.

Horny journalists and arctophiles have been doing a pretty good job so far.

Wasn't bothered by any of it but it was definitely a little weird seeing all a lot of gaming sites pretend like the game was the horniest game in ages.

Eh I think certain circles like the ones you've mentioned feel the highest point in their lives is when they are fucking something and that's all they care about in all media.

Kind of casts a bad light on the game if the only thing they want to talk about Sex and who is having it. Vampire fucking a Bear is like not even 1% of the game.

The actual discourse of BG3 is how Act 3 was/is handled. Such a shame they won't discuss the few problems BG3 has. Which isn't many.

I personally don't pay much attention. But I've been talking about it with my DND group, for example. None of my players want to play it because all they hear is how weird the dating stuff is.

Same with my coworkers. My coworkers, which would normally be into games like BG3 act like I'm weird when talking about it.

I've not engaged really with any of the sexual stuff on purpose, but I did get goat roped into Shadowheart as my girl I guess, which is whatever. Still, kinda wish I could just say to the whole damn camp at once, "Hey, I'm straight, and more interested in the Illithid Secret Invasion than boning any of you nutjobs" The amount of times I've been hit on by a Gay Druid or Flamboyant Vampire just becomes annoying.

I do wish there was more "friendship" options. All the choices are either romantic or piss them off / disappoint them. I want to be best bros with Wyll, but the choices are either fuck him or hurt his feelings.

Yeah a lot of people just want a dating simulator. At least Japan straight up embraces it and doesn’t hide it in games.

It’s all some weird shit to me. Lol 😂

Exactly. Just want to be buds, I don't want to be a dick in the way I reject people I guess, but I'd rather just have a "Not romantically interested in anyone" kinda option right at the beginning. I just don't care about it. Maybe in a future playthrough for completionist sake, but I've enjoyed just soaking in the atmosphere and seeing how different the possibilties are and that's really what has my interest the most.

Seeing all these headlines about bear sex stuff does nothing for me, there's so much more interesting things with the game for that to be a focus just kinda shows how vapid people can become.

The same group of clowns on these sites don't want you "sexualizing women" though. Unless it's the big bitch from RE or animals. Degenerates.

Why do you care so much what other people think about the games you like? Imagine how much happier you would be if you didn’t.

If you didn’t notice nowadays you are judged and identify as by who you fuck. Kotaku knows their readers.

The sex scenes in the game are moderate and well placed in my opinion. If people write on the romance options, power to them I guess. I personally think that the game can be celebrated for everything it offers, including what some weirdos may get out of it. Besides that, there are other videos and articles detailing secrets and tricks that you are missing out on.

It’s so funny how in a game with full depictions of violence with severed limbs, decapitations, gore, blood, guts, and the ability to kill children… it’s being hit on by fictional characters and seeing some cock or tits that is making folks uncomfortable.

Gaming media are the pinnacle of stupid people and most of them are creeps anyway, remember when kotaku had child porn hentai on their site and was trying to peddle it as normal.

Game for the modern d&d 'Wizards of the woke', crirical role type crowd with lots of the cringe they love.

Combat seems ok and there are some redeeming features at least though, unlike that turd Starfield.

I don't know if Critical Role has done more harm than good for DND. On one hand, it's helped make DND more popular than ever, and it's a quality production.

But it definitely attracted a subset of people to DND that are driving Wizards towards making DND worse.

I had the same thoughts when I saw the popularity of the bear scene knowing the potential of the series due to DoS2.

Edit: i quickly realized after posting this is just the reality of the internet in general. Gaf founder just had a rant regarding the lack of digital titties at that club in Starfield.
