The mismatch can come from full production vs production line tests. Foxconn needs to try out and optimize the production sequenze and this is usually some half an year prior to a major launch. Then based on that you do tests with mass produced units (tumble, scratch, radiation, wear) and adjust accordingly on your road to final production sign off version. As components get signed off you can begin stockpiling long leadtime sub assys that have been signed off.

So most likely Nintendo has been doing their dry runs in Late Q3 early Q4 and then began to produce some sub assys in mid Q4 and commenced final production in late Dec or early Jan - which is still remarkably early - but Nintendo can afford the money tiedmin stock of course.

Did the N64 launch in September? That seems like a good month, since it's in advance of the holidays, giving them time to keep manufacturing units, and a bit after E3, which allows everyone to preorder on the tidal wave of hype it will create. But yeah, all baseless speculation. All we know is it's slated to come out some time after April 2012.

I honestly think that since they launched the 3DS at 249.99 and their stance on not losing money on each unit would make me think that the Cafe/Stream will be no lower than 349.99. I will be shocked if its 300.

3DS only launched at $250 because of how excited everyone was at E3. They could have easily released it for $200. This E3 everyone is going to have their best poker faces on and the Stream will be so disliked it'll be $99.
