What's the third relationship?

diane - king, which is
basically king grooming the little diane into loving him

dunno how the fourth relationship works tho; merlin-the lion guy. it seemed normal-er? would not be surprised if it had some pedo-twist. I stopped reading around the time meolidas
grabed baby elizabeth and claimed it was his woman

Grooming? What? I think some people see what they want to see. King is the forever alone anime trope that can never reveal how he really feels. How can he "groom" someone when he can't even speak to Diane without stammering and getting red in the face for 600 years. Even if Diane falls in love with him, it's an anime\manga. Meaning that King would just lose his memories or something else stupid would happen to keep them apart.

So is this manga/anime good? Which is better
I randomly checked out a few manga chapters and I like the different character designs atleast

Wanted to ask this in some general manga/anime thread, but it'd probably get buried between discussions anyway and now this thread is here so

Don't know about the manga but I liked the anime a lot. Tightly paced, beautiful animation, fleshed out cast - just an overall great show to binge.

Haven't read the manga but anime is pretty good, past the bad start of course.

I mean, sure, death of the author and post modernism apply here too

the problem with interpreting the King-Diane relationship in any other way, is that the anime has very little credibility by the time it gets to this; Ban and King...I want to say sister? is already disgusting enough, and Meliodas / Elizabeth even at the start is a little suspicious, and gets worse and worse

so when you get to the backstory of King-Diane you know you are reading something that dabbles in relationships with minors, or people who mysteriously look like minors. it's hard to not see King raising the little Diane as anything but slightly disguised grooming; here the "people are older than they look" plays against the manga cause King is, at that point, several hundreds of years old, while Diane is a kid

if this was any other manga, I guess we could shrug it off as a weird relationship, but after Meliodas/Elizabeth and Ban/Elaine, it is obvious the manga is p much about old men consorting with very young girl for some reason

I've lost interest in the manga lately (first main arc was solid shonen) but this has some good potentional to turnout to be a fun Videogame. Wonder who's developing it.

I hope we get stuff like Fairy Tail and HxH get some console treatment soon aswell if this can get it. (I know back in the PSP days they got them, but i'd love something like a FT fighter or a CC2 style HxH game)

> Fighter

FT is made for a major RPG, come on. They have have built-in quest rankings.

is that as bad as that sounds, because that sounds really bad.

In context, all of this stuff is actually standard manga material and makes perfect sense, if you can believe that.

It may rub some people's sensitivities the wrong way even still, but in context i wold not consider it 'controversial'.

Diane is already
hundreds of years old at the point your referring to, since giants age differently to human beings, Elaine is a fairy, and they always are small

Was introduced to SDS by the Netflix anime coming out of nowhere. Good fucking shonen, and I can't wait for season 2.

Are people really arguing for Fairy tail of all things as 'good shounen'? Oh my goodness.

That fanservicy trash might as well be a porno with how hard Mashima leans on it as a crutch. Everything else is objectively significantly worse than his previous manga in Rave Master, which was an actual quality shounen series.

What you don't think
Manga spoilers for fairy tail
Ezra having all her senses wiped and still somehow defeating a powerful demon and the reason that was given was because and I quote "she's Ezra" or how about having your bones broken by one swipe from a dragon and still somehow jumping into the air to cut a powerful meteor in half
Quality stuff right there

Same here.

Main character sexually harasses girl over and over without soliciting a response. Hilarious! Top-notch comedy!

Probably the worst thing Netflix has acquired. I couldn't make it through the first episode. The fuck.

The epitome of Fairy Tail in a nutshell lmao

Come on now, lol.
Yeah, she was around 50 during King's Gaiden, but she was clearly drawn as a pre pubescent child. Elaine is somewhat defensible and is made a bit worse only because Ban also a monstrously tall dude, but Diane was a child.

For newcomers of NNT, if you have an issue with the first episode of NNT, your gonna have an issue with the whole series. if you don't have an issue with the first episode, its likely you won't have an issue with the rest of the series

Eh. The high bar in shonen for a ton of people is still Dragon Ball Z. We're working off a different scale than what we would for another genre.

And fwiw, I always thought Rave Master looked like ass and was impressed FT was fun at all. Yes, the part where Erza won a fight "just because" was absolute garbage, but overall I've enjoyed FT more times than not.

yeah, that's because she was young when she met king. But its obvious that is why they only have gotten together after she grew up. But he never wanted her to regain her memory because he felt like abandoning her was an unforgivable act.

.

DBZ is not a 'high bar' of objective quality, its just the most mainstream and popular series due to its history and draws for a large audience. That's like saying Naruto is a 'high bar' for quality writing, its popular but its not representative of the genre.

Shounen is not defined by mainstream stuff in shounen jump, as much as they would want you to believe so. FMA, Chrno Crusade, SnK, and the aforementioned Rave Master among other series prove that.

Read the manga. You'll see what i mean.

King is my favorite character, but it's made pretty clear that he harbored romantic feelings for her despite her age during his flashback. I understand that the actual intention of this romance is to show that King kept his promise to always love her when she asked, and I understand the themes of the other main romance sub plots in the series, but, at one point in time, or in Ban's case, 24/7, there is a clear underage vibe to the relationships. I doubt that is what the author intended, but it is there.

That... sound exactly like a scene from Saint Seiya

Yeah, i mean if your looking at it appearance wise. But Elaine is a fully functioning congizant fairy like King, who just reflects how fairy's actually are consistently drawn in the series.

As for Diane, yes King did fall in love during his hundreds of years time with Diane, but it was never really looked at as anything suspicious due to the whole "time is relative in non human species" thing.

Elizabeth and Meliodas is dicey, but he has never gone pedo on us when she was young or showed any attraction to her in that manner, he treated her like a legal guardian would, but the closeness they shared due to their history would come out regardless. Age in this series for Elizabeth and Meliodas with both of them being over 3000 years old really clouds over the whole issue.

Trust me, whatever scene your thinking of, its not as stupid or asspullish as Fairy Tail always is.

Well, it's not an asspull in SS since that arc built up that moment, but I was more surprised on the extreme similarity of that scene with Seiya vs. Saga*

*premise: I'm only familiar with the
epic italian dubbed
version of SS

I'm not familiar with Italian dubs, but i'm sure its way better than.....-sigh- 'Knights of the Zodiac' and the stupid ass random cover of "and i ran" for an opening. You'd have to see it to believe it.

The series likes to make references to folks appearances when it's convenient. King has been called a child several times in the series and he's older than Elaine. Mel's been referred to as a kid a couple times as well. But like I said, Elaine is mostly defensible and it's mainly the size contrast between her an Ban that make it stand out.

She was still a child. The series doesn't treat any of it's romances as suspicious.

I don't think it clouds over the whole issue personally, even with the recent revelation. That whole scene could have worked without Mel needing to call infant Elizabeth his woman. Have a scene with no dialogue of Mel just cradling the child when Bartras and Dreyfus find him. Gets the point across just as easily without making it weird.

And of course Mel didn't go full pedo, and neither does any of the romances for that manner, but it is just a weird thing in this series.

Watch Da Birdie

I buy cakes for myself on my birthday it's not weird lots of people do it I bet
Watched the first two episodes and thought they were pretty cool---but all these spoilers about awkward relationships are disturbing me a bit. :-<

It's been awhile but Kongou Bancho didn't have any of this, did it? Though then again that show barely had any romance and the cast was mainly fightin' men.

Not anywhere near as controversial as it sounds, if you read it in context

No disagreements, but i've been around the block with much 'worse' in regards to manga and anime so i guess for me at this point its fairly tame and 'normalized', i mean...when we have shoujou series like Sailor Moon and CardCaptor Sakura going way further with that sort of thing...it says something.

Regardless, NNT, even in the worst interpretations will never be as creepy as the werewolf dude in twilight 'claiming' the baby of the two main characters. That shit is....fanfiction levels of disgusting, which i guess makes sense considering the authors history as a fanfiction writer

If you liked the first two episodes you should like the whole anime.

Looks pretty solid.

I'd say Ban's Gaiden is where you should decide whether or not you want to bother.

Nah, not in that series.

Eh, not a good first impression for me. Mel's face looks like he's seen some shit...
which, ironically, is appropriate for the character.

lol brigining up the grope scene in this series. DB did things like that too with Master Roshi and Goku (naive kid though) with Bulma. Anyways the series itself is fun and very good at times.

Anyways hoping this game is decent, with Namco you'll never know if you'll get something decent or something that's mediocre. Those images look decent.
