Tight, compact, single player games?

That 'old man gamer' thread whet my appetite for some tight, 5-10 hour single player games. I'm coming off the back of a Cyberpunk 2077 playthrough and I'm halfway through FFX, so I could really use that change of pace.

I just tried Trepang2 over my lunch break, but it's too much of a wave/gauntlet shooter for my tastes and I don't like bullet sponge enemies.

Any old man gamer recommendations? Things you can knock out in a couple of evenings but are, ideally, replayable.

If played right, Trepang is a ballet of bullets. Get to the second level and you'll start to see how the combat is just fucking awesome!

Maybe give Robocop a go? Pure single player. Easy to put down and pick up. Without the side quests you can finish it in about 6-8 hours and its a blast!
Terminator Resistance is also a VERY good SP only shooter. And Bulletstorm!

Any CoD campaign from CoD 2 forward, really. Pretty much all of them I recommend playing except Black Ops 3.

CoD: Infinite Warfare
is an outstanding title in terms of the more recent CoD releases.

Medal of Honor 2010 and Warfighter. Great back to back campaigns that are around 6 hours each.

Journey and Abzu are nice relaxing stories that can be beat in one sitting. Journey is around 2 hours, no sure about Abzu.

Homefront 1 and Revolution. Both awesome. The first one is similar to CoD but Revolution is more of an open world/level design.

Alien Isolation is pretty compact though slightly longer than some of these recommendations.

The Order 1886 or Killzone: Shadowfall if you have a Playstation 4 or 5. Under 6 hours. Or any Uncharted game in the trilogy as well. Uncharted 4 is about 15 hours.

Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice

Oh yeah, Robocop looks good. Isn't the movement quite slow, though? I can imagine that being frustrating.

Dead Space Remake.
Re7, Re8
Devil may cry 5
Alan Wake 1 or 2
The modern Tomb Raiders
The uncharted game with the girls(the name escapes me right now)
Doom 2016

No it isnt. I was worried too. But basically you control a vertical tank. You can "sprint" if you want. But the slow pace just fits the game. And makes you feel like a stonecold badass by casually walking through a hail of bullets. It adds to the gameplay. :)

Oh and it's one of the prettiest games around, Making full use of UE5. Think Matrix demo quality, but full game AND with Robocop. This game oozes fanservice and atmosphere.

It has slo-mo, weapon upgrade system which is just fun, A LOT of effects like smoke, debris, plaster, wood flying around during gunfights.

If you need further convincing, see the OT. ;)

Console or PC?

PC side I'll recommend the Momodora games. Very enjoyable and gameplay focused. Good price even without sales.

And a new one coming in a couple days.

Thanks. Mainly console but I'm open to PC games too. I just have to play them during worktime... no way I'm sitting at this desk outside of office hours!

I played through Disco Elysium (PS5) as a palette cleanser from Cyberpunk (PC) - found it was a really good mix as I could chill with Disco Elysium

I bought Hades over the PS Christmas sale and I gotta say, that's some of the funnest shit i've played in a while. The core gameplay loop is tight, accessible, and fun.

Every call of duty game

Robocop Rouge City

Hi-Fi rush

Spider-Man Miles Morales

Every uncharted game, although 4 is a little bit longer

Might be strange, but Live a Live, while a classic JRPG, has extremely brisk pacing, and you can just play it, you don't really spend any time customizing characters or anything. you watch cutscenes, move through very short dungeons, fight bosses. no grinding required. COD campaign of JRPGs.

The Ratchet and Clank games if you own a PS4/PS5

Not sure if it's your cup of tea but If you want a very short, and simple journey, play JOURNEY, it's beautiful for the eyes and the ears, it's like a piece of art that you want to replay to feel again all the feelings the game brings to you. Put an headphone or/and put the kids in the locked basement meanwhile to fully immerse yourself.
