My OCD is worst then yours, it's not even close. :^p Still, I'll be happy if I manage to finish 25 or 30 games by the 1st of january.

I should at least be done with Bayonetta, Bayonetta 2 and Vanquish + Bioshock 2 and Infinite. So far, this is what I got:

1) Assassin's Creed
2) Assassin's Creed 2
3) Injustice: gods among us (PS4)
4) Halo 3
5) Halo reach
6) Diablo III reaper of souls
7) Starcraft 2 Heart of the swarm
8) USFIV
9) UMvC3
10) The Last of Us (PS4)
11) Infamous
12) Killzone Shadow Fall
13) GT5
14) Mario Kart 8

I'm currently working on a full run of ME3 with all the DLC and if all goes well, should be able to complete 8-10 games by the end of december thx to the christmas break (almost done with AC Brotherhood, Xcom enemy within and Bayonetta). :] It's time to complete short games (indies), fighters and FPS. ;)

I'm nowhere near close to 52 games, however I noted those I only played, not beat as far as story or collectables.

1) Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus
2) Mark of the Ninja (Beat the DLC)
3) Crysis 2
4) Crysis 3
5) Trine 2
6) Brothers - A Tale of Two Sons
7) Alice: Madness Returns
8) Sine Mora
9) Sonic CD (Quickly played through it just to see an ending)
10) Thomas was Alone (100%)
11) Alpha Protocol
12) Legend of Grimrock
13) Torchlight II
14) Dyad (only played it, did beat anything or 100%'ed it)
15) Red Dead Redemption
16) RDR: Undead Nightmare (I cheat, I view it as it's own game)
17) Wipeout 2048
18) Ratchet & Clank
19) Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando
20) Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal
21) Canabalt HD (just played it, did not accomplish anything)
22) Ratchet: Deadlocked
23) Half-Life 2 (replayed it, got all achievements)
24) Sonic & All-Stars Racing
25) Diablo 3 w/expansion
26) Metro 2033 (on Ranger Hardcore, which was surprisingly easy)
27) Shadows of Mordor
28) Sunset Overdrive
29) The Walking Dead: DLC

Alright, just 23 games left!

Still have Halo 4, The Wolf Among Us Season 1, Never Alone, GTA V as sure finishes before 2014 is up. And possibly Hotline Miami with dragon age and assassins creed unity as a very unlikely possibility to close out my year.

So likely finish with 43/52 which is closer than i thought i would be at. Perhaps next year if enough titles come out to interest me.

Game 59: Ico - 7 hours

My first actual replay of a game all year (well Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow was also one, but I hadn't played it in about 8 years).

Ico is an experience that is all too perfect. A landmark achievement in video game narrative that so many others have tried to copy but none have come even remotely close to matching. So many elements we take for granted these days, like the subtle character interactions, the lack of HUDs, and soundtrack devoted more to natural sounds and ambiance were used here to great effect. There isn't a single part of the game that feels extraneous or aggravating, and catching glimpses of previously conquered rooms as you progress through the castle is a surprisingly effective form of reward. Yorda is a brilliant example of making an escort mission, and a sometimes frustrating one at that, into a subtle form of expression from a character who is, by all accounts, a blank doll for Ico to protect. Ico himself is also mostly developed through his movements; the way he gently takes Yorda's hand, his wild, clumsy swings against the shadow monsters, and the exertion he shows while pulling off his stunts all amount to a genuine, emotive character in a game with maybe a dozen lines of dialogue.

Ico is practically perfect. You've heard it before and you don't need me to convince you. Every gamer should own a copy.

Game 39: 2048 - November 26th, 2014 - 18 hours
JwS138a.png

I feel a little odd including a iPhone game, let alone one that borrowed so heavily on Threes' ideas. Still, I spent a LOT of time playing this game. It provided me a pretty nice distraction in between classes. I finally deleted it from my phone though, because I'm pretty sick of it after so many hours.

Game 40: 80 Days - Novembee 28th, 2014 - 2.5 hours
Z6w3fHc.png

I was really sour on mobile games recently. I saw them mostly as timewasters (like 2048) or as massive money hogs with their IAPs and terrible money model. I saw this game on TIME's top games of the year list and I thought maybe it was time to give iOS a shot. I'm glad I did, because this game is exactly the kind that fits on my iPad. The "choose-your-own-adventure" genre is perfect for a tablet. The game does a fantastic job of drawing you into the narrative and making you interested in going out of your way to explore. I do wish the game would allow you to share and reuse seeds, but can't have everything!

Game 41: Tales of Hearts R - December 2nd, 2014 - 32 hours
5fem0uB.png

Possibly one of my favorite Vita JRPGs now. The battle system is fantastic, the story is serviceable, and the characters are so damn lovable. The skits throughout the game were totally goofy, but so, so well done. There were some really irritating translation issues, but the game was still very understandable. I can't wait to go back and play a NG+. It's such a lovable game. I can't wait to play more Tales games now!

Game 60: Conker: Live & Reloaded - 10 hours

Another favourite from back in the day that I haven't played in years. The Xbox remake is stunningly good looking even today, though playing it on 360 seems to cause some visual glitches, lock ups, and occasional game bugs. Still had a lot of fun, though I'll probably stick to my N64 copy.

Wow, only 43% complete? But I saw the credits so it totally counts. Also added an Abandoned section cuz who am I kidding am I right

Game #48: Crash Bandicoot 3 (PSN) - 5-ish hours (Finished)
Finally, the one I grew up with! The reason I decided to play through these was to see if the second or third one was better. Unlike Spyro where the one I grew up with (2) ended up being my favorite, this one's tougher to decide. They each have their strengths and weaknesses and they balance each other out in my mind. You have more to do gameplay-wise in 3 and it works well when not underwater but 2 is very well-constructed around the core Crash gameplay except for the rocket levels. The music is good in both games though I think 2's is slightly better. I prefer Crash's movement in 3 over the others, especially the Death Tornado Spin. 3 also has the best bosses overall and my favorite Crash villain, N. Tropy. In the end, the biggest point really is the fact that you can use the analog stick in 3 instead of the D-pad, and that's a huge deal considering the PS D-pad. Gonna have to give it to 3 for that. Without it, I couldn't pick.

Haha, seems like it. Assassin's Creed 1? In 2014? Now that's some serious backloggery, man! :-D

I sorted through my trophy data and found that i had finished a few more games that i forgot, which puts me close to an even thirty. Not close to the 52 game target, but i can probably finish project diva f or assassins creed unity to make it over the thirty game line and salvage some gaming self respect.

Now, if only i could stop playing Dragon Age: Inquisition and Geometry Wars 3.. :-s

Alright, just got my 52 in time. It's pretty interesting, I've been keeping tabs of games I've finished for 5-6 years now and I did a count and the numbers are pretty regular across the years despite playing lots of 60 hour rpgs and 3 hour indies. I tend to finish about 53-58 games a year with one low year in 2013 at 38 games because I had a lot going on in my life. But 2014 looks to be back at the same numbers.

October 2007?! GBA was around an viable alot longer then I even remembered! Does The Legend of Spyro: The Eternal Night have a sequel at all? Cause everytime I get to the end of it the games enormous cliffhanger gets to me >.<

Games Beaten: 49 / 52
Total Playtime: 553 hours, 00 minutes

01 - 33!
34 - ??!

Time to finally make my list, it's not in any real order though I'll probably list the "bad" ones 1st & I have no clue as to how long it took to beat some of these games:

1. Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z PC
This game is hot Doo Doo Butter on all fronts & proof positive that Inafune is full of shit.

2. Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 PC
The media it hated but I thought is better than 1st & DmC which the media seemed to love. Still wasn't anything special though & the Dracula VS Satan fight was lame.

3. Battlefield 4 PC - Played for 11 Hours
Boy did I pick the best game to get back into online FPS games or what?...

4. Crysis 3 PC - Played for 12 Hours, Completed on 8/11/14
I wont say Crysis 3 is the worst $6.50 I've ever spent but it's easily the worst $6.50 I've spent on a Video Game. So gorgeous yet so damn boring.

5. Rage PC - Played for 21 Hours, Completed on 11/21/14
See game #4 but change the price to $4.00. I didn't like much about the game & it ended just as I was starting to warm up to it.

6. Serious Sam 3: BFE PC - Played for 21 Hours, Completed on 11/26/14
Holy Fucking Shit! This game has terribly unbalanced & unfair enemy encounters & it's just plain not fun.

7. Dungeon Siege III: Treasures of the Sun DLC PC - Completed on 5/15/14
It took place in the Desert & there were Skeleton Warriors, that's all I remember...

8. Double Dragon Neon PC - Completed on 10/18/14
Loved the music, the humor & the art style, hated the gameplay. Playing Co-Op with my cousin made it far more tolerable than the 1st time I played it.

9. Binary Domain PC - Played for 10 Hours, Completed on 12/3/14
Bought this game form GMG in order to get Jet Set Radio for free & to give it a 2nd even though I hated it when I played it on PS3. Boring & dragged out boss fights, useless weapons, shitty characters (except for Bo & Cain). It's more Quantum Theory than it is Vanquish.

10. LEGO MARVEL Super Heros PC - Played for 37 Hours, Completed on 6/11/14
I really liked it at 1st but then the unskippable cutscenes & the way some of the objects that needed to be destroyed in order to progress were way too finicky wore me down.

11. Injustice: Gods Among Us Ultimate Edition PC - Played for 6 Hours, Completed on 5/26/14
I like DC's Super Heroes & Fighting Games but I hate Mortal Kombat's combo system...

12. Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 3 Full Burst PC - Played for 23 hours, Completed on 6/32/14
Only reason I play these games is to catch up with the Anime, they're pretty as all hell but the gameplay isn't anything to write home about like most of CyberConnect 2's recent games.

13. Tomb Raider PC - Played for 18 Hours, Completed on 4/17/14
The best way I can describe is "Yup, that's a game alright...". I didn't really like the game but I didn't hate it either. There's nothing truly remarkable or memorable about it.

14. Killer is Dead Nightmare Edition PC - Played for 13 Hours, Completed on 5/27/14
Suda 51 games have great premises, artstyles & characters but they aren't really all that fun to play & KiD is no exception.

15. Dusty Revenge PC - Played for 7 Hours, Completed on 7/6/14
Pretty cool Side-Scrolling Beat Em Up, story was meh & the combat was stiff for something that's supposed to be inspired by Devil May Cry but other than that it was pretty good.

16. The Bureau: XCOM Declassified PC - Played for 18 Hours, Completed on 8/10/14
As some who always gets wrecked in Strategy games I enjoyed/appreciated the more action oriented approach this game has.

17. Bardbarian PC - Played for 9 Hours, Completed on 6/6/14
Bought it off of the name alone & had a lot of fun with it

18. Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon PC - Played for 17 Hours, Completed on 6/23/14
Didn't hate it, but love it either. The humor hit more than it missed which is good & I didn't enjoy the weapons as much as FC3 though.

19. Renegade Ops PC - Played for 10 Hours, Completed on 2/1/14
Hated it when I played it on PS3 but I think it's because I picked a character with a defensive ability, this game is all about offense & it was a lot more fun with the other characters.

20. Marvel Heroes 2015 PC - Played for 17 Hours, Completed on 11/17/14
I was originally gonna wait til Iron Fist was added as a playable character before jumping in but the praise it received after it's retooling/revamping + Black Panther being playable convinced me to give it a go. This game doesn't handicap you(if at all) as bad as DCUO does if you choose to not to put money into it which is a huge plus in my book. While I did have fun I probably wont play again until Iron Fist is playable.

21. South Park: The Stick of Truth PC - Played for 20 Hours, Completed on 4/19/14
You know that feeling when you fart on a Nazi Zombie Fetus & get Super Aids? Awesome

22. Batman: Arkham City GOTY PC - Played for 32 Hours, Completed on 9/22/14
I hate Batman but I like the Arkham games. I used to feel that AA was better but after playing AC again I'm not really sure. (Origins is still in 3rd place though.)

23. Shank 2 PC - Played for 9 Hours, Completed on 7/9/14
Played it immediately after finishing the 1st one so I wasn't a fan of the new control scheme but I got used to it after taking a break from it. The enemy encounters were fun but some of the boss fights were weak, still one of the better Beat Em Ups on Steam though.

24. Mark of the Ninja PC - Played for 17 Hours, Completed on 7/15/14
I liked the game but I felt like it was longer than it needed to be & I thought the plot twist was wack.

25. Final Fantasy X HD PS Vita - Played for 61 Hours, Completed on 7/25/14
I liked the game as a Teen but not so much as an Adult. Game was a lot harder than I remembered in some spots & the "romance" between Tidus & Yuna was laughably bad. 12 years later & still can't dodge lightning bolts worth a damn...

26. Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing Transformed PC - 8 Hours, Completed on 5/16/14
Got for free on Vita via PS Plus & liked it so much that I bought it on PC. Hope they're making a sequel.

Why didn't you just bail on some of those? Sounds like you wasted a bunch of your life on games you weren't enjoying :\

November
77. The Novelist / 2 hrs
78. 1001 Spikes / 20 hrs
(this was actually last summer, forgot to add it)

December

79. Dragon Age: Inquistion / 88 hrs

Drained almost every quest out of this. DA was a really great game. I really burnt myself out on RPGs this year though.

Game 61: Ratchet & Clank - 18 hours

It was probably a bad idea playing this after having gone through most of the other games in the series, because this game was seriously rustic. The weapons are lame and the complete lack of any lock-on or strafing is a serious buzzkill. I still mostly had fun, but it was pretty frustrating.

Done.

Game 52 Bayonetta 2, Wii U
Phenomenal all around. Finished it on 2nd Climax, going back for more later but done for now, it'll be a damn shame if there is never another one.

OT

Time travel would make this challenge (and most others) super easy.

Game #49: Super Time Force Ultra - 4.8 hours (Finished)
This is probably the cheesiest game I've ever played. Everything from the story to the dialogue to the characters to the graphics to the music reeks of cheese. If you have a problem with cheese you might wanna stand back. The gameplay - the reason I was even thinking of checking this out - is easier to grasp than I thought it was. It's all about planning behind. Time travel and strategy work well together. I mean, you're pretty much time traveling every time you press Continue or load a checkpoint in any other game. Imagine if that last playthrough was still there when you got back. Now add some guns, explosions and general craziness and you have this game. Good stuff.
But dat hug

Games 1-34

Additions to list:

35) Bioshock Infinite: Burial at Sea
Not sure if this counts, as it's DLC, but it feels like a full game unto itself. Great addition to one of my favorites of 2013, it's a must play for fans of the franchise.

36) Call of Duty Advanced Warfare
Yup, it's CoD. I enjoyed the single player and almost reached first prestige before giving it a break. Best CoD in years.

37) Assassin's Creed Unity
Very disappointing addition to a franchise I love, but not a bad game. It just didn't add anything that we haven't seen before.

38) Pokemon Omega Ruby Version
A remake of one of my favorites of all time, I beat the Elite Four and finshed Episode Delta, but still haven't caught all the legendaries or even touched the post game battle content.

39) Star Wars: The Force Unleased
I played almost all of this game back in 2008, before my brother wiped our shared PS3's memory. I've finally gotten around to playing it again, and man it hasn't aged well at all. Still good fun though.

40) Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn
This is my first extended experience with an MMO, and I loved it. Only got to around level 20, but it took a very long time and I intend to return to it at some point in the next couple months.

41) Sniper Elite III
I loved V2, but this one didn't do as much for me. I don't know what it is, I just didn't get hooked like I did with it's predecessor.

42) Crysis 3
Picked it up on a sale, and while it's better than 2, it's FAR worse than the original. I got it on PC for about $5 after I played it on PS3 but I don't think I'll ever touch the PC version, no matter how pretty it is.

43) Mario Kart 8
This game just exudes joy, and I love it. I haven't techincally "beat" it yet, but I've played quite a bit online and a little off, and by the end of the year that playtime will be even larger, what with the new DLC and all.

I did it!
Claiming this spot. I don't know if I'll be able to do it, but I will try!

Game 1: Wolfenstein: The New Order (PC)
Loved it.

Game 2: Dark Souls 2 (PC)
Loved it.

Game 3: Call of Duty Ghosts (PS4)
It was alright. Nothing special.

Game 4: Killzone: Shadow Fall (PS4)
Disappointed in this game. It was extremely boring compared to KZ2 and KZ3 for me.

Game 5: Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes (PS4)
Loved it. Can't wait for The Phantom Pain!

Game 6: Titanfall (PC)
Made it to Generation 9, level 50. The game is very fun but there just isn't enough content for me.

Game 7: Mirror's Edge (PC)
Replay. Spent a lot of time taking screenshots.

Game 8: Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag (PC)
100% sync in the singleplayer, didn't touch the MP.

Game 9: Assassin's Creed Freedom Cry (PC)
An enjoyable, yet short game that uses AC4's mechanics. Loved it.

Game 10: Battlefield 3 [Started in 2011] (PC)
Despite owning BF4 and playing that for more already, I still kept coming back to BF3. Something about it was magical. I decided to stop playing BF3 though once second assault released for BF4.

Game 11: Deus Ex: Human Revolution [Started in 2013] (PC)
Loved it.

Game 12: Assassin's Creed Liberation (PC)
I'm a big fan of AC, but this game sucked. Got 100% sync.

Game 13: Destiny (PS4)
My vote for worst game of 2014. It's as bad as Borderlands. I was so hyped for it.

Game 14: Halo 2 (PC)
It's my favorite Halo game. Replayed the campaign and also hopped into multiplayer for a bit. Took some screenshots too.

Game 15: Ryse: Son of Rome (XBONE)
I got it on sale with my Xbox One. Addicting and entertaining. Loved it.

Game 16: Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare (XBONE)
Loved it.

Game 17: Forza Horizon 2 (XBONE)
Not a big fan of racers, but this game was pretty fun.

Game 18: Halo 2 Anniversary SP (XBONE)
I thought it looked very good, though there were some glaring FPS issues at points.

Game 19: Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare (XBONE)
A fun little multiplayer game, though it's nothing special IMO.

Game 20: The Last of Us: Remasterd (PS4)
Replay. Loved it.

Game 21: Resogun (PS4)
A fun little game, though it wasn't very replayable for me.

Game 22: GTA V (XBONE)
I beat this game on PS3 and didn't really like it, so I gave it another chance. The FPS mode is cool but I still don't care for this game.

Game 23: Alien: Isolation (PC)
Loved it.

Game 24: The Stanley Parable (PC)
Loved it.

Game 25: The Witcher 2 (PC)
I tried to love it but I couldn't. The combat is really bad and I had an issue that wouldn't let me progress further in the game. 19 hours.

Game 26: XCOM: Enemy Unknown (PC)
Didn't like it.

Game 27: Tomb Raider 2013 (PC)
It was alright. Nothing special.

Game 28: Red Faction: Guerrilla (X360)
Loved the destructible environments. Can't wait to replay it on PC.

Game 29: Batman: Arkham Asylum (PC)
It was okay. I'm not a big fan of super heroes and the combat was really boring.

Game 30: Batman: Arkham City (PC)
It was okay. I'm not a big fan of super heroes and the combat was really boring.

Game 31: Borderlands (PC)
Bland gunplay. Bland enemies. Bland environments. Too much loot. It outstayed its welcome.

Game 32: Borderlands 2 (PC)
Bland gunplay. Bland enemies. Bland environments. Too much loot. Funny characters were the only plus.

Game 33: Call of Duty 4 (PC)
Replayed the campaign and spent a bunch of time in the multiplayer. This is still my favorite COD.

Game 34: Dead Space 3 (PC)
Loved it.

Game 35: Battlefield: Bad Company 2 (PC)
Played the multiplayer. It's a very fun game and it has some great maps.

Game 36: Far Cry 2 (PC)
It was alright. Nothing special.

Game 37: Dishonored (X360)
Loved it. Planning to replay it on PC.

Game 38: Crysis 3 (PS3)
Replay. Looked and ran way worse than the PC version, though I expected it. The gameplay was still as fun as it ever was.

Game 39: Crysis 3 (PC)
Replay. Looked amazing and it was pretty fun.

Game 40: Battlefield 4 (PC)
Played tons of it and loved every DLC. My time in the CTE was even better than the original game. I think I'm done though.

Game 41: Dragon Age: Origins (PC)
Gave up. The combat was horrible and ruined my enjoyment of the story.

Game 42: Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary SP (X360)
Replayed on Legendary.

Game 43: Dragon Age: Inquisition (XBONE)
Lost interest. Bland combat.. Thankfully this was a rental.

Game 44: Watch Dogs (XBONE)
It was alright. Nothing special.

A fun little co-op game.

Game 51: Infamous: Second Son (PS4)

Games #46 - 50

Game #51: Picross e5
# I've never played Picross before even though I love pure-puzzle games like this! It took me a while to get used to, but I found the puzzles really fun and relaxing once I did.

Game #52: Bit.trip Beat
# There's something about this game that I really love! Rhythm games are one of my favourite game genres, but I'm not a big fan of most of the Bit.trip series. Runner and Runner 2 are pretty good, but the others aren't that fun for me. Except for Beat; this game is amazing! It's Super Hexagon levels of hard, but I finally beat the third level!

Didn't complete much in October, but I played lots of stuff that I'm getting around to complete now. I'm positive I'll manage to reach 52 games before the year's end.

- OCTOBER -

Game 26: The Bridge - 6/10 - 5 hours
Completed the main game, I'm more then halfway in the mirror world but kind of lost interest. The game takes a lot from Escher's paintings for its aestethics and heavily from Braid in terms of gameplay; in fact it takes so much from it that it lacks a bit of personality, it even goes as far as using the same pseudo-philosophical narrations in between worlds, hidden collectibles akin to Braid's stars, and the same hub: a house. The puzzles, although fun in the way they're solved, are sometimes too easy, sometimes almost broken, especially those involving the curtains in the later stages; the controls are really loose and don't help at all in solving the puzzles.

Game 27: Gunpoint - 7,5/10 - 7 hours
Completed the storyline with all A+ rankings and got almost all achievements. The game's very limited in what you can do: yes you can approach things in more than one way, but those various ways remain the same ones for all the missions. The gameplay doesn't evolve much during the course of the campaign, which, by the way, is very short and repetitive: all missions are "hack this and get out", the optional goals aren't worth your time, unless you accidentally complete them without even noticing (happened to me most of the times). Also the story doesn't really branches off, unless you consider that one instance when you can choose between two different missions; for the rest it's all minor stuff that doesn't actually change the way the plot unfolds. There are very insteresting things, such as the way upgrades work, the cross-link system, the way the plot is narrated and the great sense of humour employed by the developer. it's a unique gameplay gem, but it's not that mind-blowing of a game.

Game 28: Pikmin 3 - 8,5/10 - 34 hours and 11 minutes
Completed the campaign with all fruits, and got a platinum in every free co-op challenge. Another great entry in the franchise, but it falls short of the first two; the game has been overly simplified: unlike what happened in the previous games, here you're constantly guided towards a certain objective, you can see where are all the fruits almost from get go, you really have no urgency whatsoever like in first game because the fruit buffer gets enormous quickly. Moreover the pikmin are almost invincible, they don't insta-die due to electricity anymore, even when they are squished under someone's feet they usually just get planted in the ground: the challenge just isn't there anymore, not even the final boss proves to be a worthy opponent. The game's also shorter and has less content than Pikmin 2, it's disappointing that the white and purple pikmin can only be used in the challenge, though the new flying and rock pikmin are amazing additions, especially the former. speaking of challenges, they're like crack, you can replay them ad nauseam, but it's too bad they're not too many and you have to buy the remaining ones.

Game 62: Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando - 16 hours

A huge improvement over the first game and the best of the original quartet. The gameplay is leaps improved with strafing, lock on and better, bigger weapons, and the light RPG mechanics with health. armor and weapon upgrades adds a lot of depth.

Game 40 : Alien Isolation - 13 hours
Pretty good alien game. Less of a focus on combat, and more on hide and seek. Kinda long, but pretty good. Story is pretty good and could easily be seen as a legit story in the Alien universe.
4.5/5

Game 41 : Papers, Please - 3:08
Got ending 9 out of 20. Really fun game that make you think and focus really hard. Depressing game where you feel trapped all the time. 4/5

Game 42 : Super Smash Bros Wii U - 15 ish hours
Unlocked all the fighters, really big game. Tons of stuff left to do. It's probably the best Smash to date.

Game 43 : Captain Toad : Treasure Tracker - 7 hours
Completed all 3 chapters and a couple of the bonus one. Really cute and bright game. Would recommend anybody who want a light puzzle game or a perfect game to teach game mechanism to a young kid.

Original Post with #1-68
Sequel Post with #69-76

Having a productive December so far, I am partially through a nest of games that I should finish up once I start taking days off at Christmas time. Heavenly Sword, Fez, Onimusha 4, Doom 3 Lost Mission among others. My list would be 1 higher, but I recently bombed out partway through Mirror's Edge due to my motion sickness. I'd count it if I were mostly done it, but checking a walkthrough I probably was about a third, so no dice.

Game 75: Killzone: Liberation (PSP) - December 2 - 8 hours
Excellent design decision to go to a top-down shooter game for a handheld rather than shoehorning the same game as the playstation Killzones. As a result, this is now my favourite Killzone game. Excellent graphics and fair difficulty, save for the last 2 boss fights which I found brutal. I would be down for a Liberation 2 for the Vita.

Game 76: Aero Porter (3DS) - December 10 - 7 hours
The whole Guild 01 thing was a great idea by Level-5, but my 1st foray into the games was just okay. Simple concept and controls, but the difficulty ramps up quickly and there isn't much more to the game once you level up your airport to International. Fun, but not much to it.

Re-settled!

Game #50: Super Smash Bros. for Wii U - 79 hours, 09 mins (Finished)
Got all the characters/stages and "completed" all the challenges. Again. Remember when I said Smash is my favorite game series? Actually, just read my 3DS description (Game #41) but remove the content and controls complaints, add a bunch of compliments on presentation and laugh at Smash Tour.

"Try to go easy on the car!" No one said ya couldn't play two versions of the same game! But to be fair Daytona USA saturn/dreamcast have a fair bit of differences! Just 20 more days to beat one last game~

Games Beaten: 51 / 52
Total Playtime: 554 hours, 42 minutes

01 - 33!
34 - ??!

Games 1 through 31 (updated)

32. Mass Effect 3 (PS3) - 11th December - approx. 25 hours
A good game overall but it's my least favourite in the series, and that's not just because of the ending. I do love the universe Bioware created and got genuinely attached to some of the characters like Garrus, Mordin and Wrex. The general plot was kind of nonsense and I didn't really like the tone either, as there were too many side missions and no sense of urgency. I also didn't enjoy the combat as much as ME2, and felt like there were too many rooms that you walk into and fend off waves of enemies, and many of those enemies are horrible bastard bullet sponges that just are not fun to fight. 7.5/10

I'm now playing Red Dead Redemption and will try to finish a couple of smaller digital games before the end of the year too.

My finished log

This challenge surprised both with how hard it was to maintain pace, and yet how easy it was to get ahead of schedule. Of course it really all comes down to how busy life is getting and how short the games are you're playing.

After 7 years of Final Fantasy XI followed by 5 or so years of CoD/BF obsession, I got into a really bad slump of never beating games. I would start new games, but eventually just return to my mainstay game and drop whatever new thing it was I was playing. During the years that I was really into FFXI (2004~2007), I probably beat fewer than 2 games each year.

As a kid, I played games to get 100%. As a young adult, I played games to get achiecements, when applicable. Beating games was often something that happened as a consequence or an accident. As I approach the end of my 20s, I no longer have a lot of time to play games. I have a wife, kids, a job, and I go to school. My interest in achievements has lessened a great deal, and 100% games is not something I care about any longer.

This challenge helped me realign and reorient myself with games. I used to hate to finish games because that meant our time together was over. In reality, I would frequently prolong the experience only to eventually grow bored and stop playing anyways. Now I have a drive to finish games. I no longer fear the end of the game, but rather embrace it. I have learned that there are always more games than I can possibly play, and by beating a game I get to start a new experience.

In short, this challenge has fundamentally changed the way I play games after 28 years of life. 5/5 would play again.

In November the retrogaming floodgates opened, I played heaps of Game Boy games and put a huge dent in the challenge (on which I had almost given up before this month). SO MUCH KIRBY!!!!

- NOVEMBER -

Game 29: The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening - 8/10 - around 15 hours
Completed the game, got all heart pieces and all the optional stuff but the missable photos. I hate to say it, but I think it's the worst Zelda I've ever played (I only need to play the original and Zelda II to complete the list), that isn't to say it's bad, in fact it's a good game, it just lacks a certain something: you can see it was made for a very limited handheld. One thing that really irked me is the lack of a proper way of quick transport: the warp points are placed weirdly and you can't reach certain places without huge detours, also the very basic and seldom helpful map isn't exactly hot stuff; the missable photos are a no-no, especially since you can't ever complete the album, due to having to choose between two different photos: wtf?

Game 30: Super Mario Land [replay] - 6/10 - around 40 minutes
Completed it fairly easily, the game is a breeze to get through. My nostalgia goggles shattered: it's a very average game that lacks basically anything that makes Mario great: the platforming is weak, the level design absolutely uninspired, the jumping physics and collision lacking. On the plus side it's weird as hell, you can tell it was made by Gunpei Yokoi: a level based around the Easter Island, exploding Koopas, shoot 'em up sections and alien abductions!

Game 31: Super Mario Land 2: Six Golden Coins [replay] - 7/10 - around 2 hours
Now, this one actually feels like Mario, even though it's still weird as hell. A good amount of the levels are boring and mostly maze-like, the challenge there isn't in the jumps but in finding the right path. The rabbit outfit is kinda redundant, they could have used Tanuki Mario instead. The last level is rage inducing: the game's been pretty tame till that point, then the difficulty curve becomes a freakin' wall and you lose dozens of lives all at once; they could've put a check point halfway or something damn!

Game 32: Half Minute Hero - 8,5/10 - 14:20 hours
Completed Hero 30, Evil Lord 30, Princess 30, Knight 30 and Hero 300, didn't try Hero 3 seriously yet, looks hard though. An amazing game to play in short bursts, the gimmick sounds stupid but works pretty well for what actually is all but an RPG (I'd say the main modes are in order: action puzzle, rts, runner, tower defense); however after the greatness that is Hero 30, with its numerous branching paths, secrets, great humour and immense replayability, the other modes kind of fall short of it, it's clear the meat of the game is Hero 30 and the other stuff is just there to diversify the experience.

Game 33: Kirby's Block Ball - 7,5/10 - around 7hours
Completed all the border lines and got the true ending. An Arkanoid/Breakout clone with style: you can inflate Kirby for more power, you can absorb powers from enemies, the stages are very different and you may have to use rackets on up to all the four sides of the screen in some of them, there are bosses, bonus stages to gain more lives and all the distinctive elements of the series. Best Arkanoid clone I've ever played.

Game 34: Kirby's Dream Land 2 - 7/10 - around 5 hours
Completed the game but haven't got all rainbow shards yet. It's leaps and bounds better than the first, it features the copy ability and animal friends, who add depth to the gameplay by altering the power in possession of Kirby accordingly. The level design is much better and the game's much longer.

Game 35: Kirby's Dream Land [replay] - 5,5/10 - around 1 hour
Completed the standard game. It's boring and overly simplicistic, not having the usual copy ability really hurts the game in retrospective.

Game 36: Kid Dracula - 6/10 - around 5 hours
It's a very clever action platformer, always throwing something new in your way, being it different ways to navigate the stage, new enemies or lots of powers to use. Actually you get so many powers that it's hard to navigate them, especially since the game can be though as iron and you can't afford to waste time, moreover you only regularly use like three of them, some like the umbrella are useful in just like two places in the whole game.

Game 37: Kirby and the Amazing Mirror - 8,5/10 - around 15 hours
Beat the final boss but still have to get may hidden treasures. Best Kirby game I've ever played... but it's not your typical Kirby game at all: it mixes the platforming and lore of the series with a metroidvania inspired progression, with a huge number of branching paths to follow, an interconnected big world, a maze-like structure, an auto-mapping feature and hidden treasures. The "going back to old areas with new items" part of the metroidvania genre is handled in a different way though, as you'll have to copy the right power to proceed in certain parts of the game, even though the powers aren't really progression based, you can get most of them in most of the "worlds" you visit. Amazing game, which offers hours upon hours of simple yet complex fun.

Game 38: Kirby's Pinball Land - 6,5/10 - around 3 hours
Beat Dedede. The game's cool and uses the Kirby franchise and characters in very funny and clever ways inside the pinballs, but there are some huge problems: having to beat all tables in one go to reach the end is a nightmare, sometimes the bosses are unfair, considering you can only do so much and most of the time Kirby's defenseless in the air; the whole game in general feels unfair in how it handles the trajectories of the ball, often ending in the lateral holes, where you can't do anything but watch the ball fall; yes, there's a safety net you can use to save the ball when you reach the deepest hole of the table, but then you slowly have to crawl your way to the top, fearing that one single error may force you to restart again, and again, and again.

Game 39: Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land - 6,5/10 - around 7 hours
Completed 100%. The main problem of the game is that it tries to rely on nostalgia alone, it really doesn't have anything that makes it stand out on its own, it's just yet another Dream Land game, it does't even feature animal friends like DL2, or any of the innovations of the newest Kirby games. It's really uninspired, not bad, but nothing to write home about. The map is cool but that's it.

Game 40: Drill Dozer - 8/10 - around 15 hours
Drilled through the game till the very end, I've seen everything it has to offer. An amazing and sadly overlooked action platformer which can really put you to the test with the secret maps. The gameplay reaches its peak when you're jumping from platform to platform by reverse drilling yourself out of various mechanisms, dodging insta-death lasers, using enemies as trampolines and solving maddening puzzles requiring a great comprehension of the game's working. Too bad the gameplay is watered down by a very forgettable plot, bland characters and the need to always power up twice in every stage to reach full throttle. It's one of those games you wish the made a sequel to refine the gameplay and address the few problems: we'd have a masterpiece.

Game 41: Super Mario Ball [replay] - 7,5/10 - around 7 hours
Completed the main quest, only left a bunch of stars. My favourite electronic pinball, it mixes Mario 64 adventure with the usual antics of any pinball, and most importantly it saves you progress, unlike Kirby's Pinball. Here the difficulty lies more in the tasks you have to complete to get the stars than in the fact you have to beat the whole game with just 3 damn balls. I have to say some stars are excruciatingly hard to get, especially when the ball seems to refuse to go in that one direction you need, but it's not unfair as in Kirby's Pinball, you can feel you made an error you could avoid 90% of the times. I suggest anyone to try it, it's full of nice touches and little surprises: a great execution.

Game 112 (December 3, 2014): Yoshi's New Island (3DS) - 11:56
This game felt like an add-on pack for the original Yoshi's Island. Not a bad thing, at all. For perspective, I enjoyed Yoshi's Island DS, a lot, and that seems to get panned a lot. In Yoshi's Island DS, it added two screen gameplay putting more focus on verticality in the levels and added different babies with different abilities that had to be managed. Yoshi's New Island, on the other hand, sticks with mostly one-screen gameplay (since only one screen is 3-D) instead of mixing it up with horizontal+vertical like on the 2 equal screen DS. Also, we're back to just one baby. The story is basically retelling Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, as well, which was a little confusing. Thankfully, story isn't really the point of these games. :p Overall, it was a good game, though. Nothing earth-shattering, but if you like Yoshi, go for it. :)
This leaves me with one physical 3DS game in the current backlog! Christmas is coming, and there's next year, so more will be added. However, it's nice to have dug out from the physical 3DS backlog from earlier in the year. :D

Game 113 (December 5, 2014): The Swapper (PC) - ~6.5 hours
Mechanic-wise, it's another puzzle platformer, which I've come to learn this year is a favorite of mine. :p Story-wise, it's ... confusing. From reading GFAQs threads, I apparently took the less taken ending of
choosing to keep this abomination of an existence to myself instead of thrusting it on an unsuspecting crew who was just trying to rescue me
. In reality, might've tried to swap with
one of the Watchers
instead of
throwing myself off a cliff
, but the game gave no such option at the end. :/ Gameplay-wise, it's great. Mechanics work well, and the puzzles can really leave you head scratching to complete some of them. Nice stuff. :) If you're looking for a thought-provoking story that's
not too happy an ending
or don't care about story and like puzzle platformers, would recommend picking this one up.

Game 114 (December 8, 2014): The Powerpuff Girls: Defenders of Townsville (PC) - ~2.5 hours
Was aware of the Powerpuff Girls in the early 2000s, but wasn't a diehard into them. Am a diehard Metroidvania fan, though, and this is definitely a good Metroidvania-lite game. Think it would be great on the 3DS eShop, too. Colorful, well-drawn graphics, smooth controls (always appreciated), ability progression with a pretty good way of letting you know where to backtrack to in order to try out your new abilities. Overall, a good little game. (Bring it to 3DS eShop!)

Game 115 (December 11, 2014): Puzzle Agent (PC) - 2-3 hours
Heard this one described as a Layton-lite gameplay, but having played and enjoyed Layton games, more like an Elementary school version of a Layton game. Puzzles aren't stupidly simple, but too many clues giving away the answers (or the puzzle outright solving itself with the locking puzzle pieces) in the puzzles to put up too much of a challenge. Story was vaguely interesting, and will finish it in PA2 (hopefully). Worth the $0.99 I paid for it, but it really leaves me wanting to go download Layton and the Azran Legacy now! :lol

Game 116 (December 15, 2014): Wario Land 3 (GBC, 3DS VC) - 14:44
Good solid Wario Land game. Not as good as WLII, but a solid entry. Didn't get 100% as
there doesn't seem to be any real motivation to outside of saying "Hey, I got 100%" unlike Wario Land II
. Wario was Wario. Powers were more piecemeal this time requiring a lot of backtracking. Would've been exceptionally easy to get "lost" in the game and not remember what new ability you just got or what that does for you, if it wasn't for the Temple guide, so very thankful for that gameplay element. Good Wario game, if you like the Wario Land games, for sure!
Have now played Wario Land 1-4 for the first time ever. Feels good to visit the "classic" series that I skipped at the time (like Kirby). :)

Game 117 (December 16, 2014): Puzzle Agent 2 (PC) - 3-4 hours
Some of the puzzles were a bit harder, but otherwise, same notes as on Puzzle Agent 1. Layton Elementary version with a pretty strange story. Doesn't take long, though, so not bad. :)

Game * (December 16, 2014): A Slower Speed of Light (PC) - 0:15
This is a simple collecting game in a town with the effect of each orb collected being to slow down the speed of light. As you approach 100 orbs, you begin experiencing relativistic effects and even
time dilation
. It's awesome! This was put together by some people with spare time at MIT. Fun stuff. :)

Game 118 (December 16, 2014): The Stanley Parable (PC) - 2:15
Interesting game. "Beat" it several times before taking the "real" ending. Definitely will give it an A+ for replayability (
until you've exhausted the ending options
). Never saw the
Zending
, but that's okay. Interesting game worth a play. :)

Game 119 (December 22, 2014): About Love, Hate and the other ones (PC) - 6 hours
An actual new release game from Steam! :lol Basically never get these until a big sale, but the publisher put out an 80% coupon, which made it all work out. :) Puzzle game that takes place on platforms, so sort of a puzzle-platformer (continuing my newly recognized genre trend).
80
levels so a lot to do in this one. Most aren't too bad, but some of the later ones may have you scratching your head. Charming that the main characters mechanics are to whisper "I love you" and "I hate you" to move around the pieces to get through each level. "I hate you, I hate you, I hate you." "I love you, I love you, I love you." Good thing the voices aren't bothersome! Throws in a couple of extra set pieces to provide new abilities, too. Think they'll probably open this up to user-created levels with Steam Workshop, since it's a fairly simple setup to make levels. Saw the IOS version level

The Last One?
. Probably means either DLC or (more likely) opening it up for user created content. Good game to get extra levels either way. Recommended!

Game 120 (December 24, 2014): Kirby's Return to Dreamland (Wii) - ~10 hours
Of all the Kirby games I've played, this one was the most forgiving about needing to carry abilities through hard areas to get the collectables. For the most part, it would often have the ability right there or maybe the screen before. Very newbie friendly! Liked the game. Played Co-Op for a while, fizzled out, and then went back and did the whole think single-player to get everything. Fun game. Not too frustrating final boss. Very nice! :D

Games 121, 123-125, 127: The Walking Dead, Season 2 (PC) - ~11 hours total

Episode 1: All That Remains (December 24, 2014) - ~3 hours
What's the point of playing Season 1 and 400 days if they kill off everyone but Clementine in the first minutes of Season 2!?!
*Ahem* Anyways, much more dreary, but I guess as hope gets crushed again and again from Season 1 that's to be expected. Trying to keep Clementine good, honest, friendly, and trying to hold onto a bit of her childhood. Not an easy task to say the least. She's got some great survival skills, though! Don't like the people that
want to kill you for any old reason. Basically kill everyone else to try to save what they have. Not cool, man!
Hope there's an end game for this series and it's not going to just go on for Season after Season just because it can, though. Would like to hope there's some eventual light at the end of the tunnel.
Episode 2: A House Divided (December 28, 2014) - 2 hours
Okay, the series has finally jumped the shark.
Kenny was 100% dead
in Season 1. No maybes. No buts. No possibilities. That's just ridiculous. Also, the overall story took its first major misstep with
forcing us to go back to dead-man-walking Carver's school of torture and insanity
. The series has always been moving forward before. May not have liked the direction, but it was forward.
Going back is a major misstep, I feel.
Also, the game should've had a
shoot Carver now
option. When he
callously broke Carlos's finger after he barged in at the house like he was God, it was clear that the better option for the world is that this man would be dead. I'd have willingly done it. It needed to be done. If I was Kenny, I'd have trusted my ability to shoot and taken Carver out. Leaving him alive was a mistake. We'll see how big of one in the next episode, I guess.
On the actual episode gameplay, it was slow and didn't go much of anywhere. Are they applying the brakes on the story to stretch it out? Maybe. Would go along with that story mistake mentioned earlier, too. Don't like it when there's a clear plan and direction for a story, and then stuff gets thrown in obviously just to make it longer (e.g. Mockingjay, Part II; Hobbit being turned into 3 movies). Ugh. Hope Episode 3 rights things quickly, and then maybe they can salvage Season 2 in Episdoes 4 and 5. :/
Episode 3: In Harm's Way (December 29, 2014) - 1:45
Glad to just get that filler episode over with. Good:
Carver's dead. If soceity's going to rebuild, it can't be with people like him.
Bad:
Carlos was killed. Lots of other bad stuff, too, but injured is still better than dead.
Quick episode (might be my shortest, yet), and glad to just get it over with. Guess they'll spend Ep. 4 getting people reoriented back to the real goal, and maybe we'll get back to where we were in Episode 2 by the time Episode 5 finishes. Hmmm. :/
Episode 4: Amid the Ruins (December 29, 2014) - 2 hours
Yep, Episode 4 is essentially getting things back to where they were at the end of #2. Yes, the players may have changed around some, but 3 and 4 were still basically a wash. Don't stuff in filler, TellTale! Also, the choices in Season 2 seem to be more stark. Not as much soul-searching for the "right" way to go. Need more of those gray areas that push the story in far out directions. Maybe that's easier to do with a man who's with the leaders of the group (Season 1) than a little girl who is supposed to follow the adults (Season 2). Guess that makes Season 2 more linear, then. :(
Episode 5: No Going Back (December 30, 2014) - ~2 hours
Hmph. Well, then. On the good side:
Kenny's impossible resurrection didn't continue, as he's now gone; With Jane who is one of the more stable people out there. (Where's that girl from Savannah? Need her, too!) And got to see Lee again, even if it was a dream.
On the bad side:
We're back at Carver's old place. Don't want to be anywhere he was, as his people may make a return. Anyone who was okay with Carver at the end is not okay with me. Two girls with a baby isn't the safest combination, I think. Also, question mark with the new family, but they seem fine, right now. Will see for reals in Season 3, until they're all killed off early like the stragglers from Season 1 were in Season 2. :/
On the general note, a much more poignant conclusion than most of the other episodes. Don't like how everything got split up (always prefer staying as a group, like Lee), but it's not terrible. Feel Clem kept most of her humanity, even if childhood isn't really an option in this world. So many senseless deaths. Won't ever rebuild soceity going like this. :( Looking forward to Season 3 in 2016 (after it's complete and goes on sale. :p)!

Game 122 (December 27, 2014): Mega Man III (GB, 3DS VC) - 4:02
First rate applause for
only having two forms of Dr. Wily at the end and neither particularly maniacal
, and it was a nice change of pace to
not have to replay all 8 bosses again before facing Wily
! Maybe it was a consequence of being on the original GameBoy and having space, etc. limitations, but it was still a nice change from the typical Mega Man formula. :) Game was fun (with save states)! As with pretty much all the Mega Mans I've played (including back on the original NES), it's way too demanding of prolonged memorization + pixel-perfect precision in actions to be playable reasonably without huge amounts of senseless frustration on my part, but with save states, it becomes a completeable task that allows seeing of the bosses and level design placed in the game. It reuses bosses from the NES games, but the levels are new, and it's always fun (for me) to play back to OG GB games. Looking forward to Mega Man IV, next! :)

Game 126 (December 30, 2014): Mega Man IV (GB, 3DS VC) - 4:24
On the "Ugh" side
the replay-all-8-bosses again and 3-form-Dr.-Wily was back again
. On the plus side, it didn't seem that bad this time, though! Like the extra collectible letters in each stage, a few hidden areas making it not 100% linear, and the fact that the bosses default order is the order you should take them in, anyways! :D They needed more breaks at the end for a "portable" game, but it was okay with the 3DS VC and save states (a must for Mega Man games. :p). Glad to have played it. Don't have MMV, but have heard it's even better. I hope it goes on sale, at some point! :)

Going to Start a new list, 1-52 here.

53) Tales of Heart R 35H

I came into this game expecting it to be pretty bad, and wound up really enjoying my time with it. I do like the Tales of series, but I wasn't sure how this handheld was going to fair. Story was typical Tales, but I really liked the cast of characters.

Battle system was good, and there was a dash of puzzles throw into the dungeons. All and all it was just about everything I could ask for from a handheld Tales game.

Additions to the list:

44) Dragon Age: Inqusition
45 hours in and I've finished the main quest, but I still haven't explored every area or done even half of the side quests.

45) Super Smash Brothers Wii U
I'm really terrible at this game, but there's just so much stuff to unlock and it's so much fun that I don't care.

46) Hyrule Warriors
DAAAAAMMMMNNNN I love this game. I always made fun of DW for it's constant releases/re-releases, but I was so wrong. Hyrule Warriors is absolutely one of my favorite games this year, and the fact that it has a Zelda skin makes it even better.

47) Sir, You Are Being Hunted
One of the most tense games I've played this year, which went completely against what I thought it would be based off of the art style. Very interesting game.

Note: I never finished The Force Unleased, so I'm technically at 45 games. When I do my final list, I'll remove it and knock the numbers down, unless I finish it by then.

51. The Evil Within [PS4] – 24.33 hours – finished November 30
I’d had no interest in this game until I learned I could essentially get it from Best Buy for $39 via GCU, and it turned out to be one of my favorite games of the year. Shinji Mikami, the creator of Resident Evil, returns with more challenging survival horror, and it looks and feels great. The locales are many and varied and the weapon customizations and combat mechanics let players tackle enemies in a ton of different ways. I savored every step and clocked a deliciously frightening 24 hours.

52. Resident Evil 4 [Wii] – 21:37:55 – finished December 15
This was my third playthrough of RE4 (first on Gamecube, then PS2), and it’s still one of the greatest games ever. RE4 has a permanent place in my top five, and when push comes to shove, it might just be number one. A quality way to finish my 52 games of the year.

I'm all done stripping so Akiba's Trip U&U has been safely set aside for now! And that means I'm done and free of this challenge! I can play any game I want whenever I want! But... is this really how it ends?

Games Beaten: 52 / 52
Total Playtime: 569 hours, 00 minutes

01 - 33!
34 - 52!

Too bad the gameplay is watered down by a very forgettable plot, bland characters and the need to always power up twice in every stage to reach full throttle.
At the very least there is a cheat code which addresses that! I used it in my playthrough this year an it was neat for skipping a buncha stuff ya normally couldn't and blazing through levels!
