I first expected to see more appearances from older 3DS games after the pricedrop since people i guess that people would pick up some games as well when buying the hardware. Also with Star Fox, when Star Fox drops out of the Top 40 after just 4 weeks, i wonder how other 3DS games will do. Granted, Star Fox is probably not a HUGE franchise, but it is one of the few good/great 3DS games that are out so far, so i though that more people would want it when the other 3DS software selection is fairly limited.

Sure, it can and most likely will contunie to improve, but to what level? I'm just not confident enough right now that 2-3 games will be enough to make the 3DS rise to DS level. I'm not trying to sound like a negative nelly hehe, but it is just a thought i had on the situation that i wanted to share. But as i said, it is just a guess from me and i'm actually hoping that i'm wrong.

The thing with Starfox is, is that it relys on a certain amount of story telling, voice acting and cinematics. It is patently obvious it is not an ideal candidate for handheld gaming.

I can only speak as a gamer, that I'd buy a 720p/1080p remake of Starfox 64 on Wii U (even at full price). I'm not going to buy it on a handheld with a tiny 3.5" screen and inferior controls. That is not why I buy a dedicated handheld for.

I'm pretty sure this is why Starfox is a dying franchise.

I dont agree with the bolded part because a lot of RPGs have sold really well on handheld, and those games are very story telling/driven. Also games like Layton are big success despite having much story elements to them. Even some of the best selling PSP games (the two God of War games for example) are very cinematic/story telling games.

Some of these games might be better suited for consoles with bigger screens indeed, but these games can also definitely sell well on handheld as well :)

These people picked up Zelda, being the sole marquee game of the system.

Star Fox is in fact a really small franchise in the UK. SF64 3D actually performed significantly better in the all formats top 40 (#9 -> #13 -> #35) than the last two installments, Star Fox Command (DS) which never charted and Star Fox Assault (GC) which charted once at #23. Outside of launch games, I can think of little precedence for minor games growing much more than that solely by virtue of being one of few good games. I don't think a price drop makes new owners buy games they most likely wouldn't have bought even if they had already owned the system in the first place.

What is "DS level" exactly? A steady presence in the charts? The system needs a steady supply of support to manage this, and a very important source of such a supply comes from succeeding in the Japanese market (as Japanese publishers generally take handhelds more seriously than western ones), something that the 3DS now thanks to 2-3 selected games has a very positive outlook of doing.

If they are only interested in one game (Zelda) for the system, then i can understand why they dont buy more games.

Yep, that it preforms similar to the DS, since people say "this is what happened to the DS" and that it can happen to the 3DS as well. I assume that they mean that the 3DS will preform as the DS when they say this at least.

In Japan the situations has changed indeed. But will 2-3 games be enough in Europe (and US)? That is where my confident is not so strong right now. But we'll see, it might change over the next few months.

What I'm saying is that the success in Japan that these 2-3 games will likely play a big part in, could lead to the steady supply of games it needs to get a DS like presence in the charts, both in Japan and the west.

Regardless, DS was ball lightning in a bottle and matching it will be a very tall order for any system in the foreseeable future.

In Japan for sure (or at least 99% sure), but i have a feeling that most of that support will be mostly Japan oriented, as those games will mostly be sellers in the japanese market. I hope you're right though, only time will tell.

Yup, this is certainly the danger. A Nintendo handheld seeing a certain amount of success in Japan was never in doubt.

The big question is will the Western public part ways with their Japanese counterparts and reject handheld gaming in favour of other gaming options? I can certainly see a situation where dedicated gaming, having fragmented this generation, fragments even further next generation between East and West, handheld and console, mobile and tablets.

The biggest third party franchises in the UK for the DS, Layton and Cooking Mama, both originated in Japan. In fact, I'm looking at a UK sales awards list (from June 2010) for DS and all 11 600k+ sellers are Japanese in origin.

I hope that you're right and that these games are still as strong in the UK as they were before. Time will tell if these two games/franchises will bring much 3rd party support to the 3DS in the west.

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free

Edit: Is the German release date really two weeks earlier than the UK? Amazon.uk say October 14th, Amazon.de already have it for sale.

Bah, EU charts are such a joke... it's always FIFA (insert year), PES (insert year), Zumba Fitness (insert version), (insert car/racing game), (insert sports game + year), and maybe a couple of actual games along the lines. Spain (where I live) is even worse.

Thanks for posting, everything is about where it was expected, so it's probably legit. I would expect someone on 2ch with Famitsu to have disputed them if they were false.

Deus Ex sales are suspicious, but that's what 2ch have.
Do we have previous months percentage tables also.. just to know how the percentages are changing over the course of months (> 6 months) between platforms

MCV don't always publish those every month, I'm not sure whether they have or not this year though. August was a pretty low month where PC seemed to suffer less than other platforms.

2010 UK Software Units:

ALL - 62.9M (100%)
360 - 18.2M (28.9%)
PS3 - 13.8M (21.9%)
WII - 13.6M (21.6%)
NDS - 9.9M (15.7%)
PC - 5.5M (8.7%)
PSP - 1.6M (2.5%)
PS2 - 0.3M (0.5%)

UK top 40: FIFA denies Rage, Dark Souls
FIFA 12 sales dipped 66 per cent, but were still high enough to maintain a lead.

Rage entered second, with 58 per cent of sales on Xbox 360 and 32 per cent on PS3. PC numbers weren't disclosed, but digital sales aren't counted by Gfk Chart-Track anyway.

Dark Souls entered third, with 58 per cent of sales going to PS3 - the platform to which Demon's Souls belonged.

And they made him a Lord of Cinder. Not for virtue, but for might. Such is a lord, I suppose. But here I ask. Do we have a sodding chance?
Quite surprised it's "only" 58% PS3.

3DS has NO games, not even starfox is enough to save the system
Thing is, if you own Ghost Recon and have no interest in the N64 ports / remakes, that statement is true. I really want to pick up another 3DS game but there is nothing worth buying on the system. That will change, but when?

Without wishing to sound like SCEA on NPD day, 360 has approx 2x the install base of PS3 in the UK so if a game performs equally on both platforms the shares would be around 66% 360 and 33% PS3. For PS3 shares to be 58% it shows that the game is significantly more popular amongst PS3 owners.

Star Fox 64 3D actually performed better than the last two Star Fox games on DS and GCN. The problem is that it's a very small franchise in the UK to begin with.

I think he's talking about the 2010 UK Software Units, where 3DS is nowhere to be seen.
Perhaps because 3DS didn't exist in 2010.
