Assassin’s Creed 3 still playing catch-up on the WiiU to ps360 versions

Well, no, we can't settle for anything until the game actually comes out!

Even the PS3/360 versions are rarely truly equal, so why would the Wii U be any different?

This is true. Point retracted. I'm just tired of all the bickering is all. It's a launch title that they probably just started earlier this year. Of course it won't be up to par as the PS360

Really .....no way??? How did his account get stolen and how long has his account been stolen?
I can't remember, the guy who told me initially discussed it in the thread, but he deleted those messages because he didn't want to be a target for having his account hacked too. I just checked my PMs, and the specifics aren't on there, so they must have been in the thread.

When has this ever been the norm before though? Xbox 360 launch ports like NBA Live, Tiger Woods, NFS, Madden, King Kong all looked noticeably better on the 360 compared to the original Xbox. They had improved lighting, character models, textures, 3D crowds, etc.

Those developers had the same restrictions (new hardware to port to, limited time) yet they delivered enhanced ports. Ubisoft should be held to the same standard, especially on their biggest franchise.

Because games in general are much more complex now. And the Xbox and 360 almost certainly shared many aspects of hardware in common unlike the Wii U, which is Nintendo's first HD console, and the HD Twins

I understand completely. Bickering is exactly what it is.

Everyone should just wait and see how things pan out.

How much stronger is the wii u compared to ps3/360? Shouldn't they just be able to port the game too Wii u and it would automatically be superior and at least run st higher resolution/ frame rate? Why do they actually have to "try" in order to get the Wii u version to look better?
Because it's a port and not something that was built for the Wii U?

Also, you have to "try" with any game to make it look better on another system. Having better graphics isn't something done by default.

System on par with 360 looks as good as 360. Shocker.

Odd. The wiiU COULD have the best looking/running version (aside from high to über PC's). Wonder why nintendo isnt pushing third party devs to make thier games the best on the WiiU? It will have a full year before The other new consoles. Is there a real reason? No money? Time restraints? Anyone?

Is this the OoOE thing? Or the audio processor thing?

Are there devs or techheads here who can elaborate on how difficult it is to get comparable or better performance using unoptimized code on more powerful hardware?

"Unique controller", launch-level install base, very little history of third-party success for non-casual games on Nintendo systems.

Third parties have to spend extra time and resources on creating a worthy use of the WiiU pad while getting their engine to run on WiiU. It makes very little sense to invest extra money to create unique features for a sku that is already severely handicapped by a low install base.

I don't think 360 shared anything in common with the original Xbox from a hardware standpoint. Intel/Nvidia to IBM/ATI, going from standard HDD to no HDD, etc. That seems like a much harder transition for developers than porting from 360 to WiiU. (Though I'm not too knowledgable on hardware stuff so dunno).

I just think it's shitty that one of the leading publishers is aiming to get their game running just on-par, especially since it's their premier/best-selling franchise.

NeoGAF: Wait, you could die, at least tell me your specs.

Wii U: It's not who I am underneath, but what I do that defines me.

NeoGAF: Xbox 360?

You know what I find weird a few months before E3 someone confirmed that the Wii U version will have better textures and lighting.

I'm trying to find it though.

I remember this being said.

But I've learned never to take developers or journalists word for it when it comes to multi-platform game performance. Last gen people were talking up PS3 versions of games big time and then at launch every multi-plat performed worse!

Yes, but the people who don't have an irrational attachment to a first party will just want the best version of multiplatform games, and that will be on PS4 or Xbox 3.

Is it irrational for someone to enjoy nintendo first party games more than most third party games?

I put a lot of weight behind who will develop games for a console when choosing which to buy, and Nintendo is one of only a very small set of developers who make games that can easily sway the decision. Studio Liverpool were another, Q Games and Treasure are as well.

Wii U: The good news and bad news after more quality time with Nintendo's new console at Gamescom

Graphics compared to PS3/360

The good news: Everyone wants to know how the machine's shaping up against its peers. I can confirm visual quality has improved tangibly in ZombiU. Having played the E3 demo at an event in London a few months back, the difference is evident in the new Buckingham Palace level. The edges of the characters are no longer razor-sharp, movement seems more fluid and the game now looks about on par with a modern Xbox 360 title.

But a cross-platform comparison is what you want, right? Well get this: Assassin's Creed III is up and running on the Wii U. I watched a PR rep play the Battle of Chesapeake Bay section (the one with the ships from E3) and was initially impressed. Dynamic shadows and wave effects make for a very organic game world. It's busy, dramatic… the console runs it with relative ease. At least on first glance…

The bad news: The PS3 version was playing beside it – and the difference is night and day. Right now, PS3's version of Assassin's Creed III is, simply put, better. Even gamers without my robot eyes would be able to see the difference.

Smoother edges, better frame-rate, more detailed textures… it's akin to the kind of difference we used to see in multiplatform games when the PS3 version would look shaky in comparison to Xbox 360 release. It could change before release of course, but that's how it is right now.

There's more to the article, it could probably justify a new thread

I'm honestly thinking starting to think the WiiU is a pretty gimmick console. Its like current gen system with a flashy tablet controller. Definitely will not be picking up this system. It may sell well though, after all the Wii itself was basically the same and sold amazingly well. Times have really changed this gen though, even among the casuals. Microsoft and Sony got pretty good casual offerings of their own.

And you're basing this with what? An unreleased game that was made in a short time compared to the other versions?

What an unbelievable lie by Shane from GT. I hope people never fall for his crap again.

Oh the insanity.

I suppose that the biggest question everybody has about the Wii U version has to do with just how good the game looks. Honestly, it looks incredible on Wii U. So incredible, in fact, that it makes me wonder why the PS3 version looks as ropey as it does. This isn’t to say that the PS3 demo I played looked abysmal, far from it, but it definitely didn’t look as smooth and texture rich as the Wii U version does. Of course, as the Wii U version is actually a port, the most likely explanation for visual differences is that the PS3 version is an older build, perhaps an E3 demo, while the Wii U version is up to date.
