Legend of Mana-City of Flickering Destruction - A true classic by Shimomura off one of the best (if not the best) game soundtrack ever. If you haven't heard it you should listen and pick up the rest of the soundtrack.

but if that was the case i doubt any game could stand up to Chrono Cross...ANY song in that OST is worthy of a nomination.

I'll have to go confirm tracks and all that, but Super Mario Galaxy has some very good stuff... I'd also be tempted to go with Midna's Lament (or whatever it is called) from Twilight Princess, and possibly the piano music from Super Mario World... there simply isn't enough ragtime piano present in the world of video game music.
