i didn't even say i didn't like it. i think the idea is cool and will definitely fly well with non-gamers.Campster said:HURR BECAUSE GAMES I DON'T LIKE AREN'T GAMES
I didn't like 2 Fast 2 Furious, but that doesn't mean it wasn't a film.

There you have it folks.mj1108 said:If they did that, then the Washington Post would be seen as a credible source.
GAF treats articles like they do reviews. The only ones that are credible are the ones they want to hear.
White Man said:Well, I hate to be a naysayer, but don't forbet that the promo pics showed the scale being used in pushups, too. I am sure they have found ways to work it into other exercises, too. As you said, though, I can't immediately see a way that this can be used for necessary aerobic exercise.

THEY WILL TAKE OVER!
sphinx said:yes, I saw that happen.
I wonder what will happen with the next 3 or 4 articles (businessweek.com, money.cnn, nextgen-biz, etc..) that arrive here on GAF. Pretty much every thread is guaranteed to go the way of the forbes one and all of them are also guaranteed to declare nintendo a winner and sony/ms the sore losers, an atrocity in most gaffers eyes.
Truth be told, mainstream casuals also PLAY more games than GAFFers do.BrandNew said:And GAF leads itself further into isolation. We aren't FACT people, we're ****ing elitist gamers who pick apart everything. And we enjoy it.

but comparing wii fit to something like unreal tournament is just retarded.
wii is creating a new market. they are not competing directly in the games market. the different markets should be covered seperately, and differently.
i even support the non-game craze for a variety of reasons.

capslock said:This gulf between the specialist and the mainstream press towards Nintendo, with the former more critical and the latter basically lavishing praise on just about every endeavour is not the first time this has happened. Something very similar happened with Apple, where a niche company with quirky designs and long history of a cult following finally broke through with a product with massive mainstream appeal: The iPod. And consequently captured the mindshare of both the public as well the mainstream press.
capslock said:Now Nintendo has done the same with Wii (and to a lesser extent, at least for media appeal) with the DS. What you're seeing now is the development of the same blinders that the mainstream press has for Apple only now it's starting for Nintendo. And this is what should be worrying Sony and Microsoft more than anything. Nintendo sucking up all the press coverage with their upteenth mini-games collection or WiiBreathe means less attention for the hardcore offerings of the other two. And if they try to copy Nintendo they will just get laughed at like the Zune (which is actually a pretty good product).

Man speaketh the truth,
I think whats ruffleing everyones feathers is this;
"Hey Nintendo! WTF?!?!? I'm the hardcore gamer here! Why are you showing a bathroom scale for fat people????"
The hardcore dont like bieng sidelined, or *gasp* ignored.
Hurts when you find out your not the center of the universe, and not even the center of your favorite hobbies universe.
Yeah, this is why the "median age of gamers" statistic tossed around is so old (in the mid-thirties). Because for every twenty year old college kid playing Halo there's a fifty year old housewife playing PopCap games.B-Rad Lascelle said:Truth be told, mainstream casuals also PLAY more games than GAFFers do.
Surprise, surprise.

Shawn Elliot may have been joking but he was absolutly right, Nintendo is taking a shit on all of you and you guys are eating it like its a delicacy.
See, people accuse Nintendo fans of taking shit too seriously. This post is comedy.captive said:How the F*CK are people actually defending nintendo? Seriously?

I don't even want to talk about that crap wheel they displayed. It doesn't exist for me. I don't see how that appeals to anyone casual or hardcore.QVT said:The wheel was too small. The board was a bit bigger than my bathroom scale, but obviously too small for most people(wearing a size 14 i have no doubt i'll hang over it like a mofo, much as reggie did).

When journalism fails to do its research.Sony, which previously held events that featured such concert acts as Macy Gray and Beck, settled for a low-key sushi shindig this year.
Reggie Fils-Aime, president of Nintendo of America, said the bigger question was how to get the non-gamers of the world interested in Nintendo systems.
I know what you're getting at. Wii Sports didn't help my bowling, baseball, tennis, or golf swing for jack in real life. But it was very gently implied that it could, with the whole training single-player mode. They're walking a bit more of a fine line with Wii Fit.drohne said:i still think wii fit has an essential problem to overcome: wiggling and waggling on a bathroom scale doesn't look like much exercise. i've really worked on getting back in shape this year, it's taken lots of running on treadmills and lifting weights, and progress has nonetheless been gradual. it's one thing to pass off crap as entertainment -- nintendo have demonstrated their expertise there -- and it's another thing to pass off crap as a means to improve your health and appearance.
