The Order: 1886 Gets New Direct-Feed Screenshots From Obama

Not open for further replies.
Upon closer examination his post did not actual spoil anything we didn't know, just a fact many people glossed over:

Galahad is a code name inherited by the main character. His post said "Galahad has died once" but that's referring to the previous person who had the title, not the guy we know as Galahad from all the trailers. The Order simply replaces its Knights when one of them dies, that's what happened

I feel much better now. Whew.

Leaving the spoilers behind (even if they weren't?), the explosions are beautiful.

Taken from the same leaked retail footage.

As someone who knows this game. He didn't spoil anything. That is basically character history outside of the main game, you guys are fine.

Well I am home now and on a proper keyboard so I can correctly spell, most things anyway and have my lil spoiler tool here.

A few more impressions and points for you ALL spoiler tagged if there is any but I will try and stick to gameplay.

OK where to start.

-A couple of things, before I started as I do with most shooter based games I upped the sensitivity of all aim modes, dont ask why its just something I do. The shooting was sharp and concise. I was started out with the Tesla gun and had to pop off some enemies from distance, since it was anarchy the load time for the charge was too long to pop up and kill enemies quickly so I had to swap to my handgun and boy do the hand guns feel satisfying. They have a similar inaccuracy as TLOU you can wildly aim and flair your gun around but if you take a little more damage you can aim for that headshot which is very satisfying.

-Guns are absolutely littered about the place from dead bodies and ammo drops leading to a style of gameplay I would attribute to a game like TLOU where you will often run low on ammo and pick up a random weapon to get you through to the next area to restock on your main armoury.

-Melee is brutal and satisfying, it lends itself much like Uncharted to weakening enemies and as they recover head in for an incredibly stylish finisher.

-The characterisation is second to none, I cant stress this enough, I felt like there was a proper connection between characters and it is superbly acted. I would go as far as to say this is the closest ive felt to game characters having a genuine connection IN game and IN cinematic....to which many times I didnt realise I was actually controlling my character.

-Sound, my profession is based on sound design, I have done sound for most of my adult life in many jobs. This is pretty close to some of the sharpest and most detailed sound I have heard and It fills me pride that a game like this has such an incredible soundtrack and detail in sound. Its not just the detail of kicking pots recreating a sound and that sound having its own room sound but also the clarity of the sound, where AC:U had some very obvious low bit rate audio this was crystal clear and a joy to the ears.

-BLACK BARS, ive been playing through The Evil Within lately and it can feel cramped in that, in this, im sorry guys, it ads to the cinematic feel and if you are dubious as to the degree of honesty in regards to this game being cinematic it was VERY VERY clear that they always intended this game to be an incredibly cinematic game right down to the point where we were handed The Order official pop corn in our goodie bags. In terms of it effecting gameplay, it was un noticable and I have to say it, I rather enjoyed it.

-The level of detail and sheen runs throughout the game, even the pause screen is classy.

Im just writing up more details from the Q&A.

What's coming?

Oh my god. Please tell me. I can't take it.
The release of the game, obviously? I am sure more and more people will get it as release date draws near which means more potential spoilers all over the interwebs.

As someone who knows this game. He didn't spoil anything. That is basically character history outside of the main game, you guys are fine.
That's a relief.

I think I read something awful.

The timeline spoiler:
from 1886 to present day... please don't mean what I think it means.... fuck. Fucking spoilers goddamn everything shit.

How is that spoilerish ?
Overall, most of the spoilers have to do with the lore more than anything...

Like the fact that there have been more than one Galahad succeeding to one another. And the fact they get a much longer lifetime after drinking the blackwater

This guy posted impressiosn as well:
I work in a retail store.
Today boxes with 1886 came in and I picked one up cuz why the hell not.
I'm buying myself a collector's edition so there's no bad intentions.
I really was waiting for a good action game and here it is.
Graphics are not the best of all time perhaps, but they are lovely.
Smooth framerate through all first 3 hours I've beaten. Not any drops what so ever.
What bothers me is that headshots don't blow heads apart. I haven't got my hands
on a 3-barrel shotgun yet, but a standart shotgun did tore off some legs here and there.

Shooting in this game feels so much right to me. And fighting Lycans is so much fun -
I'm glad they didn't just show it everywhere like anyone else would.
So far my expectations are met quite good. It's a beautiful Gears of War clone,
that I enjoy more than any Gears thanks to its realistic yet fictional weapons and mostly
human enemies.

Some things that may bother people are that the game is quite scripted. It doesn't give you as much freedom as say TLOU gave the player. It's closer to the last COD in that regard. Anyway I hope the game scores good scores and sells well.

If anyone interested - my username is my psn account, you can see there are some trophies already as a proof. And if any of you want - I might record some of the footage like firefights and post them later.
Cheers
.

I read it as:
the game starts in 1886 and goes to present day. That would be a crazy spoiler, wouldn't it?

Good thing I read it wrong.

I really hope it's not too rigid in how scripted encounters feel.

That's one thing that would legitimately undermine a lot of these efforts. A great story is a great story, but if the player's agency doesn't sync up with the character's, or worse yet, the player feels like they're just going through the motions, it can hurt an otherwise high-quality experience.

Q&A :spoilers are spoiler tagged BUT nothing was revealed of events of the game just certain thigns could be interpreted in certain ways. I will tag them of course.

- I wanted to ask about how the game will be continually sold, I mentioned U2,3 as examples of story based games that had MP seemingly tagged on to continually sell the game. Ru was quite up front, there never were plans for any sort of MP including Co-Op he said that the option of story based DLC is completely down to how well the game sells.

- My friend asked about main Movie influences citing that from the trailers we can see
Nikola Tesla acts as Q style character aiding The order
Ru confirmed that Bond is a huge influence on the game and joked that Bond needed saving as a franchise and Casino Royale came along. He mentioned direct homages to Alien and considers Alien as a Horror movie NOT sci-fi, he was very clear on that point.

- Game influences were asked about, personally I get a strong Resident Evil style atmosphere vibe about it but he didnt mention Resi. He said Uncharted 2 had a huge influence on the game AND The Last of Us, he also mentioned how he used to hate games that broke immersion like a transition from game to cinematic and he hated how people could tell the difference in early games and its something the dev team worked tirelessly on as it was his vision. He said the biggest influence on how the story is told is MGS:pSOne he loved as we all did how you always knew there was more to the game, something mysterious about it and how the story was told almost like a mystery. Personally I was eating his words by this point because MGS is my favourite game ever. He said the story telling blew him away.

- Possible hints to gameplay time, not sure, he never referenced it directly BUT in relation to the last point about breaking immersion he said he loved those games you would sit down and finish from start to end and be completely in that world. Something I completely relate to having last done that with TLOU. They didnt want anything to bring you out of that victorian dystopian London. From what I played shortly by hell they have succeeded.

- A nice girl in the crowd was interested in the art of the game and asked about the art book which he reluctantly confirmed.

- A lad near the front asked about possible future entries into the series, now I should probably mention that during his chat, everything he mentioned was delivered with the certainty that this was indeed part one of many. He mentioned something funny, I dont remmeber the exact quote but he wona bloody limited edition statue for being a smart arse. Anyway he didnt confirm different locations or time zones BUT he did say there was a huge over arching story and this particular entry is an extremely important chapter in the story hence us jumping on here. He said theres a bigger picture which he thinks we will love. Ok first minor/major hint at a spoiler here wont give too much away of the details of potential endings but it hinted
that the end of this game will show a glimpse of the bigger picture
to me the whole set up reminds me of a huge movie franchise.

- He was asked by the presenter as to why there was no Co-Op since we have guys running around all the time. He said it didnt make sense to the story they wanted to tell and that it wasnt something they considered from a cinematic point of view. Which playing the game makes sense the combat is extremely intense and close.

- He was asked about foriegn influences by a chap that seemed really into the game but had dragged his GF along, a great question I thought, it was asked as to why they chose the enemies they did. the reason being that thos enemies (not sure if its a spoiler but
warewolfs
) Have been a constant and semi realistic myth throughout all time. They researched Russian, Japanese, Native American, English, Spanish, Eastern myths and one always cropped up and were always similar. The emphasis is on semi realism hence the human element.

- Asked about the Royal family and responded with that they may be alluded to but not involved as characters as apparantly obtaining the rights is harder than approaching Disney- lizards obviously....but other historical figures may be involved and one person asking specifically about Jack the Ripper to which he replied "the great thing about this time is the amount of mystery and characters of the time".

He showed lots of slides of character profiles and told some backstory mentioning two characters involved with spoilergate earlier. He also showed how development started in 2011 and they have been building up until now, 150 GB worth of photos from London and events in the game inspired by visiting the many shit hole pubs and night clubs in London. Seems to be the most authentic representation of gritty London weve seen in games.

I got a classic home feeling from the game, it felt like london which is the biggest complement atmospherically I can give it.

Couple of follow ups:

In regards to timeline, THIS game DOES NOT cover 1886-present day. What Ru was saying is that in order for the franchise to make sense he had to pretty much write the stroy from that period to now and that 1886 is a particularly important time to jump on. Mostly hinting at sequels based in different time periods.

Ru was actually asked about exploritory elements, its a hot topic, everyone wants open world. Well not all of us do, like me. Anyway he mentioned specifically that there were NOT open areas like TLOU but there were different approaches. I found that out myself whilst playing the first demo. You couldnt decide "Oh I wont head in that direction, Ill go the opposite and long way round" but it was up to you how you would progress through that specific area. Such as demo 2, the airship, there was a large open plan room and several options in terms of take the stairs up, hold the bottom floor, swap out for a shotgun and up close and personal to each enemy, hide it out in the upper levels and pick of enemies as they filter through.

Also the slo mo thingy, forget its name was awesome, rmeinded me of Red Dead where you could pick out body parts, things they are carrying so forth. Well balanced too, you can only use it once in an encounter and it has a cool down period. Youll also have a slo mo "last chance" but its triggered manually not too disimilar to Ground Zeroes but harder to use.

Also if you miss and so forth Galahad will become increasingly annoyed with himself.

Also a heads up! tomorrow they will be releasing a video they showed us covering a few things I have mentioned in more detail and Ru having a chat with some historian.

I have to admit, knowing the background of the game has had me even more sold on it.

After I over heard a guy ask about comic-books and anime, Ru said its all possible depending on how well the game sells.

He also mentioned something really weird, almost forgot it.

He said there has been a lot of marketing going on to do with the game that people have not realised and once we play it through it will become clear. Also said expect more of the viral that went out with the puppet things, I never saw it but people seemed to be musing about it.

We should summon detective gaf.

What's the best way to get the steelbook for this if I don't want to get into the crazy statues and what have you from the biggest version of the game ? Is there a way to just have the game and steelbook or is this something I'll have to buy separately later ?

Maybe keep an eye out for them online. I know steelbooks usually pop up on ebay after launch and months after.

But are they priced reasonably if you buy later ? No point if the case alone would run $30 separately if I held off for a little bit. I just don't have the room or the desire for any more statues or artbooks etc and selling them off would be a hassle.

One last thing and I think that will be all. Not sure if this is a spoiler either but ill tag it.

Ru was very clear on hating "good guys, heroes" vs villians, he said its not realistic, people have different motivations and its always best for an audience to believe these are real people in these situations that they must deal with.

Ill tag my immediate opinion on this
I think from the character profiles and this mentioning by Ru that there will be some element of betrayal or double crossing

That stood out to me too. Oh, man if they can create some encounters with lycans reminiscent of Alien...

He mentioned a very very specific scene
where the aliens drool drips on Ripleys shoulder, they put a scene where blood from the warewolfs mouth drips onto the shoulder of a knight
