Kay plays Dark Souls II: the anti-Jeff Green

Sad to hear she's thinking about Fallout 3/NV next. That could take a LOOOOONG time to get through.

Glad to hear that she'll probably do a Demon's Souls LP at some point though. I can wait. :)

I was just thinking, Dragon's Dogma would be the perfect game for her. She runs around picking up every "treasure" just like the pawns do. :D

I'm thinking she should play Divinity: Original Sin, even if she doesn't make videos out of it. But yeah, Demon's Souls is the next logical step if she can get all the stuff to record it.
An exquisite suggestion my friend.

Great LP. One of the few cases where I'm interested to find out an LP's next game.

the truth? kay could choose pong as her next game, & i'd be in :) ...

i'd like to see what she'd make of persona 3/4. or catherine. or maybe bayonetta :) ...

I suggested Riven. Very much up her alley in terms of a deep game world that requires close inspection and thoughtful interpretation.

Eh, Vendrick is easy as piss and AD is just a boring and tedious fight, I'm sastified with that Darklurker fight.

I have to imagine there will be a video tying up all the lose ends possible pre-NG+. Because why wouldn't you?

Because it felt like she really was not enjoying the game near the end, and felt happy to break away

...that's why I feel Demon's Souls straight away is a bad idea. Even if it is a better game than DSII, I think she was getting dangerously close to getting burned out on the Souls formula

Kay has a boyfriend? Is it weird I thought she was married with kids? I could have sworn she said she had kids. Oh well, she better play fallout.

I'd like her to continue with FEZ. The game puts more emphasis on exploration and puzzle solving as opposed to the platforming she doesn't enjoy so much, which is pretty simple anyway and not very challenging IIRC, particularly because there's little penalty for failure so I think she'll get the hang of it soon if she sticks with it. She seems to really be into the deciphering aspect the game is full of. I'm amazed at how quick shes figuring stuff out already

I dropped Fez after less than an hour of play myself, didn't enjoy it at all.
So i don't know if i'm going to follow this one, but it was the better choice, given the general consensus and type of game.

Still gonna hold my Silent Hill banner high tho, maybe next time! :(
Just saw her answer to my comment suggesting Silent Hill, if she doesn't respond well to horrors, yeah, it's best to avoid the series then.

I'm a bit sad because i personally love Silent Hill, but i understand her position.

Ew Fez :(

Still need to finish watching her go through dark souls 2. Had too many other things to watch/play lately. Luckily we still have Jeff who will finish dark souls 2 in about....a year.. or 2..

Fez is ok. I think she would like it, but i have to wonder if she is specifically looking for games with overarching elements that she must puzzle through on her own. There must be other stuff she wants to play as well.

OMG WHAT THE HECK. Already on that alphabet.

Jesus Christ on a bike at the sipher bit.

I would love her to keep going on with this one blind, as it took the whole internet banging its head together on message boards to try and figure out the game back at launch. Seeing one person try to crack the mysteries would be great.

But I fear she will not adapt to platforming.- she said she is already having problems it in the description. Although, she had trouble when she first started Dark Souls though, so maybe she will learn here too, or at least learn to like it!

I think if she gets deep enough in, she might get intrigued enough to just keep going.

Here hoping, as it is basically the perfect game (par the platforming) for her analytic style of play.

Fez, Fallout, Dragon dogma are games i quit after beginning.

What i like to see:
Valiant Hearts: The Great War
Remember Me
Alan Wake
Deus Ex: Human Revolution
Dragon Age series

Fez is hugely overrated,
only those heart cubes are any kind of challenge, and one is so obscene I don't believe anyone would ever figure it out.

EDIT: Oh, she reads this thread, sorry if you caught that Kay.

I've only played an hour of Fez and it didn't even occur to me to try and decipher that stuff. Thought it was just meant to be gibberish. I so dumb.

I don't think she routinely reads this thread, though i think she mentioned GAF once.

She mentioned it in today's episode.

Speaking of which, I've finished it.

She's basically already completely solved the game, the numbers and cheat code input symbols are much easier to solve. Fez is already kind of a front loaded experience, but if you've cracked the alphabet after the first half hour, it's going to be a strange Let's Play.

wth is that what Fez is?! It's like a puzzle magazine you buy at bookstores. Kay's master class for decoding ciphers was cool though.

I was hoping the tresure chest would be mimic.

Of course Kay is an expert cracker of ciphers. Damn good episode, the ending was amazing.

I hope she finds a new game eventually that really captures her attention like DS1 did.

If you're saying the game is overrated because of the difficulty (or lack thereof): it's not just the difficulty level of the puzzle portions of the game that make it a good experience, it's how the other well-designed portions of the game and the puzzle portions are integrated so well together into an interesting and unique package. This is why people sometimes go ga-ga over it - myself included.

If you're saying the difficulty of the game is overrated: for someone who has a mind for seeing those patterns and maybe excels at code-breaking or analytics, then sure, maybe so. However, other people don't even notice the codes (see: above posters).

how is she in the gaming scene enough to be streaming both darksouls on twitch and read neogaf but not know anything about fez?

zelda ref in first few seconds?!

some people play games without reading all about them i suppose.

She doesn't steam on Twitch, she just records gameplay locally, edits it, and uploads it to Youtube. She doesn't seem to keep up with (relatively) current gaming news, but seems to have spotty gaming knowledge like the Zelda reference, likely from her boyfriend.

I mean both.

It's a puzzle game, and it's basically not at all puzzling. It feels like busy work the vast majority of the time. You solve a certain puzzle, for example, the tuning forks, then you just go around the world 'solving' every instance of it. Outside of the
heart bits
, there are like five or six actual puzzles in the game, and they're just repeated endlessly.

ah yes just yt.
seems strange to me to be putting yourself out there without also consuming what's out there too if you know what i mean. To miss fez seems crazy what with all the drama/praise.
anyway she's so much better at games than me its sickening i hope she keeps going.

Legend Of Grimrock might make for fun times. Antichamber too. I think I find Detective Kay more fun than Sensei Kay. Which isn't to say that watching Kay make short work of challenging combat isn't enjoyable, just that skilled fighting personalities are ten-a-penny on the Internet TV. Kay's insightful and observant putting together of pieces - and how she elucidates the process - is far more rare.

I wouldn't classify it as a straight-up puzzle game though, but instead as an adventure game with platforming and puzzle elements since, again, it's not just about solving the puzzles and that being that. You solve a puzzle somewhere, then continue exploring the world applying your solution in other places that have their own unique styles and challenges. I'm certainly not saying that it's going to be fun or engaging for everyone, but there's certainly more to appreciate there than just the puzzles.

Strange suggestions, at least on Youtube. People really want to watch her play a linear shooter like Half-Life or Bioshock, or a loot whore RPG like Borderlands? I like these games
except Borderlands
, but I guess I watch for a different reason than some other people do. I like the way she analyzes the world, discovers things on her own, and talks about her theories. While I don't like playing Fez, at least it has that going on behind all the platforming, whereas a lot of the other games people suggest have none of it.

Something that requires or encourages brainpower would be preferable to me. Deus Ex is good. Divinity: Original Sin I think would be good. Legend of Grimrock would be very interesting. Antichamber could be fun for a bit
until it turns into solve the block puzzles.

She thought the Alonne Captain armor looked like Samus, and refers to enemies in DS as "mobs", so I'm guessing she has some gaming experience.

Watched most of the playthrough, enjoyed it. Prefer this kind of LP where they're sharing their thoughts on encounters, lore etc instead of being obnoxious and "funny". (Though I did think the Stanley Parable spoof was pretty creative!)

I finally figured it out. Kay is with the CIA. She's a forensic analyst and thats why she's so detail oriented and why she likes topology. I fucking knew she was a government agent. FUck me, I'm so fucking screwed I fucking watched her videos and now I'm being watched by her buddies in the CIA.

No, she has to be a gamer, or just very perceptive. She said she was more into RPGs, and JRPGs before. She's played silent hills before. She was god-tier at Dark Souls 1/2.

I'm a hardcore gamer, but, never heard of Fez.

Kay said:
Ciphers have been a hobby of mine for a long time. I've spent countless hours poring over ciphers such as Zodiac 340, Dorabella, the fourth Kryptos, and the first and third Beale ciphers (though these are thought to be a hoax).

Lol geez had we known that crypograpghy and cyphers were her hobby I don't know if I would have recommended Fez. Then again i probably would since its a lot of crypograms. I'm eager to see how she does. I think she'll love it and it will be ineteresting to watch. Knowing the language isn't everything.
