Worst Female Character Design in Gaming?

Ugh. The designs of females in Xenoblade Chronicles are just SO bad. It kept me from enjoying the game honestly. Just armour set after set of boob windows, bikinis etc etc. So strange because the actual characters themselves are pretty fantastically written.

Fiora's is so annoying, like her "body" isn't even human? But no worries, she's still got boobs to show off at every opportunity.

sharla-trio.jpg

Also come on. Sharla is a Healer, so why is the emphasis always on her chest? What's worse is that the same armour sets on male characters COVER THEM COMPLETELY. LIKE ARMOUR SHOULD. You know, for like protecting?

Xenoblade X did so much better, but it seems like Xenoblade 2 will be reverting back to the series roots.

Like this. This is an abomination. She literally looks deformed.

Every so often I will see someone comment on how Xenoblade has great art direction, and I wonder if they have ever seen any of Sharla's outfits. Especially the ones where the entire crotch area has magically dissolved except for a string bikini, as if that's a kind of clothing that anyone ever wears. It's not even the sexualization, or the casual sexualization (if you're going to have her wear "sexy" stuff for the male gaze, at least make it look like she has intent), it's how far the designers were willing to go out of their way (and out of the way of common sense) just to show her panties for no reason.

And that's not even getting into how mixing and matching armor pieces causes the worst kind of style clashing.

It isn't just the usual anime Otaku pander. It isn't just the stripperiffic outfit.

It's the little bulge on skin under the string on the hip that makes it that much more skeevy. :/ Gotta make sure we know it's really tight.

Pyra's design is legitimately bad even for a stripperiffic otaku pandering outfit.

Some would argue that she always looked a bit like a vagina anyway

(But seriously, wasnt that camel toe a bug? Only one specific outfit has it)

If I remember right that outfit was part of a DLC so I can see it getting overlooked. (If you look at the texture it's hard to spot because it's just generic shading that got mirrored in a way that made it...well...you get the idea. It's very easy that people missed it, especially if they weren't doing much more than basic ingame tests of the model. (I didnt notice it until people started pointing it out on like my third playthrough. I think people just didnt use that outfit as much as the black one because it looked too much like miranda and the black one fit the team a bit better)

This is what i'm talking about, an expression between robots who have no genitalia but bond with each other emotionally. I'm talking about the actual subject matter, you know, people actually having sex, not being unable to do so, not a metaphor, actual displays of it.

Sex is psychological too though.

And trying to do a thing but being unable to do so or understand the context of it is such a big theme for the game.

Dark Suit - Metroid Prime 2

Now this design is not even in the same stratosphere of awfulness that every other design in this thread is, but I've gotta say that the dark suit is my least favorite suit in the entire franchise. The brown, grey and red color scheme, the overly large shoulders, the weird indents and red circles, they just don't work well together IMO. It looks way worse than the light suit, the varia suit, and even the PED suit.

The bolded just reminded me again of how good the game is, jesus. It's always hard for me to add a game to my "Top 10" of all time and Nier Automata easily claimed a spot.

This is so much worse it's not even funny.

Eh, I think it's more so disappointing than bad. I for one actually like other m's sleeker varia suit (although I still prefer the somewhat bulkier prime 2 and 3 designs), so there's something about this design that I actually like, even if it's just a varia suit with a purple aura. Besides, I don't think it was ever actually considered a full suit in other M, just a "feature" of the varia suit.

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.

I actually meant the varia suit.
It's shite in that game, the picture doesn't properly show the garish color they chose to puke on the suit.
And even then I wouldn't choose it for this thread.
For this thread, the zero suit from the same game is more relevant.
The zero suit in general is shite though.

Absolutely awful design. I get that rocksteady is trying to go for a dark, gritty, and realistic artstyle but I don't know how giving Ivy some pants goes against this. I understand that there's always been a sexual undertone to the character, but I still think this is a bit much.

What I expected coming into this thread: Quiet, Ivy, Tales of Bersaria girl, the usual women in combat wearing things no women in combat have business wearing

What I'm seeing now: People criticizing Lara Craft and Makoto for not being playboy bunnies

At least it's good for building the ignore list.

What I'm saying is that the way REAL HUMAN GIRLS dress these days (not all of them of course, I'm not going to generalize like some people) is more of a worry and more disrespectful then a fucking video game character in a video game that is already fantasy.

I'm not offended by fucking Ryu being a buff sexy motherfucker, it all goes back to sexy design does not mean a bad design.

Girls can be sexy as hell and there is nothing wrong with that, they can also be ”homely" or less sexy in the normal sense of the word and that's fine. Guys don't have to be buff and manly to be attractive either.

Sexy doesn't make a character good or bad, as generally the character isn't defined by their design. Quiet is a bad character because she's a bad character, who cares that she is wearing a bikini. I feel like I'm in a Polygon article comment section.

I'm not going full fucking anything.

There are tons of good Western designs and shit Western designs, just like there are plenty of shit Eastern designs along with the good. Plenty have been posted here in this same thread.

What I'm saying is that people like to dismiss sexy designs as bad because they are sexy.
I have not meant to disrespect any females in this thread but my point still stands that designs aren't automatically bad if they are sexy. I apologize if I have offended any females.

Yes then let's let women complain and not men. Women don't need SJWs to defend them, they have equal rights, they can defend themselves.

If people are going to complain about sex and fetishized designs why do people only bring up females? Why not bring up males? I know there are a lot more female designs that fall that direction but still.

People can call me biased all they want but the majority of the conversation is biased from the other side as well.

Video games are for entertainment, let people be entertained by what they like to be entertained by.

I'm out either way, This thread has turned into more arguing then designs anyway.
If you wanted to build up your gaming character fap folder you are probably better suited on the NSFW boards on 4chan

lmao

"Nothing wrong with video games making girls sexy, what's wrong with a little sexuality in the female characters? Also, it's really troubling how girls are dressing like sluts nowadays, very disrespectful. Also you're all SJW cucks if your offended by female video game characters."

After reading my quoted posts I'm not seeing this as an unfair paraphrasing of his posts. It's a pretty accurate summation.

A game can have great art direction in some places and not in others.

Yeah.... and so is Quiet

Also, Quiet is apparently supposed to be taken seriously as a character. MGS, despite its goofy moments, deals with serious themes like child soldiers, government abuses, war and poverty, sexual violence, and so on. Throwing blatant, juvenile T&A in there makes it worse than a cartoony anime boobs in a game full of cartoony nonsense.
It sounds like you have a bigger problem with Metal Gear in general.

MGS has always been pretty odd with its tone. Yeah, Quiet is goofy and dumb, but she hardly compares to the silly nonsense in previous games. This is a series that tries to make you think seriously about its war economy crap and the dangers of technology, but it also has a monkey that prances around and drinks cola.

Yeah, Quiet's design and her antics undermine the more serious story beats. But that has always been a Metal Gear thing.

I thought Naomi in MGS4 running around the whole time without a bra and her breasts hanging out was far crazier. Quiet is a weirdo parasite thing. Naomi is supposed to this respectable scientist and essential key character to the story. Yet, MGS4 expects you to take her far more seriously than MGSV ever does for Quiet, It was very dumb.

The design is cool, her face just looks terrible.

Same design in Knight, better face, and she looks way better.

Wait a beat, are there people in this thread honestly insinuating that nier automata's designs are in any way "worst in gaming"?

What?

Their designs aren't even about fighting or sex at all. Its about
Using religious iconography to further an agenda. The reason the YoRHa are designed with Gothic cloths and are conventionally beautiful is because they are supposed to be analogues for angels.
Beings who come from above to fight against the evil scourge, as they fight for what all their other kind believes in: god (or in this case, humanity). The reason they are in black trimmed white and not pure white clothing is supposed to be a metaphor for how the what they are doing is a shame, they aren't real in their mission, and aren't some pure angelic beings but instead a lie to calm the remaining android population. Seriously contrast the other android designs to 9S or 2B. (and before you ask about the commander, i'm pretty sure she is supposed to be a sort of Metatron and thus supposed to symbolize an even higher angel that is pulling the strings of the lower angels as "the voice of god (humans)

either people who are saying these are the worst designs don't get context and metaphors, or they have their heads so far up their asses that they can't see meaning beyond "sexy cloths = sexualized"

Leaf panties get even smaller in Arkham Knight, as well as bigger breasts and wider hips. The majority of the character designs for women in the arkham games are always at best disappointing.

Probably this one from Warrior Within. I still have no idea why the devs thought this would be a good idea. It's one of the worst designs I've ever seen.

Quiet is without saying.

Bayonetta has an interesting idea for a design, but a shitty idea for the "being naked when fights" and it only gets worst when she has short hair in the sequel.
But only design ... it is a cool "leather drag queen" thing she has.

So my votes beyong her are :

Quiet looks fucking awesome. Kind of a lame character though.

Any who, Maria from Castlevania Judgment is so real shit.

I always thought Code of Princess's was pretty bad as well, which is shame as I liked her art in 999.

These two are more because of contrast ... castlevania had awesome designs and Kinu Nishimura did awesome stuff when she can. Hell, even Code of Princess have MUCH better designs of women like

Awesome mix of Nun and heavy weapon ! Needs a little more armor below the waist =P

Code:
[IMG]http://i.imgur.com/MFML1Xk.jpg[/IMG]

It has an interesting top, it is a very awesome mix of desert wear and thief/ninja and I love how rare is a short hair/flat character that is not going for little girl or basicaly a man.
Love the keys

And Solange is basically

7wU7R4x.jpg

Belongs in this thread...

The most literal version of this while actually trying to do SOME armor.

Anyway, my answer is Haydee:
maxresdefault.jpg

I bought the game and no regrets. And while the mod section has some incredible models (like 2B) and recently also modded maps, I am always surprised when I see breast enlarger mods. Or the pubic hair option. 10/10

This is part of a BIGGER problem ... it ALMOST get the onechambara/Xtreme Volleyball/Senrar excuse but it tries to be too serious to feel extra creepy.

Thrash tier.

It's the worst. It's tacky decision on top of tacky decision. I try not to be too shallow, but I was so aesthetically turned off by the game in the demo that I never gave the final release a shot.

Given the wealth of options, I can't believe there are people saying reboot Lara Croft is one of the worst female character designs. Come on guys...

People are still saying the same things because it's still a problem.

Add me to the list of people who prefer this:

to this:

And believe it or not but it's got fuck all to do with her polygonal tits, believe what you want. It's more to do with the fact that she's got a highly distinguishable and unique silhouette that's unique to her, her color pallet is more striking and original looking, and personality wise she's got sass and style. Original Lara is fucking awesome and I miss her. This new one I do actually like, but I prefer the original Lara.

So disappointed in this thread's start...

"She has some stuff that is cool" seems to be the standard for what's good design rather than actual mastery of shape language.

Quiet's design is amazing.

Sexualized = / = badly designed.
If the character looks great with clothes or armor on, then it's a good design in my book.

Chun Li in SFV looks great regardless of what she's wearing.
In MvC, nothing can save her.

Nah, it's the worst. Most of the designs in this thread are competent on some level (which explains their popularity). In general, the designs that get threads made about them are in games with enough production value to limit how bad they can be. You have look deep in the mobile kusoge market to find the really bad stuff. Or find something that manages to look like Jet Force Gemini in '10s, anyway.
