These vids were the best part of PSX imo. Everybody should watch all of them. You get a better understanding of how much work actually goes in to the artdirection and the creation of every single detail and why they make certain changes and decisions.

Indeed.. I was also very much surprised by how they do the stitches using shaders, instead of texture maps! It does make sense when you have the fabric detail also in shaders (which gives you nearly unlimited zoom without texture scaling artefacts) to have your overlay details such as stitches in shaders so there's not a visual discrepancy at different distances. I'm interested in how they map these out to the shader input but they don't talk about it.
