What is the game about?

Blackwood Crossing is a story-driven first-person adventure game. A haunting tale of intrigue and mystery.

You play as Scarlett, a teenager finding her way in the world. You wake up, disorientated, to find yourself and your younger brother, Finn, inexplicably traveling on a moving train.

But when a mysterious figure appears, it's clear that this is no ordinary train ride. It's the beginning of a magical voyage, steeped in life, love and loss.

Navigating this powerful drama – where the world, and your abilities develop in extraordinary ways – you are forced to examine your relationship with Finn. You are orphans, and your relationship has always been strong. However, adolescence has opened the door to new interests, and you've been growing apart.

As you gradually uncover the depths of Finn's anguish, the consequences of your remoteness become shockingly clear.

Who made the game?

Blackwood Crossing is made by PaperSeven, an independent development studio in Brighton, UK. The studio was set up in 2011, by a team of games veterans from AAA studio, Black Rock Studio.

The senior team has over 50 years' development experience – from AAA console, to the world of Mobile F2P, and now back to premium titles on Console and PC. The studio is now pretty much 100% focused on developing its own IP, and all the excitements that brings with it!

We feel like Blackwood Crossing is the studio's first ”grown up" game, and we're suitably proud parents!

PlayStation Universe 9.0/10
Heart wrenchingly beautiful and emotionally exhausting, Blackwood Crossing is a game that will be on your mind for days.

TheXboxHub 4.5/5
Sometimes a game can emotionally move you in such a way that it makes you feel that the game was made especially for you. Sometimes a game makes choices to tug at your heartstrings, rather than make your heart go faster. Sometimes a game flies in the face of what is conventional and in doing so makes something truly original.

God is a Geek 8.5/10
It has been a while since a game has moved me as much as Blackwood Crossing did in its final act. Brighton based Paper Seven's narrative driven first person game explores themes of grief and guilt in a remarkably effective tale, told through the the perspective of Scarlett and her younger brother, Finn.

MondoXbox 8.5/10

Brash Games 8/10
To find a game that moves you to such a degree as Blackwood Crossing is a rare treat, one that should be seized right away. A brave and unique concept packaged with a story that is equal parts whimsical, sombre and poignant.

Hardcore Gamer 3/5
Blackwood Crossing begins with the promise of a fantastic and emotional journey, and provides one from beginning to end when it comes to a terrific story, but in terms of gameplay, the journey ends well before we can even take a stroll to the dining car or the like.

Push Square 6/10
It's hard to dislike Blackwood Crossing. It makes a valiant attempt at telling a tender story in an unconventional way, and for that its developers absolutely deserve credit. Unfortunately, its attempts largely fall flat. There are some striking visual and auditory moments to be sure but they don't make up for the predictable narrative and spotty voice acting.
