...Actually, 3DS games saw a big rise this week, see better. Probably because we're in Summer, the best period for handhelds usually.

Actually, when I worked retail at a Toys R Us here in the US over the last holiday season, I was constantly getting requests for Moshi Monsters as well (naturally prior to that, I had no clue what it was, but I quickly learned due to that). Anecdotal evidence of course, but still, wouldn't be surprised if it's pretty high up on the DS charts here as well, and we just don't see it because the NPD only releases Top 10, combined-platforms.

Amazing to me that GR:Future Soldier is still at the top. Maybe I just have a blind-spot for this franchise but I'm all kinds of surprised that its doing so well.

Ubisoft went all out with that game's marketing, so it isn't a surprise. I admit, I found the game to be extremely bland too.

I just hope it got enough sales to warrant a sequel because i enjoyed it very much.

They saw a rise in chart position indeed, but chart position is just relative to the other games sales. It is actually possible to rise in chart position even if the sales goes down. It depend on how much the other games drop in sales. I have no idea what the case is with the 3DS games though.

La marca Playstation es el Barça de los videojuegos en España: todo el mundo conoce la “Play” después del gran éxito de la primera Playstation. Precisamente esta ventaja popularidad ha servido a SONY como colchón para mantener el tipo con sus consolas durante la crisis económica.

Jorge Huguet, Director de Marketing de Playstation en España, recuerda que la situación económica del país “es más complicada” que en otros mercados, pero no se olvida de la buena salud de la marca en la península: “Siempre hemos tenido en buen lugar la marca Playstation y las portátiles Playstation han funcionado muy bien en nuestro país en comparación con otros países”.

Para el representante de SONY, preguntado sobre las posibles dificultades de lanzar una nueva portátil, la PS Vita, en el entorno actual, “una cosa [la popularidad] equilibra a la otra”. “Tenemos una buena base instalada de PSP y a los consumidores les gustan los nuestras portátiles”, añade. Playstation Vita cuenta con una base instalada de unidades en España de 60.000 a fecha del 26 de mayo desde su lanzamiento en febrero.

Por su parte, Playstation 3 se lanzó en 2007 y ha colocado más de 2,2 millones de unidades en España como base instalada: “Las ventas como todo el mundo le toca. En Playstation la verdad es que no nos podemos quejar. Si ves los datos de GfK se ve que el volumen de ventas de Playstation 3 y de los juegos sigue subiendo. Podemos estar contentos, pero sin duda la crisis afecta a todo el mundo”.

Playstation Vita llega a las tiendas de España en un difícil momento económico.

En los casos de Playstation Portable (PSP), que se vende a precio reducido con su modelo low cost por 99 euros, y de Playstation 2, las cifras también son optimistas para la compañía de origen japonés, pues los sistemas superan los tres y los cinco millones de base instalada de consolas en España desde sus lanzamientos, respectivamente.

Sobrevivir a la crisis ha sido posible en parte a la creación de productos dispuestos a atraer una audiencia masiva, siendo Playstation Move el baluarte del juego social en Playstation 3. Huguet coincide en las ventajas que el juego social ha aportado a la industria como resorte para soportar la crisis y remarca que esta expansión del sector la han promovido “todos” en referencia a otras empresas.

Atender al jugador tradicional, al que siempre dio de comer a las consolas Playstation, es vital para SONY, que en el E3 apostó por nuevas franquicias como The Last of Us, Beyond: Two Souls y Wonderbook. Para el representante de Playstation, innovar está en el ADN de la marca: “Nosotros lo hacemos porque nos interesa que la plataforma tenga los mejores juegos posibles. También es una obligación como compañía innovar en todo”.

Con todo, Huguet considera que el modelo opuesto (explotar series conocidas a través de entregas) “es una forma muy válida”: “Al final lo que interesa es hacer productos que vendan, y se puede vender de muchas formas. Si sigues el camino de juegos que sean franquicias anteriores, pero que a la gente le gustan y los vas mejorando, es una forma muy válida”.

En cualquier caso, el Director de Marketing cree que las dos posibilidades son igual de válidas e implican riesgos, pues algunas franquicias populares pueden perder audiencia cuando los cambios aplicados no son los más apropiados: “Son modelos válidos todos y todos tienen sus riesgos. Si coges franquicias antiguas, las mejoras y les das otra cara, también tienen sus riesgos”.

Is there no sequel thread?

I tried to read the latest MCV digital edition, but the flash or whatever loads 50% and then stalls. Two different computers, two different operating systems, same result. Anyone else can get it to work?
