Low-Spec Gaming Suggestions

My laptop is Core i3, 2gb ram, integrated graphics, 5400rpm hd.

I'm done with flash games, I want to play a "real" game.

I tried playing Team Fortress 2 but it runs like poop.

League of Legends and StarCraft II are known for their scaling requirements. When you crank those babies down they can run on almost anything.

I imagine Hotline Miami will also run pretty well. Pretty much most of the 2D games from the Humble Bundles, really.

Torchlight supposedly runs alright on low spec machines, right? Has a 'netbook' mode or something similar.

I was going to say this. Plus Terraria is loads of fun and you can always play some older titles you may have missed in the past. Otherwise I'd say check out a few Indie Bundles, most of those games aren't extremely demanding.

Got a Dell Vostro v131 (i5, Intel HD 3000, 4Gb RAM) and the best games I can play on it are:

Torchlight 1
Torchlight 2 (slightly more demanding than 1)
CiV5 is playable (though not very pretty
Xcom is playable and looks decent
Bastion
Mark of the Ninja

Other than that it mostly indie games.

You should try using some of the low-quality configs for TF2 if you want to play that game on a laptop. I was able to run it fairly well once I did that.

I keep Binding of Isaac, Super Hexagon, Cave Story and 100000000 on my work Macbook Air for when I'm traveling. Isaac feels like a life saver sometimes.

Oh, and you might want to
thumb through this.

Steam indie games for $10 or less sorted by metacritic score. Vast majority of those games should run on anything with a monitor. But I'll go ahead and recommend a few games from the first three pages that I've played and suspect they'll run on anything. Bolded are games that I super duper like.

Braid, world of goo, thirty flights, limbo, hotline miami, audiosurf, machinarium, FTL, binding of isaac, spacechecm, defcon, terraria, superbrothers sword and sworcery, gemini rue, lone survivor, jamestown, VVVVVV, gish, dustforce, dungeons of dredmor and thomas was alone.

(I missed a few good games from the search results that I haven't yet played, like Cave Story+)

GOG list from mine which have run well without annoying setup issues (hello xcom and weird dosbox clock speed shit)

Anachronox
Arcanum of Steamworks and Magick Obscura
Baldur's Gate 1 & 2
Icewind Dale 1 & 2
Planescape Torment
Fallout 1 & 2
Freespace 2 (FS1 has been recreated for this engine, no need to get it)
Descent 1-3
Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver
Rayman 1&2 (many people have issues with 3)
Master of Orion 1&2
Blood
Caesar 3, Pharaoh, and Zeus
Shogo – Mobile Armor Division
Heroes of Might & Magic 3
Theme Hospital
Earthworm Jim 1 & 2
Jagged Alliance series
Nox
Arx Fatalis
Another World
Silver
Shadow Warrior
Ghost Master
Realms of the Haunting

I will reiterate is this is stuff I know can be set up well without too much trouble. If there are things lacking, I probably don't have experience with getting them going. Some of these have nice mods/launchers to make things even better.

Currently downloading new Intel HD drivers, apparently mine were 2 years old. Maybe that's why TF2 was unplayable. Fingers crossed!

I'm going down the list of games on here and checking out gameplay videos on YouTube. Lots of good games it seems :)

FTL is a fantastic choice - really low spec requirements but strangely addictive and great to play in short bursts.

GOG.com has a big variety of older games, i'm tempted to buy Rollercoaster Tycoon (is 2 better than 3?) or Theme Hospital.

Indie titles are great bets too, especially with bundles which mean you can get them from 1p.

dude, you are basically asking to name your favorite PC game that doesn't require high end system; that's really vast, narrow down your preferences

I use my low spec laptop to play great games from a decade ago.

Diablo 2
Battle Realm
Warcarft 3
etc

some indy games

Hotline Miami (so good)
Cook, Serve, Delicious!
Super meatboy
etc

and emulator

Also if you have a controller, hit up the Sega Genesis collections next time Amazon puts the whole set on sale.

Get a console.
360 is busted, I think the scaler chip became unhinged from the board somehow. At least that's what my symptoms and Google say.

I ran Civ4 on CanYouRunIt.com and got this
