Holiday Update!

Brett C said:
Greetings coaster friends,

We've only just released Planet Coaster and we hope that you're all having a blast playing the game, but we've already got some big news for you!

Since the festive month of December is soon upon us, we are preparing a special holiday update for you! This free content update will be like an early Christmas present for our beloved community. It's going to be filled with a variety of goodies, of which we'll be sharing the details closer its release time. However, one special feature is something that we want YOU to decide!

You, as a community, get to vote on which new flat ride will be included in this holiday update. We've narrowed your options down to these four, and we can't wait to see which one will be your favourite pick!

  • Classic Ferris Wheel - a theme park trademark, standing 30m tall and holding 20 gondolas.
  • Sizzer - Spinning, suspended grasscutter ride that whips you in every direction!
  • Trihorse - A three-armed, rotating, swinging, and suspended vintage ride, raising its arms up to an angle of 40 degrees.
  • Collider - Retro sci-fi ride with 20 swinging gondolas on a horizontal Ferris Wheel that rises to an angle of 87 degrees.

We're sure Yule love this holiday update and we're looking forward to seeing your choice of ride, I’m sure it'll be a cracker!

You can vote on the forums at the link above... Oh man for me it's between the Classic Ferris Wheel and the Sizzler (which I'm assuming is the Scrambler/Twist ride in the older games?)...

I'm just playing the campaign for now but here are some shots of stuff I've done

I've been working on a River Rapids ride. Half of it is finished including loads of rockwork and a cave, but I'm still trying to figure out what to do with this second half. Here's a WIP:

A friend of mine (fugimax) is building out Hyrule in Planet Coaster, complete with region-appropriate area music. So good!

Built a monorail station for my fantasy area, built it in such a way that I'll be able to copy it and also use it in my Alpine area. Think it went rather well. Not sure if I should build cross-beams to 'fill in' the large squares (in the sections where there is wall, not the open ones) on the portion of the building where the actual station is.

Edit: And actually noticed the street lantern right in front of the entrance queue, forgot to remove that when I moved the path :D. The planter as well :p

Edit: Corrected screenshot:

My god, this game is so damn fantastic.

I'm pretending that my towns in Cities Skylines are sending their poor unsuspecting citizens to their doom on my nightmare vomit rollercoaster in Planet Coaster.

One thing I would really like is a way to tell what rides are already on your park.

Like a checkmark in the menu next to the ride would be nice.

Tomorrow im going to record a tour through the aprk and also upload it to the workshop. Glad I could insih it after so many hours fixing it and finsihing the roman part.

Everybody's parks looks amazing... looks like Frontier did a great job with the game.

I'm going to keep an eye out for a discount for this and Parkitect.

It seems like this is the pick of the bunch from all the theme park sims on Steam (No Limits, Roller Coaster Tycoon World, Theme Park Studio)?

I added hte River Run ride from the workshop and the liens for it vastly outnumber the other rides I've put in

ignore my flat boring ass park. I'm pretty sure I'm going to start a new one.

Holy crap, I just discovered the "Duplicate & Advanced Move" (Ctrl + X) tool. Incredibly useful for speeding up repeating patterns or long stretches of similar things, like baseboards.

Here's a sandbox park I've been working on. Still very early with only two themed areas, but there's five rides in place, including an inverted coaster, and a few shops/buildings. I like what I've done with the queue for the coaster, it snakes through the terrain to create a creepy and foreboding feeling before guests board the ride.

After building several coasters nobody entered, I tried again last night.

Made a pretty standard coaster with two loops etc and after finishing I did a test again. Without any smoothing it got a 6 excitement rating, 2ish fear rating and 1ish nausea rating! Finally a coaster people actually ride.

That's a really neat carousel build. I'm always amazed at how good hedge-lined queues look. I just wish there was an easier way to create them.

I should never have opened this thread, as now I'll be sucked into yet another time destroying game while my giant backlog beckons...

Oof, underground stuff is really hard work, even with tegidcam.

Yep, I was originally going to do sort of a cave entrance for my sci-fi park then after feeling like losing all my progress trying to make it bigger because none of my paths were fitting I just gave up.

Robot dog head was manning the entrance but we made some changes for the better
sadly she doesnt animate

I downloaded a giant robot animatronic from the workshop and that got me thinking about what needs to be added to the workshop by somebody

With the artshapes that could actually be SUPER easy to do. Being really big makes it even possible for it to look exactly the same, just as if it was done on a normal 3d program

There's a lot of work yet to be done, but nonetheless, here's some choice screens from my park, Exotica Falls.

The idea behind this park is that it's set in Central America, where four factions each dominate their own sections of the park. The entrance, which I neglected to take any screens of for this post, is supposed to be a British colony of sorts.

Going straight west from the hub takes us to Ejotica, a highly advanced Mesoamerican city. The architecture and technology here is supposed to reflect the leaps and bounds that this society's greatest thinkers made over the course of its history. Naturally, this is where the most seemingly-high tech rides at the park appear. Most popular are the inverted coaster Golden Flight, whose station is one of those advanced pyramids you see, and the flat ride Gears of Fear.

Moving north brings us to Dragon's Reef, a valley inhabited by dragon and dragon worshipers. These worshipers are defectors from both the British colony and from Ejotica, and the architecture here is much more European than Ejotica as a result. This park boasts two rollercoasters, the junior coaster Draco Jr. and the currently lackluster hybrid coaster Quetzal, as well as the underground dark ride Dragon's Den, which I teased a few posts back.

Finally, the eastern half of the park is largely taken by Atlantico, a pirate-themed area. The idea here is that pirates visiting the area ended up forming a cult around a terrible beast called De'Nu'Vo, and the central attraction of the area, Ruins of De'Nu'Vo, is a river rapids rapid where riders get to confront the beast himself. It's probably the most popular ride at the park. The other screenshot shows some work in progress of another park of this land, where the idea is that a pirate fort and a British fort are in combat and guests can view the battle from either fort.

As you can probably see, a lot of this was done thanks to wonderful folks on the Steam Workshop, and there is still plenty of work to be done. I have to add a wild mouse coaster to Ejotica, I have to flesh out parts of Atlantico, and I have to seriously get to work on the British fort.

Update tomorrow and a drawing for a new gaming PC:

Hi everyone,

Hope you’re all enjoying Planet Coaster, we have a couple of cool announcements for you!

Firstly, tomorrow (Thursday) we have a new update ready which includes bug fixes, further optimisations, inclusion of new blueprints, and an exciting new ‘Harder’ challenge mode where you’ll have to be even more creative and innovative to keep your park running smoothly. We’re excited to see how well you will fare in this new challenge!

Secondly, we have set up an all-new competition. To celebrate Thanksgiving we’re giving thanks to our amazing community who have given us so much support. Think you can finish all Scenarios with three stars? Well, you now have even more incentive to do so: we are giving away THREE HIGH-END GAMING PCs at the end of this amazing competition!

Starting now, you have 14 days to gather as many Scenario stars as possible. Every star you get will then earn you ONE entry for the sweepstake in which we’ll give away these awesome prizes – so if you get 14 stars, you’ll get 14 entries; simple!

All you have to do to make sure you enter the sweepstake, is fill out this Google Form with your name, your email address, and your Steam ID. Your Steam ID is needed so that we can generate the amount of stars/entries you’ve earned when the competition draws to a close. You can find your Steam ID by going to your Steam profile page on the website or Steam client, and copy the long number sequence in the URL. Alternatively you can visit https://steamrep.com/ and follow the instructions there. Please note this is NOT your username.

This special Thanksgiving competition will end on December 7, 2016, at 10AM GMT. We will then verify the number of stars on all valid entries and this will be the number of sweepstake entries for that person. You won’t need to tell us in how many stars you’ve gained or wait till the end of the competition. Simply register on the form now and we will find your number of stars at the closing date. After that, we will announce the three lucky winners!

So what are you waiting for? Simply register on the form, get yourselves into Planet Coaster, and start collecting those stars! They could earn you a fantastic prize!

Terms and Conditions

• The competition will end on December 7, 2016 at 10AM GMT.
• At this time, Frontier will check all valid participants and assign a number of entries into the sweepstake for each participant based on the number of stars accumulated from Career mode.
• Three winners will be picked and each participant can only win one prize.
• The prize will be a Personal Computer or store vouchers to be redeemed at a retailer to the value of £2,000. If retail or store vouchers are offered, the choice of retailer will be decided on by Frontier Developments.
• Frontier staff are not eligible to enter this competition.
• Stars and achievements gained before the competition start date are also valid.
• Only people who submit their Steam ID correctly on the form will be entered into the competition.
• You may only enter the competition once per Steam ID.
• Winners will be drawn via a sweepstake on December 7, 2016.
• Winners will be contacted via the contact email submitted on the entry form.
• Winners will be required to respond back within 7 days of the email being sent, otherwise they will forfeit the prize and a new winner will be selected.
• Frontier Developments reserve the right to remove any entry or winner from the competition, at their sole discretion, should they deem the entry to be invalid for any reason. This includes (but is not limited to) cheating, breach of competition rules, or misuse of the competition mechanics.

FANTASTIC path tutorial for all of you struggling (me included!). Explaining and lot of things I didn't know about.
Super helpful, make sure to check it out.

On a side-note - I absolutely adore that the janitors whistle the soundtrack every now and then :D

The people in this thread are so talented. I like to click on it every day just to marvel at what people have made. Bravo to you all! I'm really excited to see what the future of this game brings and for the day that I have a computer powerful enough to play it.

I agree...its pretty mind blowing. When I play these types of games my parks end up being so basic, not sure if its my lack of creativity or laziness..probably a bit of both. I wish I had the skills and patience to create something like these

This is what turns me off buying this game tbh....I just know my parks will look nothing liek this and be simple parks with simple paths and I'll get bored of it very quickly.

So, now that the game is out for a while : is it worth it for someone that likes to play levels, and move on to the next one after completing the challenges? Not interested in making one big park or spending a lot of time customizing stuff.

There aren't a ton of "levels" right now. I do hope they add the ability for people to create their own challenge maps - mainly do the landscaping and Terraforming and then another player tries to make a park from that canvas. The challenges that pop up in that mode are cool to incentivise differing your style, but always starting with a flat area every time makes it wear thin.

Vied for a tag related to cocks, so here it is.
I'm not so good at starting out on challenge mode, what's the best way to get started? My guests keep complaining there aren't enough rides, maybe I should just focus on getting rides out rather than designing/getting other facilities in place until they're requested?

Right now I'm also assuming all these fancy parks are designed in sandbox mode?

Yeah, I've been thinking about that, too. I think I COULD make something beautiful, but I don't know if I want to put in the time. And then, when I inevitably don't, I'll look at my basic park and remember all these gorgeous examples and feel bad. Haha.

Once I get a capable computer, I think I'll buy the game to mess around with the possibilities and just to support the makers of this game who are enabling these creatives to create such stunning work.

I will probably wait for a while then until there is a bit more content on this front.

Ok, still working on the same area. Mostly because I learn new things all the time and keep improving on what I have. That is especially true for paths. Right now I am adding custom surface to all my paths..which takes ages of course :p

So here are some updated progress shots:
