I've finished the demo and it was great !
I have the game on ps5 since release but only launched it up for 15 minutes to check it out and put in que since there was ac6 and stuff coming out. Then they started patching it so I waited.

just for the kick of it, I played the demo on pc. runs about 40-70fps dlss performance (4k output) and ultra everything. Looks great. Performance feels a bit wonky. It's stuttery and doesn't feel as smooth as fps would suggest. but it played fine.
Shooting is hexen, doom eternal and it's good. Kinda feels like a classic xbox 360 gen game in a good way. The combat is not as free flowing like forspoken or hogwarts (magic game comparison). It's more like doom.
Graphics seem VERY busy at time. I can see it getting tiring on the eyes. Anyone checked out ps5 version after patches? is performance better now?
I kinda don't want to buy it again on pc and then deal with stuttering.

Im on PS5 and it runs better than it did but it still isnt butter smooth 100% of the time. Its MUCH better though. And the visuals have been tightened up a bit.

You're right about it feeling like something that wouldve felt right at home during the 7th gen.

And things get hectic kinda quick. It's alot like newer Doom in that you're managing powers/slkills near constantly and have to be on the ball 99% of the time. Lots of combat multitasking but its fun and can get tricky. Certain enemies can wreck you quick. Also one of the first games Ive played on the highest difficulty in a long time. Very satisfying.

I considered buying this a few times; now that people have had time to digest it, is it worth getting and putting time into if I get it at a decent discount?

I tried and refunded this on steam. I couldn’t find a setting on my 3080 to make the game look good and run well.

Even when I pushed it to the max at low fps the starting area didn’t scream “next gen” or “wow” factor.

If this goes on deep discount on ps5 I’ll just run through it on that and ignore the visual fidelity aspect and just enjoy the haptic addition for gameplay.

I mean I know nothing about your taste, but I think it is absolutely worth getting especially if its on sale

Strange. I played it on 3080 too and it didn't run too badly. Just go to performance mode with dlss.
I think it will stutter no matter what. Unreal engine

There is a ps5 demo? I might check it out. I heard its 50% off too from tomorrow

Not 100% on a PS5 demo, but this could definitely be in your wheelhouse since you like some out of the ordinary stuff. I say give it a shot if its really 50% off.

Edit: Luipadre Luipadre there is a PS5 demo. The first three chapters and it saves your progress to carry over to the full game

Any updates on the developer saying they'll bring FSR3 to the console versions?

Oh damn, there's a 3 chapter demo that carries progress? Pretty generous of them. I heard this is a very short game as it is.

The way the game didn't exactly do much tells me this should be coming to EA Play / Game Pass in a month or two anyway.

It’s a nice hot intro chunk concluding with a decent boss fight. The demo shows you the ropes nicely 👌🏼 and then cuts off as soon as everything opens up and becomes Metroid

Edit: And it isn’t short

Played the demo until I unlocked the first achievement. It comes off as very low rent.

I agree. I played into chapter 3 a little bit and it was very mediocre. Art style and world design, characters, dialogue, controller feel - all were very low quality. A shame because I would like to have another 3D metroid style game to enjoy.

Hmm, so I downloaded the trial version for XSX. I thought it was meant to be a 60fps game but I feels more like 30. The good news is that it doesn't look as blurry as imagined it to be considering the resolution it runs on.

Motion resolution in the demo at least, is the worst I've ever seen. The moment you move the camera, the lack of motion blur makes everything a fkn mess...
And performance even at 1440p, on a 7900XTX is not great. Sad...

Played the PS5 version for an hour. Image quality looks surprisingly good outside of combat, expected worst, but as soon as the combat starts the visuals goes to shit. Its FSR artifact hell, looks like im playing this over cloud gaming with shit wifi and the framerate even outside of combat is almost never 60. It jittery, stuttery and just feels bad to play. A locked 30 would be better for this than this stuttery mess. FOV is pretty narrow too. Id probably play this with wider FOV and locked 60, but the fps is so all over the place its just feels bad to play

I suspect people play the demo looking for a reason to not play this game. I mean, if you haven’t played it by now, would you ever? When you actually sit down and plan to just play, the game is enjoyable.

They should have used TSR instead of FSR and allowed 30/40 modes. 40fps with TSR would have been smooth enough and will look far better on consoles.

What's the point in having all these cool graphical effects when it tanks the image quality. Every UE5 game this gen has been a grainy mess, makes the game look worse than some last gen games. Ray Tracing was a mistake this gen.

Game is ok.

Too many cutscenes though. Just let me shoot stuff. Can’t be arsed with some shitty story.

Tried this on PS Plus, is the audio supposed to be dogshit whenever a character is off screen?

The worst audio I've encountered in a while.

I played for about an hour. The storytelling is good, but the universe and plot just couldn't draw me in. The unskippable cutscenes and that awful gameplay where we have to walk behind a character narrating the story with pressing 'W' are also present here (45 minutes of the 1-hour gameplay was spent on these). However, the gameplay shows promise, and the graphics are better than I expected(even with low settings at 1440p). If I can overlook a few SJW elements and the hip-hop-like music that doesn't fit the universe at all, I think I'll play a bit more. I thought I'd be annoyed by the main character, but so far, he is the only likeable character in this game.

I'm curious why you are trying to skip cutscenes the first time you are playing the game?

It's been a while since I played. Isn't the first hour or so just you walking around the town? I can't remember exactly. The game doesn't actually start until... well, if you know you know.

If it's not a critically acclaimed game that I really want to play, I prefer to see how it's played first. That way, I don't waste an hour learning the story of a game whose gameplay I don't enjoy. Gameplay comes first for me so that's the main reason. Imagine watching a one-hour cutscene for 'The Day Before'.

Gonna try this again next weekend both on ps5 and pc to see which fairs better.

Game had so many updates. I tried it on both but if I recall ps5 version was blurry AF, and pc ran like shit for a game that looked very mid. Never got further than the end of the intro town lol

Wild how all over the place opinions on this game are. Added to the backlog.

Now that it's available on convenient services, I'd say why not give it a shot.

But at launch, at full price, I would not have recommend this to many people. I had an active on-going gamefly sub at that time so I used that to play it. Felt kinda disappointed by the end, but that's just one person's opinion.

i had bought it for about 30 bucks thinking it would be at least playable. I found the combat so bad i couldnt bring myself to play 2 levels. the powers felt so dumb

My perspective is that it depends on how you feel going in. I saw a few minutes of a video review and it looked like Doom with magic, so, I bought it blindly and thought it was one of the more fun experiences I have had this generation. I’d play it again, even. I bought it on sale, but would not have regretted paying full price.

Many people are going in already thinking is it bad, just testing to see what it’s like, or in some way not actually committing to playing the game. If you buy the game and play it with the intent of actually playing it, you will discover a fun experience. If you play for free via PSN, game pass, steam refund and are looking for a reason to not play it, that is exactly what you will find.

I sometimes wonder if buying physical discs allows me to enjoy games more. I can buy a game, fully committed to playing it, and if it is truly bad, I can sell it. I can also enjoy games that are worth the time to play, but maybe not the money (as I can recover my costs). Digital gamers have no recourse, so have to be extremely critical of every game. This might be one cause of why so many people seem to seek reasons to hate games. It’s easier to say a game is bad than to decide if it’s worth buying.

As a PS+ freebie I played through the game to the end. It was a total slog. Decent lore ruined by overall horrible dialog, unlikable nonsensical allies and villains, and plot filled with complete stupidity. The combat is serviceable, but feels like they thought about doing it as a lootbox shooter GaaS and changed their mind late in development or something. The whole upgrade system feels nearly pointless, and weapon\armor upgrades are sparse, and largely unnecessary.

The majority of the "puzzles" are more of a puzzling out how they developed such shit tier controls to use with speed based door unlocks.

It isn't even a graphical powerhouse IMHO. There's better looking games running on less. The character models armor, and clothing look good, but the faces feel really off, and a few of them downright ugly.

10 seconds after the credits finished and I was presented with the post-game "Now you can go get collectibles and fight the six HP sponge extra bosses!" I was back at the PS menu and uninstalling.

1/5 - don't waste your time

Man, the more I play of this the less I'm enjoying it. It seemed like a bit of a hidden gem for the first 5-6 hours, but I'm about 12 hours in and I'm only on like Chapter 10 (looks like there's 18 chapters total?). The game is feeling like a slog at this point.

The core gameplay is fun. The concept of using your three magical abilities to take on specific enemy types and to reflect whichever playstyle you prefer is a solid one. Visually, the game is a bit hit-or-miss, but is quite pretty overall.

The story, though, is a convoluted mess, the dialogue is awful more often than not, and the pacing/mission structure becomes so tiresome and grating. I feel like I've been on Chapter 10 for ages. It just never freaking ends.

Trying to push through, but I think I might be done.
