Sorcery announced for MOVE [S-CONF]

This demo may have sold me on the Move as well. I was pretty impressed with it. It's not really the setting I would choose, but I sort of liked the art style and quirkiness of the demo. If I pick up Move I'll get this game for sure, unless it turns out poor.

Thought pretty much the same, not really my ideal setting but looked like good fun, will pick it up if I get Move.

Is this not available on the show floor? Hopefully some outlets will get some hands on time with it. And maybe some interviews with the developer. I want to know what the release window is and if this is Alpha or Beta code.

Yea, not a lot of info out there about it. Kinda annoying. Maybe more news will trickle out later.

This looks so good, the contorls looks like they work well I am getting a Move for this and other games of course. Also I hope you can make you onw character.

Btw love how each magic spells have different motions.

Leave it to the new and undiscovered guys to show off motion controls better than anyone else at the conference. Great initial demo.

The effortless way of him making a wall of fire + whirlwind combo sold me completely. That's the kind of immersion I want. With a year of work likely ahead for it, I see this being polished a shit ton - especially considering the probable good, positive buzz around it. Throw some more cash at these new guys Sony! I smell potential talent.

yeah, sony must've saw something special in this game/dev to give them actual demo time during the show
when there were so many other well known candidates to choose from

I can't wait to see more of this game.

An action RPG with this gameplay would be awesome. The games responded perfectly, the combination of spells was great and graphically was good too.

I don't know, something like Fable combined with what we saw would be fantastic.

When I saw the title I was expecting a really shitty game, but after seeing that presentation I believe that this could be a great game. This has been one of the biggest E3 surprises for me

instead of pausing the game and select element type. can't they use voice recognition to automatically change the element?

anyway, the demo looks cool. my only worry right now is how they're controlling the camera, and the combat so far have the main character stand still while casting magic spell. I hope we'll be able to run around and maybe even have a dodge roll button or something. I want the battle to be more dynamic and not just stand and flicking wand.

the potential is huge. the mixing potion stuff can be expanded to proper alchemy system. mixing hp and mp potion. they already have idea for transformation, that can lead to puzzles and exploration.

spell types can be expanded to more than just element spell so far, I'll be watching this game. hopefully it turns out great.

Anyone know how these things planned to be bundled exactly? Don't tell me they're going to sell this disc standalone only, as there has to be a bundle.. And they can't put a single wand with the disc because this game requires the Nav as well.. at that point you might as well throw in a camera too and there's your alternative bundle (i'd very much rather have this than sports whatever).

You don't really need the navigator. A regular controller will work with Move.

I downloaded the E3 press conference from PSN to show my wife this game and being able to watch it in good quality really shows how impressive the MOVE is.

The thing that blows me away is the layering of the spells that he could do with the controller without the game getting confused by his actions. For instance when he gets the fire makes a line and then in one continued motion spins it and points at the guys there seems to be no lag or moment when he is pausing and starting and pausing and starting to make sure the game will recognize his next movement. It just looks like he is playing the game. Now the only Wii M+ I have played is Red Steel 2 at my nephews and I never felt I had that kind of control. I can't give a overall comment of the MOVE vs Wii M+ but it seems way more advanced to me.

You're telling me they're going to advertise that shit? It's ridiculous, most people will want to buy the Nav. It should be $20, hopefully they get price drops all around (bundle specifically).

Yeah, not only did the lack of lag impress me, but the gestures were crazy. He literally drew a line in front of him for fire, or spun the move like a lasso to create the whirlwind.

Granted i'm sure he's holding a specific 'perform' button or something like that, but either way it's impressive.

Voice recognition is overrated when it comes to gaming, not only would it be an annoyance but no matter what it wouldn't be immediate. I don't want to be running around repeating a word or waiting for it to get it. Just not worth the trouble imo, as I wouldn't even use it. :p

I really wish this was a launch title. Most impressive motion game I've seen yet.

Yeah it looks great. I can't believe I am in the "MOVE" camp after how much I panned it last year. After six-axis I lost a lot of faith in anything motion controlled with Sony.

This looks really good. The fit of playing with your wand, if you'll excuse the expression, just works.

Hope there's plenty of exploration too.

I think that's been one of the more obvious improvements of the tech since even last year. When I saw the first move demos last E3 the first thing that struck me was that the tracking could be long, complex and uninterrupted. I guess that there's an external observer (for xyz) + maybe better sensors inside (for orientation) means that for all intents and purposes the issues and limitations of 'resetting' can disappear perhaps. And that would be a big improvement and would definitely - if the game took advantage - go a long way toward promoting the feeling of really, solidly, being connected to what's happening on the screen. Of the controller being very robustly connected to whatever it is you are manipulating.

I really like it but they could have done a better job presenting the character instead of just a generic kid with a magic wand, so much potential, they have their version of Harry Potter right in their hands and I'm not sure if they're fully capitalizing on it.

Yeah if the tech is good enough to make me stop thinking about holding the controller exactly right or orienting it so the game can pick it up and just play the game I think it will be a huge win for MOVE.

Yeah they said it's a Spring 2011 release game. Will buy it if it turns out good though.

SONY seriously needs to get the ICE team on this bitch... Its the best thing I have seen at E3 in terms of motion controls.

Just imagine a Diablo clone where you do magic, bow and arrow and sword 1:1.

You can tell this game needs help with funding and a bigger team.

I agree with all of this, this game was the best surprise of E3 for me. ICE team help these guys.

So is this even at E3 2011? I've searched and can't find anything.

EDIT: And sorry to bump an old thread but thought better to do that than start a new one.

If it is, it's in closed doors as no one has said a word on it.

I don't think it's been canned, but I imagine they've given the game a budget, and plan on no longer making it Move required.

Edit: Funny thing, there was a PSone game by SCEA called Sorcery that also had a very rough development history that ended up in cancellation.

ARISE FROM YOUR GRAVE!

Anyways, yeah, not sure what's going on with this. Even though Sony showed Move stuff at the conference I really get the feeling they are almost done with Move.

I think it will stay Move only actually, they know it got very positive reception, so I assume the expand the scope of the game and make it bigger. originally, it might start of as a small scale Move game like Dedmund's quest, the good buzz it receive make them reconsider and try to make it big.

Holy shit.

Yea, I was disappointed it wasn't shown.

This was pretty much the only reason I was planning on buying a Move last year. Bit sad that this was overlooked and we got shown that '' NICE JOB JEREMY'' bullshit instead.

This game better by alive, it's my most look froward to MOVE game by a mile and a half. In fact, besides maybe Skyward Sword, I can't think of a game that makes better use of motion technology. Period.

And it WASN'T ON RAILS!!!!!

For me that was also 100% the reason but it seems that buying a move has to wait longer.

I asked Shuei Yoshida via twitter if the game still exist and he gave a positive answer. It's not a lot, but a least it seems that the game hasn't been canceled.

You should have asked him about where the hell are SCEE games.

Anyway, good news, it's still the only Move game that is interesting .

Real shame it wasn't demo'ed this year. It would've have been the best motion game of E3 since it's the only game not on rails.

Probably at GamesCom.

I'm glad we have another big event every year, but GamesCom conferences are just not the same :\

Sony's choice to announce major things at that event is annoying :(

From what I hear, SCEE want to use Gamescom as their preferred conference for announcements. They'll still reveal things outside of the conference etc, but for things like Killzone Vita, Quantic Dreams games, DONTNOD Entertainment, Studio London etc, I think Gamescom will be the place to be.

Hopefully they stream the conference this year. If there is a price cut for the PS3, I'd imagine it would get announced there too.

I get the feeling that Sony was shocked by how much every one seemed to love it last year, and asked the developers to go back to the drawing board.

Sony may want this to be their Zelda so they may be making the game a lot more meatier

That's what I think too. I think we'll see a bigger area of play, more spells, a better variety of enemies etc. Santa Monica are overseeing Sorcery.

yup, I got that feeling too. without last year positive reception, Sorcery might as well be another Dedmund's Quest

This.

Wasn't LittleBigPlanet supposed to be a PSN title at first, too?
Until they showed it and everyone got all crazy excited about it.

Gamescom, obviously.

NA games in E3. EU games in GC. JP games in TGS.

Makes sense.

That's pure speculation, but it sure would be nice. I'm pretty happy with Medieval Moves as it's basically an extension of all that was proven good with Sports Champions, so if that's Sony's action game stand-by while they make Sorcery something special then I'm all for it. Sorcery is also kind of Richard Marks' baby (it uses the gestures he's been playing with for years now on EyeToy, now the killer app for his PS Eye/Move technology) so it'd be a tribute if this game was all it could be.

By the way, there's something that could be a chunk of a screenshot of Sorcerey (or just art? or nothing related at all?) on the developer's web page:

http://www.theworkshop.us.com/ie7games.htm
Sorcery-Developer_art-or-shot.jpg

The staff is lead by old Treyarch guys (and not Grey Matter guys, if it matters, we're talking old-school Treyarch "Die By The Sword / NFL2k / Spiderman 2+3" guys.) So, that's likeable.

I sent the head developers a message on facebook urging them to take the game to a higher step and use the PlayStation Eyes built in microphone for voice control w/voice recognition.

I suggested that being able to say a spell would go a lot further, but they never responded to me.

I would agree with you, but...Zelda.
Still, it would have been a hell of a lot better than Medievil Moves.

Not really. The world's eyes are on E3 more than any other games event. If you've got a big game to sell and a worldwide audience in mind, it makes sense to show it at E3.

Definitely a placeholder. Games are almost never released on that date.
I strongly doubt this game is coming this year.
