To be fair, the game isn't good either so don't get all worked up about not playing it well. Some of the upgrades aren't really worth it. The upgrades have good ideas behind them, but they aren't necessarily that great in execution.

Like, I feel like the shooting bits are worse than freaking Red Seeds Profile's.

This is what Square-Enix thinks scientists working in BSL2-4 labs look like.
Aww my first third person shooter is not a great one? Not that I plan on playing any others but if I ever happen to at least it can only go up from here! An I think Shalua's an exception. All other scientists we've seen in this game an the series itself are pretty normally dressed!

I already feel like I have to add to every single game on the list with every new post of yours.

Well think of it as a compliment for a glorious and very appreciated task? You rock!

Final Fantasy V: Legend of the Crystals Finished watching this, and it was okay. Nothing to write home about, but an enjoyable little distant sequel that's good when you get passed the terrible pronunciations. I recommend that Dark Schala never watch it, though, because if she did she'd see that it meant that the only original content in FF4TAY is Maenad, which is ironic given that she is
a clone
. Because everything in TAY that's not a retread of FF4 is basically an FF4 version of this OVA. Deathgyunos is Creator, the True Moon is the Black Moon, the crystals filling a similar role, etc. Of note is the sheer hilarity of Linaly's crystal being in her butt. Like, take that Vanille and Lightning, Linaly literally had her crystal up her butt, not some lame, pseudo fanservicey area!

Final Fantasy Adventure Cleared Kett's. In the Sword of Mana version Count Lee, a "Mavole" is not evil, but is kidnapping women to hide in "Mavolia" so that they can escape Dark Lord Stroud's persecution of the Mana tribe. In the FFA version, Mr. Lee is an actual Vampire who is kidnapping young women so he can suck their blood. Something I prefer about the FFA version is you team up with a Red Mage who turns out to be Julius. You don't do that, to my mind, in SWoM, which is lame. Flipside is that SWoM turns Dark Lord and by extension SD3's Dark Prince into a compelling character via the character of Stroud. If anyone has played FFA but not SWoM, I highly recommend you do. SWoM does a good job of expanding the game's plot without ruining it, plus it has hilariously censored swearing (at one very dramatic point, the hero says "Rats!"

Final Fantasy Dimensions Recruited Barbara to my party. Cannot stand how she talks in ridiculous babby talk, though. Also I went and took on an Avenger, which is like those horrible imps under Walse Castle in FFV. Got a Sleep Blade for my trouble, but MAN it is vicious and I think there's another chest down in that place. Currently I'm rocking a WAR/BM/RM/WM party. Can't wait to get a freakin' Dragoon, though, because we all know how cool Dragoons are!

Final Fantasy VII Dragoons aren't cool. Cid Highwind is proof of that. Can't hold a candle to Pollendina. NOPE. Anyway, Does anybody know if you can get the Buggy back on Disc 3? I'm trying to learn some Enemy Skills and the game claims that my choices are either to go to the Crater, where I'm just not ready to go, and to Desert Prison, which would be more convenient. Also, I'm thinking about taking on Emerald Weapon soon, so if you have any advice, FFGAF, I'd love to hear it. The Master Materia set is too tempting a prize to ignore. Ruby Weapon, by comparison, sucks, what with its mere Gold Chocobo prize.

Final Fantasy IVTAY Finished Palom's tale, and had the cash to purchase the Dominatrix' set and purchase the Black Tail. Now all I need to do is get the Adamantite and Twin Star or what have you from his challenge dungeon and I'll be advancing the game. Palom is actually one of my favorite characters in TAY. I like his sarcastic attitude, and I like that he didn't fulfill his dream of becoming a sage. I dunno, he's just one of the better characters in TAY for me.

Dark Schala

Eloquent Princess
I recommend that Dark Schala never watch it, though, because if she did she'd see that it meant that the only original content in FF4TAY is Maenad, which is ironic given that she is

I actually rented it multiple times when I was little, but I don't remember much of it outside of the main character's name being Pretzel main character being a living and breathing pretzel :)P) and chocobo summons being lol-worthy. I remember towards the tail end of my time renting it had me leaning towards not thinking much of it anymore.

I was, like, 10 when I started renting it, so that's 14-15 years since I've seen it.

The final boss is literally defeated by an army of summoned chocobos. Can't even make that up.

This was the first chapter I had ta buy bullets in. Maybe since theres 3 bullet types I should start using all 3 gun types instead of just 2?

Alternate Title: Asshole Checkpoints Strike Back

i2xkiWbyf5gAD.jpg
ivn3YEoqKt34P.jpg

Those mechs were no problem. No problem at all... as long as you're not close to them when they die and explode! Its not just for show, it hurts! Remember these critters? There's a pack of 3 of 'em an they run away when ya shoot at them. They don't come back an try to attack or anything. Kinda feel bad for chasing them off!

iBGf8L0Lkn4xY.jpg
iIt6rL1x8GqeB.jpg

btw What do we have here? Its not dark out? And we're in a nice scenic area? That's amazing! Finally some pretty scenery! This mountain pass is nice ta look at but its also full of hounds. Enemy variety obviously isn't this games strong point.

Part 12: "looks like another chapter 2"

iTZRWQT39csOa.jpg
ibkA89BD2yUUro.jpg

Hey a new enemy! It's those waspy things from the Wutai area. Bizzare Bugs I think? Those Deepground guys are still looking for WRO survivors to eliminate so when Vincent stumbles upon one of their camps he greets 'em with some high-ground shooting! When they all seemed taken out he goes down and finds there's still some left along with a pack of bugs which kill him x.x

iqsMwQ0WeIBhP.jpg
ibfwhVkHtpjk4u.jpg

On the next try after taking out the first wave of soldiers he goes down then climbs back up to safety an ya know what happens? The bugs attack the Deepground soldiers! How nice of 'em! Just past the camp is a nice open field and a fire fight! I gotta save those guys again??

itmkztKdjvkyb.jpg
ifV88Uosn1UMh.jpg

I try to when suddenly... new mission already?! Remember when similar things were bosses? Good times. Now there was a turret firing at us all earlier but like a blind fool I decide to fend of these choppers with a rifle. It works to some degree but ya, not smart. Once the chopper threat passes - surprise! 3 big dudes with blades jump outta nowhere & start chasing ya around! I get by them and into the first WRO Causeway and die.

iC3SgEpUo5TW5.jpg
i4p2J1eF1zoBW.jpg

After going through the mountain pass, camp, a big battle and making it into a new setting... guess what? No checkpoint. Right back to chapter start! Make it back there again and this time use the turret on the choppers but end up dying in that battle anyways. It was at this point I switched over to my tv and bulldozed my way through all that crap again! Hey look what we're coming up to! The HQ!

i7jYMYKELqQZ3.jpg
iFEBdF5Hyg0N7.jpg

Guarding the entrance is Black Widow II with goons accompanying it? Black Widow was a good boss battle but Vincent was in no mood for another one. Limit Break + pounding on it = quick victory! Its a big mess inside and only one way to go! Down to the lower area where Shelke was encountered before.

irIg8r9DivGls.jpg

Where the hell did this massive beast come from!?

ibxY1KEabPHXFn.jpg
igiGbl4vFxbsA.jpg

Its Azul? Luckily, Shelke has hax an reverts him to normal. In self-defense of course. Cause he really was trying to kill her. Shelke's job was to find the keeper of the Protomateria an since that job was finished, Weiss ordered she be terminated much to her surprise and dismay. 10 years of suffering just to do 1 task then be disposed of? Now I do feel for her!

iEG6pldXEyQKf.jpg

Azul resumes his rampage so the trio of Vincent, Shalua, an Shelke gotta run! Vincent makes it through the door first but Shelke's being stubborn and has to be shoved through it. Cause of this Shalua has no time to make it and asks Vincent to take care of her little sister just before her arms crushed an the door slams shut...

iboc16Kd91B9n1.jpg
ihc1BEq7wUjzf.jpg

Not a single S rank in sight this time around! What I expected would be a short jog through the wilderness ala Chapter 2 was actually about as long as any other chapter! I surely did do a number on those choppers. But Deepground did a bigger number on my WRO peeps. Just gimme another chance! I'll buckle down an save every last one of them should another such mission arise >.<;

iAi9Y2iVF1fN9.jpg
iKdBYKRNk1Pqn.jpg

Reeve's all down in the dumps after his organization got trashed. Maybe he is a hero and a goodguy but he still took a little kid hostage an fucked over Cloud's party abit. Anyhow Vincent tries to cheer him up saying how everyone taught him to move on 3 years ago. Then suddenly its over to Yuffie being sad over Shalua, who looks in pretty good shape for someone who was left to die against Azul.

ib0VI1jykdxGKv.jpg
iW0LWQOLb6Ves.jpg

While Yuffie derides Vincent for not saving Shalua, Shelke wanders in and calls her sister a fool! Is Yuffie gonna have to slap a bitch? YES!

ibgbOS8L6UEwKO.jpg

Shelke can't grasp self-sacrifice but she can grasp onto Vincent's body an call up some old memories of his!

inoW3wjf9zY1O.jpg
ibvBplNCswMZva.jpg

Just what kind of a Turks falls asleep on the job? No wonder he was assigned to mere bodyguard duty! Lucrecia finds it cute an invites him to a picnic with her!

ibueWrNoS5hOmt.jpg
ibigjFovbgnrk.jpg

Reeve enters saying he won't give up! Then rubs it in my face that I missed an Omega Report file -.- I had hoped that wouldn't come back to haunt me! Shelke offers up a helping hand. She's got a buncha Lucrecia's mnemonic data all up in her neural network. Combining her info with the files should give 'em enough data ta know what they're up against!

iXzdHorh1BxnW.jpg
ihe4qNEuY2Xql.jpg

Then Yuffie calls out saying they need to get outside asap! Backup has arrived in the form of Cid & his... fleet of airships? Holy crap!

ibw86MoOx9pqu5.jpg
ib0oRJAbRhe0wr.jpg

Aye aye captain! Let's do this thing! All aboard!

This chapter seemed ta be missing something. After utilizing cover, doing rail shooting, sniping, escort mission, stealth stuff, turret sequence and more... what coulda possibly been left out here?

iSwz0RV5sVQwA.jpg

Hey guys remember Shera? Remember? Guys? You do? Good. She won't be making an updated appearance here.

ibnjp90FfLBZWL.jpg
ib044dOgIhyTKa.jpg

Cid's to busy to talk to us until it's time for the meeting so let's talk to various people around the ship instead! One person talks about how they've tried to resettle Midgar but the Mako radiation made it impossible. Give it another 497 years and it'll prolly all be good! One of the people there worked on the Highwind! This dudes still finding new buttons! Some people had less informative chatter. But another useful one went through Scarlet's old reports an informs us that Deepground used to just be a medical facility for injured members of SOLDIER. Given time, scientist fuckery, and a rogue SOLDIER, things went awry. "G"? G? That has to be a coincidence... right?

ibtI1pSAm3SwYb.jpg
iVuIQNCOuC2rS.jpg

We find that Yuffie's still as airsick as ever! A WRO member points out that this ships ceiling changes color almost like magic, but its totally technology I think? Turns out the ship itself wasn't made by Cid, or the WRO, or Shinra! Its basically lost technology. I dun think the Ancients were jetting around in ships so where'd this one come from?

Part 13: "is this a tie-in to ff x-2?"

ibrxBfiu2MTErJ.jpg
icw0RWaykiz2d.jpg

In other news, Shelke's been given full access to the ships computers an stuff. Team Hero is as trusting as ever. To help 'em all out she's working on setting things up so she can do virtual reality network diving or something. After all that walking & talking its meeting time! What's this? We got buddies on the ground?

iZ71ZLlEOBfT6.jpg
iFSOcE43x6Zb1.jpg

Oh oh! These kinds of buddies!! Sweet!

ibvCHsXaNoPwMk.jpg
iWT0pycLvqu2k.jpg

Cloud takes off in his bike out in front to lead a big 'ol convoy on Midgar!

ilEU8wO6k6CZE.jpg
ibc8BEZEGK166i.jpg

Shelke does a dive an starts up a holographic projector. With Lucrecia's data & the Omega file reports she gives a picture of what alls going on. Omega's a WEAPON born from the planet to protect itself much like the others before it. The things purpose is to take all the souls from the planet an lead 'em off into space. Doing this will also mean the end of the planet so I dun get how this is for its own protection? By killing tons of people, Deepground's trying to trick Omega into awakening long before it ever should be!

ibfy1ohPdfuJrD.jpg
iMBaBuyGTXnS2.jpg

After having done her thing, Shelke's all exhausted but maybe learning ta care about peeps once again. As for Cid he's leaving the heavy lifting to Vincent! He's got an aerial assault to lead while the others on the ground work to take out the 8 Mako reactors in Midgar. But after this fights over he offers ta kick back with Vincent an down some cold ones like the good ol' days!

iLlh9bSbWZGjW.jpg
imOoFn0qq9MdR.jpg

Vincent's curious as to who's paying for Reeve's organization but the man himself doesn't even know! An anonymous backer who has access to loads of cash and feels indebt to the planet huh? The still sick Yuffie goes on about how Wutai got attacked by Deepground but her dad and the others helped fend the place off. Of course if she'd been there at the time she would have taken them all herself! Down in the ships lower deck, Vincent starts to lose control and change into Chaos! He pulls himself together an sees it was certainly not a dream.

iE1nvCeB0KtxG.jpg
iAZPmj59rUFls.jpg

The Tsviets notice the incoming air & ground assault and Rosso hopes their opponents are serious cause she's been bored. Up in the Shera, Cid's giving one hell of a pep talk to all the troops! Shelke gives Vincent back the cellphone he'd lost in Kalm with some upgrades! He can call her right up and she'll be able to monitor his movements an stuff. Vincent & Reeve both thank her and say they're counting on her yet she's still alil moody saying she got no one to fight for.

ib17qTJSh6lDnm.jpg
ibpiYtdtiea21O.jpg

Cid gives the order to go and it is SO on! That's a whole lotta mechs & troops!

i5REkEBCDXW5B.jpg
ivUpk8eP4pDux.jpg

While bullets, rockets, an all kinds of stuff is being fired every which way, Yuffie and others slide outta the airship on snowboards?

iidu16abrS2QY.jpg
i8MCZQzhHZlvQ.jpg

Oh look. Rosso's found herself a playmate. So much for all of the Tsviets being left to Vincent! Cloud's got this one in the bag. Azul find a target in Cid's ship and fires away which ticks the captain off!

i75XmJrLWx6fy.jpg

With the ship under fire Vincent is forced to sortie abit early!

ibmt6pzSAmWxlm.jpg
iboXwV9HnstFZt.jpg

He does some mad tricks, grinding off ruined structures an stuff and comes to a safe landing and immediately gets an earful from Shelke. So he kinda landed off his mark, it could be advantageous... maybe? He's gonna have to scoot on up to the upper plate since that's the only way to enter Deepground. And with that, this chapter is over!

Final Fantasy VIIAnyway, Does anybody know if you can get the Buggy back on Disc 3? I'm trying to learn some Enemy Skills and the game claims that my choices are either to go to the Crater, where I'm just not ready to go, and to Desert Prison, which would be more convenient.
Sounds like you're in need of Laser but that buggys gone an it ain't coming back!

Sounds like you're enjoying DoC Lindsay.

I'm glad you're having fun.
Enjoying sure, but fun? Hard to say. This just isn't the type of gameplay I like. Its fun to overcome (most) of the obstacles they throw at me but shooting stuff isn't really my thing. Feels distant & detached whereas I prefer my combat up close an personal! Had I known the games genre beforehand I woulda thought twice before borrowing it to play! I am liking the continued FFVII-verse. It doesn't destroy the original as I thought it would and makes the backlash against FFVII an the stuff that spawned for it even sillier! VI & VIII bots are just jelly their favorites didn't get expanded upon.

Yeah, but I found a way to get this stuff from the Crater, so I'm okay. I almost snapped and rage-finished the game, but I only need 10 more levels before I think I'm a sufficient level to challenge Emerald. And if I can defeat Emerald, then Ruby will not challenge me.

I still need to go back and defeat Neo-Shinryu and Omega Mk. II in FFVa to claim I've slain all Superbosses.

Less then 60 pics taken of this one. Even the second chapter had more! btw wtf are Mega Potions? I dun remember them in FFVII or CC >.> I guess new stuffs allowed but they appear for sale the same time X Potions do so whats the point? Adding them in Chapter 5 or so woulda helped out greatly.

ir7oxBLi4Nqd7.jpg

Assault Midgar? Sure why nots. The once great city is trashed anyhow so lets fuck it up some more!

ibtiH8kb9v8bg5.jpg
iKp6xTcSb3gFT.jpg

Not much fighting ta start with but plenty of exploring back an forth between train cars. Gotta hunt down all them tucked away goodies! Just like Vincent, some WRO peeps had also landed off course and inform him they're in the Sector 7 Train Graveyard. Never thought I'd be back here! Seriously. Cause, like, wasn't this place also crushed when the upper plate fell o.o?

ibbctsL2e1feiF.jpg
iWouaaMI3AKu.jpg

Well anyways they let Vincent know the aerial & ground squads have reached the upper plates so they must be doing alright. Suddenly these two force their way into the party an I got an escort mission on my hands!

Part 14: "gotta protect 'em all"

ibl1KOFWjaznOM.jpg
isEgSQTH0KspW.jpg

Soon there after a slacker is stumbled upon! Vincent's annoyed but lets him tag along anyhow. Strangely there's not a whole lotta fighting to be had. That's good cause I wanna keep these stragglers in fine health! Speaking of stragglers another one of 'em was obtained! Could she have been related to Biggs or Wedge? Makes me wonder if Wedge's younger brother survived to. She joins up and hey! These lil mechs! Real pokey lil things which're hard ta shoot and harder to melee. And unlike Zack, Vincent is bad with magic so that didn't help much neither.

ibtejqKpda13dc.jpg
ibfkDYAWG1YOp0.jpg

Eventually the growing party made it to safety and found a commander! He says Deepground's most powerful defenses are further into the train graveyard and the squad volunteers to continue on with Vincent. However he reminds them of Cid's order to stay alive and goes off on his own.

iqrScYbQ91Txz.jpg
iDA57BJno3DJa.jpg

So far things have been real safe despite this being a warzone. Ya there's lots bullets & rockets firing throughout but they're all from background sources meaning you're in no danger. I totally expected an ambush inside some train cars but it wasn't meant to be! Instead I get another mission. One I'm kinda getting tired of! I dun care what anyone says, this one was impossible. The moment you get the mission at least 2 of 'em are blown away by a rocket. Go around a corner and find more instantly being picked off by far up targets. I died on purpose just to see if there was another way but the results were the same -_-

ibeVBpDgIT35mD.jpg
iYWycg6cQPtyL.jpg

Strangely I found an Omega file report around this place. What the heck was it doing there? Am I getting a second chance to redeem myself? I'll redouble my efforts to find stuff!! Oh an hey hey, there is a survivor! A scripted one. He says they're both stuck there cause he found no way to advance forward. So Vincent calls up Shelke and she quicky finds a way! She also warns of strong Deepground baddies nearby but that Vincent prolly won't break a sweat fighting 'em. Now this is a mission I can handled!

ivZP3ZvrvyMpv.jpg
iidCX258aczUU.jpg

Ya that things not the commander but I never got a close look at just who was! Lotsa soldiers an mechs were around so I'm just count the whole large group as the boss! And for good measure... another boss fight not long after the previous one! These guys SUCK!

inh9UKfmGsosL.jpg
ibldeZDM4vt45Y.jpg

Choices: Stand out in the open getting pelted by bullets from a group of dudes with jetpacks trying futilely to fire at them OR go into a train car with a shop-box in it and take shots at 'em as they briefly fly in an outta view. I chose the pussy route! I'm so jealous of cutscene powers. If only he coulda just up and kicked them all away instead of getting into a difficult firefight!

ixbCGSEtBMAhi.jpg

Whats this? His back isn't turned to an explosion! Lame!

ibhJZuotKnsFA3.jpg
iRkdbhrjMdcVZ.jpg

If hadn't purposely died would I have gotten an S rank? I did do okay overall. That squad survivor stat is borked. I never found a 5th person and I'm SO sure no one died along the way! So thats 8 chapters down. I wonder how many there are? Course I say that but don't tell me! This is still a blind playthrough ya know!

The game threw a curveball at me so I gotta make an addendum to the previous update. I thought I was done with Chapter 8 but the load game screen has told me otherwise! Why there was a results screens and another chapter title screen within the same chapter I can't say!

ibvzMserrR6zdE.jpg

Not really a thing worth fighting for imo.

ibtbGFvPW239KN.jpg
ibdlbVixEPyLYp.jpg

Right from the start there's action! And some more WRO peeps accompanying Vincent. They showed up unannounced an just sorta started following him around. A big open room with lotsa crates an explosive barrels was fun to bust up and there was a nice deal of goodies to be found as well! A nearby turret was real useful in mowing down a bunch of Deepground jerks and protecting my allies. Its a good thing friendly fires not on!

inTnO0504CHU7.jpg
iNLhzkPBYna3E.jpg

After that the crew kinda vanishes and now Vincent's gotta dodge flying mines! Being on top of the laser gates when they go back up is not a good thing! All in all instead of avoiding the mines he got blown up by them!

Part 15: "why couldn't they all be that easy?"

ibw7vLd9jUdcFt.jpg
iydbSUksk1iP3.jpg

Practically right around the corner is the next mission! And it sucks. The darn mech charges straight towards ya! Our hero couldn't destroy the thing before it rammed right into him. It died an he suffered massive damage. -.-

iYBZMTiyVG9Xz.jpg
iHTDCh8yiUXu7.jpg

Sitting on this turret caused a whole lot of baddies to come rushing into its line of fire just as Vincent had done only moments earlier! They managed to overwhelm and kill him! Luckily the checkpoint was at that robot mission so not much backtracking was needed. btw I could never figure out how ta progress further into this room filled with gates so the items within were outta my reach ;.;

ib2rlQhvxE6cSu.jpg
ibhbf8PZn9dQP9.jpg

Just up ahead was... oh hey! So thats where those guys went off to! Gotta help out while one of them picks a lock or something? More casualties incoming! Or not? Protecting them was super easy for once. Enemy soldiers popped out one at a time with plenty of time between 'em. What I don't get is why the two WRO peeps by the entrance left all the shooting to Vincent! Beyond that door was a cramped hallway, a staircase leading up, and death. There was a super tough soldier(s?) at the top raining bullets down on the good guys. Ta make matters worse the stairs got cluttered with crates & barrels making aiming for him even harder.

iJW7mV5pVv5Jf.jpg
iDSoAtIsNkQZA.jpg

The second attempt went slightly better and up even further was a bunch of prizes for our efforts! The disc looking thing stood out amongst the regular item cases so into the inventory I went! ... ... Wait for reals?! Are they really refering to HIM??? On the other hand, if "S" and "G" are who I think they are, this report is full of crap. Cause seriously "few have the courage to speak" my ass! The S & G I knew had friggen fanclubs dedicated to 'em!

ijoL9ebmiRFrH.jpg
iJPYum4LBOwyB.jpg

So anyways yet another mission! These extremely annoying lil things are still hard to fight and group up on ya real fast. They ended up wrecking my crew! A second batch of them was accompanied by a soldier firing rockets at ya from the other end of the hall. Talk about a massive pain in the ass.

iXOnHel7YvpU2.jpg
ibyLRy282YgQ0i.jpg

When Vincent finally makes it to the top he finds Rosso waiting for him. Cloud bro, ya let me down. She's all like reveling in how she threw away her humanity and can't wait to suck the planet dry. Time ta battle her at long last! She was sorta manageable at first but after maybe a quarter health lost she started flingin blades at him! An no. You can't shoot them down. I tried. This isn't RE4.

izO5h6BRi1m3D.jpg
ibj1NL9Rmv1HOu.jpg

She only got harder from there. Moving around alot, dashing super fast to combo you and spamming those damn ultra hard to avoid blades! Vincent only won due to careful healing item usage. Picking away at her with a Limit Break helped to even if the damage done wasn't high. Rosso didn't take losing to well. It was absurd that he was stronger than her...

ibj2KCcubQuxhx.jpg

...so she cut away the ground she was standing on and sent herself plummeting to her off-screen doom.

ibryyGvS7yam2P.jpg
ibfO9lZVhrWQpt.jpg

How much magic did they expect me to cast to get above D?? The combined time for both parts of this chapter would be about the same as most of the others so why chop it in 2 like that? From the second results screen and things that happened in the chapter itself I finally come to realize that stage missions stack! And that when the bots collide into you it doesn't count as you destroying them. How do you kill them fast enough anyway?!

isloPvg8jW1tB.jpg
ixLcVtgeU2hjH.jpg

Shelke phones in to tell Vincent that his buddies suck and not even 1 of the Mako Reactors have been shutdown! The WRO and Team Cloud are embarassing themselves again. Vincent drops his phone in order to smack some worthless fodder away. But there's more to it then that! Chaos is acting up again and Shelke has to explain why. He really is clueless about this whole Protomateria thing huh?

itRh1ERUTOjXu.jpg
i4SgJ0tL16S8x.jpg

Shelke's not in full control either. Her voice changes to Lucrecia's and starts talking like her. Until something goes haywire up in The Shera! Cid's bitching about no one in the engine room responding and Shelke volunteers to go check it out. He's counting on her!

iBQdf87eijr8r.jpg
iU59yPCkmjKc2.jpg

What she finds is dead bodies and Nero! Do Cait Sith's also have souls? Cause #7 was laying there all dead-like and way back when, Nero offed the previous one. Whatever the case may be, the old teammates fight!

Warpy power & wings versus glowsticks & shields! Its a short-lived skirmish but the outcomes clear. Nero's shaken by Shelke's fighting aura and is like whatever and leaves! Take that bandage boy!

iJr2SVwuXr31a.jpg

Meanwhile Vincent begins his ascent into and up through the Shinra HQ building. Let's hope those elevators are still working cause the way into Deepground is through a passage in the presidents chamber!

Time for the next almost-daily update! I got the feeling I still got a ways to go.

in7ScoA4mPLd.jpg

Humbly submitting this as the best chapter title yet. Sadly its wasted by them not going into any detail on said fallen empire.

iblxpSG2OXFHdf.jpg
i9JZiMXfl9i1R.jpg

First off before running inside the building have a look around! There's lotsa stuff ta pick up and even a shop-box! Consider them your rewards for beating Rosso. Proceed inside to kick around some Deepground thugs and shoot at others!

i2k3hiHK3ZkCZ.jpg
iP0JIMzPdDqDG.jpg

The Shinra HQ looks waaaaay worse off than when it had been attacked previously! None of the elevators are working and the stairs pretty much go nowhere. Things are heading nowhere fast until an entrance to the basement is discovered!

Part 16: "so I'm not retreading old territory"

iRmicjSZjH8LM.jpg
iSJEsujybnNFq.jpg

This place is crawling not only with Deepground soldiers but overgrown insects as well! Having a shot of Fire materia handy when those bugs swarm ya is a good policy.

ilmhlbzKgup5T.jpg
iYVAI62yjrKVC.jpg

Theres an item case full of 5,000 gil to the intelligent player who doesn't blow this barrel up! I'm surprised standing on it didn't cause the thing ta go boom anyway. Further ahead is a boss fight! It's just another Black Widow model but theres alil more to it than that...

iBtBadBv9zgaj.jpg
iwj2Wg2i0LJ1H.jpg

That's right! There are two of them at the same time!! Its super hectic when ya got a pair of these things dropping grenades, shooting off lasers, and spamming bullets. But like with previous Black Widow's, magic is your friend! Beyond them is a swanky elevator going down and for the first time I show off the map screen cause guess what! There is no map of this area! Its a complete mystery!

iQSlc1fsYOgJl.jpg
iDNXdr1TTGlix.jpg

Now we finally gots ourselves a stage mission! Collecting files didn't go perfectly last time around but my item finding skills have gotten better since then. Enemy goons don't want Vincent there period but some random high damage from the machinegun puts a few of 'em down.

ibtaJcG5jFBdg2.jpg
i3Yd0k6tg2rzY.jpg

After awhile Vincent got sick of wandering around with no map an tried to call Shelke but she didn't pick up. Right after giving up and putting his phone away he gets a call from Tifa! They're still in battle and have lost contact with Cid. They say he can count on them to take care of things up top despite having accomplished fuck all up to this point. Tifa however proves useful by sending him a map of the building!

i5andHO3cVrEd.jpg
imEPidN1ChMw2.jpg

No more wandering blindly through rooms & corridors. The goal is ta find elevators and use 'em to go down more and more! Hitting up an elevator leads to a new mission! Getting some revenge on those flying mines for blowing him up earlier!! They're sorta hard to hit but easy to take out so a use for the machinegun was found at long last!

ibejQy30b4knZ8.jpg
i9eLdeXAk9Art.jpg

Once that rides over with its time for some shootouts across a series of offices! The place is full of glass walls so they see you coming but you also see them! Hurrying to the entrance of a room before they get in makes it nice an easy to take 'em out as they file through a seperate doorway. More of them files we're supposed to collect are around here to. For once theres some easy sniping. Two guys, two mechs. Get the guys then jump over the mechs and exit into the next room safely! What lays beyond that door is another elevator and many more mines to shoot down. This time they fly alot closer to ya and blowing 1 up can set off a chain reaction blowing others near it up as well. This is good... unless they're near you. The mega damage from this killed me 3 times -_-

iPvqmMsNIcgGT.jpg
i4TVqEDuZoycw.jpg

When he finally survived the ride down, a trio of big sword guys came at him! The room layout made fighting 'em a much more controllable situation than that time after shooting down choppers. With all he's been through the last couple halls of baddies were rather insignificant.

Final Fantasy VII So I finished the game, and I gotta say, I really do like FF7. It turned out to be a pretty swell game that, for myriad reasons, has garnered a reputation that isn't entirely true. The plot might not be AMAZING, but it was endearing, and the game had depth and strategy to it. It breaks up the monotony with various minigames that are easy to learn, hard to fail, and fun to play. There is a LOT to do in FF7, and one could easily sink much more time into it than I did. Prior to finishing it, I took the time to get all LVL 4 limit breaks and murder Ruby, then I hiked on down and beat Sephiroth into a pulp.

All in all, FF7 might not be THE best FF, but it really is one of them. It represents Square at their finest. It has an innocence, in spite of its attempt at being darker and edgier, that allows players of many ages to enjoy it, a quirky, comical side that Final Fantasies past 9 seem to have forgotten. Cloud, the hero, is not the emo moaner people tend to think, but rather is more of a Sonic-before-the-fall kinda guy, flippant, arrogant, has a 'tude and does extreme stuff like ride motorcycles and snowboard.

I love VI, and I think that VIII is a vastly underrated game within the fandom these days, but it's not a surprise to me why so many have so much good to say about VII.

FFVII: Advent Children Complete So this doubled as my first time seeing AC in English and seeing ACC. I gotta say, ACC is VASTLY improved over AC. The plot is more coherent, the scenes flow together, the character's motivations are better explained and really, ACC takes AC's "I wish were a good movie" to "I'm not the best movie ever but you won't regret these two hours in the morning." In other words, ACC is actually a good movie, in the sense that it is good at being what it wants to be. The Turks make for good comic relief, you actually see more of Cloud's team, Denzel is less of an awful, inexplicable intrusion on the plot and more of a legitimate character, and well, if nothing else, at least ACC is coherent.

FFD Finished Chapter 2a, and secured the Dragoon Class. In a surprisingly pleasant twist,
the villain stole a job class for himself!
I despise that Barbara speaks like Ayla, simply because I hate cave-man speech on the whole. Otherwise, Deist has been an amazing homage to Dragoons in the series. Ricard is the last Dragoon again, Abel's Lance is a plot point,
Abel bears more than passing resemblance to Kain
the sacred tower of Deist is Highwind Tower, and Barbara, the pink haired girl with the dragon grass is a shout-out to Princess Lenna.

Now we're with Noctis Nacht's party, and the quest from their point of view. I think we're heading into Loth Lorien, 'cuz I saw some Elves.

Yes! All those lil mini-events really help break up the regular, already solid gameplay. CC did well in that department to. Did ya beat Sephiroth into more of a pulp than the goddess? Your GOD FFVII team vs your GOD Zack. Which is the more powerful in the land?!

It was already coherent for me an thats coming from someone that watched it in 20 minute segments over the course of a month! Are ya saying Denzel gets more time in ACC? Cause that'd make me wanna not check it out despite people saying I oughta. He wasn't an intrusion in AC for me cause he barely had any screen time.

Definitely Zack in terms of defense, but Cloud in terms of damage output. Zack was immune to damage but he could only deal max damage at a slow rate of Costly Punch. Cloud can sit there dealing 4xCut 9999 while Barret's Missing Score accompanies.

Denzel gets more screen time, and some of it serves to remind you that Marlene plays his role better anyway, but some of it at least explains "Here is how Cloud met this annoying kid, why they took him in, and where his parents went."

I don't like Denzel, but then I can't stand Kadaj, either. Loz is the only remnant I really found entertaining.

Sounds like they're pretty balanced in some ways. The only way to find the true victor may be to play Ehrgeiz lol.

See I dun think we needed to really know about him? He just gave a name to all the other kids with stigma ta make us feel for them. Or I could be way off like I tend to be!

Frankly I don't think Denzel needed to be in the movie at all, but since he was, it was nice to have him explained. I mean, when AC first came out it was really confusing that Cloud and Tifa were living together with two children.

2 Tsviet's down, 2 to go?

ieFPTbnsDgNzl.jpg
iqE7VmxiqkfWk.jpg

So them last few encounters were chumps? Mere cannon fodder? Looking for something more? Then of course they gotta toss something tough your way! An that would not be Azul cause he was way easy this time. Susceptible to bullets and Limit Breaks! That big gun of his musta been holding him back.

inizOC5NAHnY.jpg
icCKqjNzVsQ7A.jpg

Thats right! Even after winning ya don't really win! Cause he's still got beast mode! Its about time we finally face off against an throw down with this monster!

Part 17: "hojo's an asshole"

i4mC80bhFqzut.jpg
iZOcxX8tRWMcT.jpg

Thing is, it hurts alot! It even does significant damage to your Limit Break form! This caught me by surprise and resulted in a death. But using lb's was totally the way to go for this fight. Heal, avoid his swipes, an pounding away leads to another not-win win. Cause the beast gets right back up an knocks Vincent away anyhow.

ibdWgBhNujAyPE.jpg
iblu5tKDetDFtx.jpg

Stuffs swings back in Vincent's favor when Chaos awakens and proceeds to lodge that giant gun right through Azul's chest. Damn. Unlike Rosso, the big guy gracefully accepts his defeat.

idLtY8TfVTcx4.jpg
iJA7jG37mOCIl.jpg

Chaos charges then fires his laser...

ibi5B3I9f16iM6.jpg

...sending Azul down into the abyss and another off-screen death. "Hail Weiss!" Err... come ta think of it, where the heck has Weiss been? Last time we saw/heard from him was way back in Chapter 2!

ibb2M6ekJTGbD8.jpg
iKPW7vtg0gOAN.jpg

btw Nero's been there the whole time just watching the battle play out from above. Oh evil villian organization leads. Why do you always do this instead of teaming up? He drops a device near Vincent with a familiar apology coming from it which brings back more old memories.

izCFBQnJ0Nj62.jpg
i9FOT5u4BNyId.jpg

Lucrecia had Vincent in her sciencey tube an planned on letting him out... eventually. An ill person prolly shouldn't be treating another ill person but as a scientist she must know what she's doing.

iVqA6WJm3ylwO.jpg
i3gNd8e4V5Tae.jpg

The busybody Hojo strolls into the lab curious as to what she's doing with his failed experiment, almost as if he takes pride in his failures. Lucrecia tries regain her composure an stand up to him but the bad doctors not one to be bossed around.

iWypGkTIAjRHN.jpg
ib22XzSDLfGB7T.jpg

Hojo gets a glimpse of her notes and decides she's being an evil outta control scientist like he is! She denies this but he rubs it in so hard that she starts crying while he walks out cackling like the nutbar he is.

ibkuMWSX77fytT.jpg
iD8GY6P0Mxz5d.jpg

Ya know maybe Lucrecia is guilty? She could be trying to have her cake and eat it to. Save Vincent and also confirm her theories. Ya never know. Chaos subsides and Vincent awakens. Have some pieces finally fallen into place for him?

ibtPEPWxFCEHay.jpg

And at last the entrance to Deepground opens.

ib1q7xRXhYytFB.jpg
ibisIF1mrwya1c.jpg

Another poor showing from me! I blame those mines. If not for them things went smoothly. Where was the other 54% of the Mako at?! This was an extremely straightforward chapter with little room for exploration! On the bright side I somehow aced the stage missions. Thats gotta count for something right?

They really ramped up the difficulty & gameplay length on this chapter. Maybe they thought I got off to easy in the previous one ~_~

iCVH92QSVkR7T.jpg

This here chapter title screen may look like all the others but don't be fooled! Its an alternate one!

iqRldwo1r9Cug.jpg
iAr22wb9CN9CY.jpg

WTF? Are ya telling me there's a city under the slums of Midgar? That's pretty cool! The people in the slums musta been better off then the people that lived here. Quickly we're introduced to a new enemy type. They may fly, but they're nowhere near as bad as other flying enemies. Plus there was only 8 of 'em ta deal with. Strangely enough taking them out wasn't a stage mission.

ibxdXE7n2sM5K3.jpg
iB7lOCkAjXupr.jpg

Alil further down returned us to more regular baddie battling. I found yet another Omega report in the area! Moving along brought more flying mines. These things spammed bullets and had shockingly high health. And ya had to blow 'em up to progress. That was a pain.

Part 18: "what kinda cheesy name is Grimoire?"

ibzVX7dmfq5kTF.jpg
ibeOYm3SMA2nZV.jpg

All those items down there seemed ripe for the picking... until a super speedy Deepground soldier drops down, grabs them all up, and jumps away never to be seen again. That made me sad and also laugh! I dub that soldier the Deepground Yuffie! The following soldiers otoh are complete assholes. They have shields your bullets can't penetrate!

ibs7vlG4zFMQTB.jpg
iqHEyKdCULNdx.jpg

These bulletproof foes game over'd me super quickly and that is how I got the alternate chapter title screen. Vincent got his revenge but it was not easy! Magic is the way to deal with them but that runs dry pretty quick and one of 'em had a ton of health for some reason. His item resources were left drained after that battle! Dunno what was up with this hallway. Bullets would fire outta the vents but only once as you approached. I thought it was a timing puzzle and instead ya just wait then proceed with ease.

ifOwknEHu0WBG.jpg
ibwjqL1ukVrxAQ.jpg

Next he comes across a cart and a stage mission! This one was significantly easier than the other rail shooting ride cause ya could move around abit. I sorta feel bad for blowing peeps up in such a manner even if they are the enemy.

iIq0CYXhQDVET.jpg
ibshEWIeAIktTc.jpg

That wild ride got even crazier towards the end when they sent the chapter 1 boss at you! Its such a large target that using the machinegun on it works super well. Easy to build up high 4 digit damage on it an eventually bring it down! With that sequence over with, Vincent got a nice safe place ta restock at. Though with Mako Reactor 0 looming ahead how safe a place can it be?

ionky7KbsYFuh.jpg
i3jW4BF2JVta0.jpg

Sadly when ya move on there's a bunch of snipers to deal with. I hate those guys forever an ever. In addition to that Omega report found earlier I found another G one. It seems to be written as hearsay yet some of that stuff sound awfully familiar... There is no time for dwelling on it with ambushes around every corner! Where do these people keep coming from?!

i7h8rdOiQ6HMn.jpg
ibgaB4PETpz87T.jpg

Sitting on this turret started a stage mission which turned out to be a huge pain. Guys and mechs charging & shooting at you from all over the place. I had to fire wildly because I could not even see 'em due to my handicap. And it ended with a pair of Guard Scorpion type mechs. Would anyone consider taking about 5 minutes to be 'swift'? Dunno but it was nice to blow away those shielded mechs for once.

iCIztwm4Rmyaq.jpg
ibcK4WejluQqFq.jpg

This place may be deep down but even it has a ground level which was been reached. Pretty big place for a former medical facility. Maybe the town had already existed and was converted into a medical place after it was abandonded/built over? Hey look, items! I can't figure out how to get 'em! They sit there taunting me ;_;

i0FlKebskjAtB.jpg
ibtfe1qIceUta9.jpg

Walking onto a bridge brought up them laser gates on both sides. A whole bunch of Deepground troops thought they had Vincent cornered an began jumping in after him in clusters. They were tough in numbers but when those numbers grouped close together they went down to magic real fast! Afterwards he got swept up in that weird people abducting phenomenon.

ibjkn1SWiTZkfH.jpg
ibt971yM19bEf3.jpg

But when Lucrecia's voice calls out saying part of him was born from the darkness so he can't be trapped by it, Vincent shrugs the weird dark stuff away! Shelke disses Vincent for being old yet helpless which gives her an idea of how Lucrecia felt about him. Over in memory-land Lucrecia is led to a certain place.

ibnZECxBwe7Htc.jpg
ibgVGW38S51ZKM.jpg

She's ultra excited to be there even though this Grimoire guy says she oughta relax cause the fountains not going anywhere. But she's got a one-track mind an later on at her lab she gets right to work.

iNgIUfsVvlg1h.jpg
ibaW1goUZ37hvU.jpg

Hey there Lucrecia... you're sounding mad scientisty! Grimoire agrees and again suggests she take a chill pill, to no avail.

iJVnVtUjgnPoh.jpg
ibzenRKEcVupcN.jpg

Her precious science ends up blowing up in their faces, resulting in Grimoire taking a hit in her place.

ituLXWhAOvDPc.jpg
i7d83ZTfuF4sH.jpg

Though his wound looks small and is only contained to his left arm its apparently fatal! Only now does Lucrecia think of someone other than herself and her dumb thesis.

Ya know I really don't get this whole fading away business. If people fade away when they die why do graves exist? And why do some people not fade away (Aeris, Dyne's victims, others)?

iC19EhoNV3Vjt.jpg
iuIzUZVOM5jJ9.jpg

From one memory to another! Shelke may try to shrug off death now, but back before she was fucked up in the head things were quite different! That's right, the Lil Shelke was sobbing it out at her moms grave o.o

iZwopvjrOcsts.jpg
ibsz3TtSuA3fkX.jpg

Lil Shalua was there to try and cheer her up! They'll meet their mom again someday, unless her bit of Lifestreamyness was sucked up by a Mako reactor and consumed. Back in Shelke's current state of mind, Shalua asks if she can finally let go...

Part 19: "so many gates"

ibx3JDJC0VOJjr.jpg
i6zQfrxgDlPjA.jpg

Just like their mom said, Shalua says they'll meet again, leaving Shelke crying alone again. Uh oh. Is the miracle needed to save her not meant to be? In the meantime Vincent's clearing out landmines after having walked on one, then blown one up in his face like an incompetent fool.

ibhVcjCXabM5hF.jpg
iMWVb5lRVR30Z.jpg

Some one/thing is constantly chucking explosive barrels over a wall. Vincent has to hurry through yet manages to get hit. This little bit can suck even harder as I would find out when I had to do it again. The second time through I got juggled by these things. Hit, get up, not enough time to move out of the way so you get hit again... bleh! Oho, I see ya down there mister turret. Not gonna get me! But the many guys stationed on the roofs in the surrounding area did. It was here that I racked up another death.

ixCh5LF0YGk5i.jpg
ibsQuKQVTFqMTS.jpg

It's at this point the chapter really opens up. There have been some multiple paths to go before now but they really throw 'em at ya here. This room was pretty amusing because ya think there's only a couple enemies here but no no no. Take some down an some more'll leap out from behind some crates and whatnot! With a choice of like 4 different paths to take, I end up in one which launches a stage mission. 100 enemies?!

ipNMpsQWmLI7f.jpg
ivbjAgiBm6d8R.jpg

Okies I'll give it my best... what? I got knocked out of the room and the gate closed. No re-entry. Fission Mailed. Moving along I'm starting to think Vincent is going insane. He's been mumbling stuff to himself this whole chapter. And now he's made up a mission for himself. Find 4 items. Buh?

i2MfpUhVvQ4AK.jpg
ibhB6MGDhGFfjN.jpg

There are alot of keycards and even more gates. This leads me to believe they're trying to fuck you over by making you waste one before ya get to this long line of 'em. The talking to himself stuff comes into play here cause when you're near a keycard he'll say something. So ya know to look around for it. The final(?) one was placed just over a cliffs edge by assholes. Can't jump back up to get it an backtrack to the gates neither. I imagine you need to jump off exactly above the keycard to grab it then quickly use your second jump to get back up.

i3e8mTR9yScCF.jpg
iliy0hKvahhbo.jpg

Once you're off that cliff its a straight jog ahead to Nero. Am I detecting some boys love in the air? Ah but like so many others teased at in stuff like this its prolly one sided. Protecting a loved one is a more noble cause than wanting to sit back and watch an unleashed Chaos trash the world. Nero's not to bad a guy afterall. Well except for the part that he's using his darkness power to keep Shelke trapped inside of him.

ibz9qIssqHCqbX.jpg
ieYY9V50Q9UU5.jpg

To get her back Vincent's gonna have to dance with him! Or rather make Nero dance by shooting at him. His tricks involve tossing darkness orbs at ya and splitting in three.

iBXaRAtlw8cm4.jpg
iULsG9WJQBYNZ.jpg

He's a shockingly easy boss overall. A nice respite from all the crap I just endured. He takes a good amount of damage from regular shots and offing his copies does damage as well. Course defeating the guy doesn't mean he's dead. He sucks Vincent up in the darkness, which allows Vincent to rescue Shelke!

ilBXqVzbWYWDd.jpg
irqYsgxARf2Ri.jpg

Nero isn't terribly surprised his power had no effect on Vincent so he decides for a different approach and starts charging up! But suddenly a voice calls out! "Even in a world where fear and despair reign over the heavens, you must never forget--where there is shadow, there is always light! That's right! Bask in my rays, evildoers! Feel the radiance of Wutai Super Ninja, Yuffie Kisaragi! Back and ready for action!"

ieD83zMYFlA2j.jpg

The appearance of a super ninja causes Nero to turn and hightail it outta there under the excuse that his bro is calling. Yuffie really must be a super ninja to have penetrated Deepground! Or... maybe she just fell down off a series of places.

ibcPvfQcM4mlfY.jpg
iPWZDgr93kLo9.jpg

C ranked. Only 2 deaths in a chapter as hard as this one makes me feel alil better about myself. My performance in the stage missions is a pretty sorry sight though. Yet to be fair to myself I was handicapped in the second one and got knocked outta the arena of the third one! Hardly seems like a fair evaluation.

iJm6szsawbDlb.jpg
iNKrHGmqlmo2Y.jpg

Vincent an Yuffie stick Shelke in a healing tube thingy they came across then formulate their plan of attack. Vincent does the hard stuff while Yuffie sneaks into the reactor to shut it off. Sneaking & espionage is befitting of a super ninja so it seems like a solid plan to me!

iX4QFnr70V0DW.jpg
ilGy95H4Db0jc.jpg

Yuffie runs off and Vincent's suddenly hit with some more old memories. While checking up on Lucrecia one day he happened to see some stuff on her monitors about his dad. She pops in and says its none of his business! Sheesh. That's harsh.

iB8SfcSMkbvnc.jpg
ibmfo5AVwdla8o.jpg

Lucrecia was just trying ta save herself from feeling more grief & guilt over the situation so its understandable. She never knew Vincent didn't blame her. Prolly cause he's so quiet & prone to simply watching.

iqKTU5QMQiypK.jpg
ipXa1VEdE2flA.jpg

Which leads her to her inevitable fate of sleeping with Hojo? Ewww. Not even gonna think about it!

ibbN7czCpzYcRb.jpg
ib0l8BX0LMUyZG.jpg

Back in reality Shelke asks why Vincent's doing all this fighting. To destroy Deepground and stop Omega from coming back? To put an end to their madness? He's not sure and neither is Shelke for that matter. Though it looks as if she's at least started ta see the brighter side of things.

Final Fantasy Adventure: Found the Girl on the airship, and Bogard stayed behind to help her, then I fell into Menos. I forgot all about the fact that Devius was still Medusa's son in this version. He's MUCH less sympathetic. I wonder if he's still related to Stroud? The Devius and Stroud fights are the most emotional moments of SwoM. In any case, I think I'm close to getting a Chocobo.

Final Fantasy Dimensions: So Nachtis has a catchphrase! It's "Who knows?" and like "Whatever" and "Not Interested" it is ANNOYING. As dumb as Sol is, he doesn't have a catchphrase at least. Oh and I found the Lost woods so I expect to get the Master Sword soon, what with there being elves and frogs everywhere.

Final Fantasy IV:The After Years: Finished Edge's Tale. Izayoi IS crazy, but at the same time, she's the only woman barring Rydia to ever take a stand for being seen as something other than a stereotypical woman. Even the Epopts just sit there and take it, but Izayoi is like "Master, I'm a Ninja first and a Woman second." So good on her, I guess. In any case, Izayoi is the only one of Edge's disciples I really like, and its a shame he's putting her off for Rydia, who is putting Edge off for Cecil, who occasionally reciprocates but tends to put her off for Rosa, who is putting off Kain for Cecil, who as King probably exercises King's Right and sleeps with brides on their wedding nights. So whenever he gets tired of Rosa and Rydia, Porom should be ripe for the plucking. Yes, Cecil is a dirty old man.

Final Fantasy VIII So I've just started this game now, and it's really very pretty. It's impressive the graphical leap from FF7 to FF8. I have to confess though, that, as far as character designs go, this is probably my least favorite game. Laguna and Edea are probably my only really preferred characters and designs, and I downright despise Seifer and will never, ever understand his popularity. In any case, I've cleared the Fire cavern and already I have 100 Fire, Blizzard and Thunder (fun fact, this is when such names became used in the English version. Fira, Blizzara, and Thundara were not used until this game, and Thunder was known off and on as Bolt.) and also Scan. Not much else to say, as this game is BABBIES EASY. There probably is not an easier Final Fantasy, unless maybe it is VI.

I never understood why the Junction system was considered difficult. I've always liked it together with the variety of ways to get magic. Well, I'm a fan of the growth systems in Final Fantasy games... except FFIV (and the original, but I excuse it because it was the fist one). I suppose that's the reason I don't really like the vanilla version. The DS remake is in another league, though.

It's not that it was difficult, it's just that it made magic obsolete in a way. I would've loved to have been able to cast all of the magic I had stockpiled instead of just casting Aura during every important fight. I had fun with the game and I like the entire universe, but the Junction system definitely needed some tweaking.

What you say about the magic is certainly true, but at least it encourages the use of the Item command, as it overrides the magic at the end of the game thanks to how easy is to get curative items and aura stones.

I think it's the only Final Fantasy where I use items more than magic.

Difficult? It's broken as heck is what it is. FF8 is the easiest FF of all time for the least amount of work. Y'ain't even really need to upgrade weapons. Just junction good magic to Squall and BOOM INSTANT INVINCIBLE. That said, I believe I've gotten all the Ultimate Weapons so far (I won't do it in 10!) so I'll likely shoot for Lionheart as well.

But Junction is BROKEN.

I like VIII's setting, visuals, and music. I'm not much of a fan of its cast or character designs, but as a game it's great fun. Even if the card sidequest can ruin friendships and lives.

In my opinion, the Junction system isn't difficult, but I thought many people found it pretty complex compared to other battle systems. At least that's what I got reading opinions about the battle systems.

About upgrading weapons, I only get Squall's gunblades and Selphie's Strange Vision. I don't care about minimal strength and accuracy bonus.

That's all it had going for it from what lil I played!

I can't understand how people call the game easy cause the game kicked my butt. Coming off of FFVII the DRAWing out of battles seemed sooo lame. Junction stuff made no sense to me an even if someone tried to explain it to me I'm sure I'd still fail to grasp wtf you're supposed ta be doing with it. I just wanted to shoot/slice people with Gunsword & Friends and occasionally use magic or the extremely long summons when I felt like it. Not after stealing it from an enemy to use it on them or another. FF is not supposed to be Kirby! iirc wasn't the way equipment got handled in that game way weird to? Instead of finding or buying cool new weapons with different models you just upgrade what ya got? Lame!

At first I was put off by it, too, but once you get your head around the idea of permanently expendable MP, you feel fine. It's almost an easier form of grinding.

After Aerith died I literally used Barret and Tifa until disc 3, when I swapped in Red XIII and C. Highwind. I didn't even use Vincent, and I like Vincent waaaaaaay more than I do C. Highwind. I'm still ambiguous about Yuffie. Her sidequests are a PAIN.

FF8 is all about the presentation. It has loads more going for it than XIII does, though.

It's super easy because you can junction spells to make you literally invincible, for one. Then there's the fact that in terms of gameplay, Squall may well be the most broken protagonist in the series. (I don't know how much Lionheart-Renzokuken does, but I'm pretty sure it beats both Terra's Quick-GenjiGlove-Offering-2xUltimaWeapon@9999HP and Cloud's similar Omnislash set-up, and it sure as hell beats even Cecil's Darkness + 4x Focus + Onion Sword combo.) But the enemies are just easily slaughtered. 6-8 are SUPER easy FF games once you figure them out. 8 is just megababbies.

Is this revenge for me saying I liked FFV more than FFVI?

Started playing FFT again on my phone "just 'cause." Didn't even realize it was the anniversary of the series. Guess I just felt the calling. Trying to beat that Nelveska Temple battle to get human Reis. It's a bitch, even with my arithmetician.

Cids in order of how awesome they are (excluding Cid Lufaine).

1. Cidolfas Orlandeau
2.Cid Pollendina
3.Cid Kramer (HAVE YOU SEEN HIS WIFE?)
4.Cidolfas Demen Bunansa (the only good villain not named Gabraanth in XII).
5.Cid Fabul IX
6.Cid del Norte Marquez
7.Al-Cid Margrace
8.Cid Previa
9.Cid Highwind (I mean come on, what does he contribute that Barret didn't?)
10.Cid Haze
11.Cid II
12.Cid Randell
13.All other Cids
14.Dr. Sid from FFTSW
15.Yen Sid from KH
16.El Cid sword from FFTA
17. Cid Raines, AKA the WORST CID IN THE SERIES.

Are you going for the hidden items? Because that's what REALLY makes that fight a pain.

It's weird that it is the 25th anniversary of FF - I just started replaying a bunch of FF/Square stuff out of the blue. I haven't touched any jrpgs in quite awhile either, so its doubly strange.

In any case, I'm in the midst of a huge Tactics Ogre binge and loving every minute of it, which isn't exactly FF, but point stands :p I'm also dabbling in FFT (PSP, slowdown patch - first time through that version) and FFTA2 (now I can see the inadequacies of this title from every angle!).

I also checked out Crisis Core briefly for the first time, I didn't like what I saw of it at all when it came out years ago... and years haven't changed that. It's pretty interesting and upsetting all at the same time to see the handful of games that marked the shift from the FF titles and Square games I enjoyed to the ones that I don't.

There are some brilliant designers at square, and their production quality is unmatched, but their writers/plot scripters, with a few very notable exceptions have gone in directions that I just don't enjoy.

The only actual FF title I'm tackling at the moment is FF4 PSP, which is a beautiful remake, and I'm flirting with the idea of actually, maybe, possibly finishing FF5 (I've tried to go through it three times, and all three, lost my save file in one manner or another, most 'recently' on the GBA when I broke my Lite and replaced it with an XL that can't play the cart :p).

You know, oddly, speaking of Kitase and Nomura specifically, I actually like Dissidia quite a bit, as well as Nomura's design work in Twewy and KH - I don't like it nearly as much in the mainline games.

My current looking forward forecast is kinda grim as well - Type-0 mimics the style of games that I haven't enjoyed at all, FF15 is a total unknown, Matsuno is gone from Square, and that only leaves the re-release of FF14 for me to look forward to with any level of interest and even that has caveats (sub fee :|).

So sort of a bittersweet revisitation I guess. It's unpleasant to replay their old output and see so many brilliant ideas and to play their more recent output (FF13/2, Kingdom Hearts, FF14 et al) and see wonderful production quality but bleh everything else. I know there are people that love the newer titles, I wish I was one of them :(

But that all sounds kind of downbeat, which it shouldn't, since this is a celebratory year for FF :V

If nothing else, it's impressive to me that the series has endured for this long. And the fact that they greenlit the TO remake gives me some hope that I'll still see quirky offshoot titles that will suit my tastes even if the main FF series goes in a different direction.

Banana Condom Cid is higher than Cid "Fuck Everything!" Highwind?

Tsk.

His concept of space travel was actually cool and his idealism was charming.

Banana Condom Cid just became cooler with that amazing revelation. Meanwhile, Cid "I am a whiter, less interesting Barret" Can't-afford-an-original-name is just laaaaamer.

But we all agree Cid Raines is the worst, right? Because he is the worst man to ever bear the name.

This is a really good reflective post, as in some instances, it mirrors some of my feelings with regards to the future of the series.

I'm hesitant to say that FF's 25th anniversary was on December 18th, but you're totally free to join in whenever you want. The barrier of entry may seem high, but it really isn't.

I'm almost positive that as they move on to another title, perhaps maybe they'll fashion a world and a cast of characters that may be to your tastes more than the cast that they fashioned for this generation. With that said, I've seen some FF characters I've liked this gen. Zack, Layle, Noel, etc. I ended up enjoying these characters' personalities quite a bit, especially as they (well, Zack and Noel) ended up growing up a little throughout the games they represent. I'm just in the mood for something new now.

Cid Raines had soooo much potential. I remember in the lead up to FF13's JP release, I thought he was going to be such a good character with some link to Lightning based on her military career. But nooooo. They just made him this throwaway character whose potential was utterly wasted.

As for FF6 Cid, it's not my fault his sprite looked exactly like that to me when he's really supposed to be wearing a coat! Look at it! Auuuugh!

I will say one thing - if Hiroyuki Ito is directing FF15, I have hope and then some. He is as important as Matsuno to me in the FF series.

I suppose I should give FF13/2/3 another try at some point. I simply couldn't make it last time, but I think I need to simply jettison any expectations or preconceived notions about FF if I'm going to enjoy them at all.

I like Nomura more when he isn't doing mainline FF, because he goes back to his own style instead of whatevers. His stuff for Dissidia, particularly the WoL's red costume, is some of my favorite.

You should hold hope for Type-0, though. It's not a bad game, and it does the whole FFXIII thing better than any other FNC game so far. It really feels like a Final Fantasy in setting, with crystals and airships and warring nations and Gardens. Gameplay is a bit of a departure, but for me it was awesome.

Banana Condom Cid is moving up in ranks. FF6 sprites were great like that. Gestahl was a dog, Terra wore a bikini, Celes a one piece, Shadow had on a snorkel. Oh, FF6, how I love thee. Only sprite in need of a change is Biggs and Wedge, to give them those kickin' horns.

And EVERYTHING in XIII was wasted potential. Jihl Nabaat turned out to be a great boss fight. IN XIII-2. Yaag Rosch is cooler than half your party. Pulse is an amazing world, and Oerba a beautiful ruin, but Hope leading you there has NO PURPOSE since there are . . . no answers there or anywhere.

Really, I feel like Oerba is where the plot falls apart. All they had to do was put some dang answers in Oerba and say "Hey through power of will/friendship/love you can change your focus!" then have Sazh go "I bet that's why ol' Crystal head got all Crystally back in the Ark." Then you're already a full step closer to a better conclusion.

Isn't it alil late in the game to use a title like this?

ivIqJbiuEU2TL.jpg

Welcome back to Mako Reactor 0! Enjoy some familiar sights with twists, along with all new locales! Prepare to have your ass beaten and fight some gargoyles! I died in the second room. It was full of bullet resistant soldiers, annoying little mechs, and even a dude with a rocket launcher. They are not toying around anymore.

ibeXLsQpJkgGkc.jpg
ibjUM7yqNO874g.jpg

Another room Cait Sith visited but this time it's loaded with moneys! 100 gil each -.-; But there is a surprise bug swarm when ya step on the Mako point! Moving right along we have a sequel to the previous stage mission!

Part 20: "wut"

ibwBugwpHCQV5A.jpg
iQimBb5xvqzvu.jpg

The gargoyles are still chumps but they make for a pretty neat battle given the setting. Descending further into the reactor, Vincent would come across a whole bunch of guys ready to do him in. Not only are they tough but they surround a pillar, so you're going to be shot at one way or another.

iuLAULjenaU5L.jpg
iqwX9TdcLp6k2.jpg

It is actually a mission to defeat this group! I give it a fair try at first but only get the crap beaten outta me. In the end I just rush towards the rooms exit. What awaits me there? Another mission! They're really out of ideas at this point.

iVw6RRgoJ0MPF.jpg
ibeYIglD7sda8Q.jpg

A couple of Deepground troops are seen pushing a turret through a hall. Best not to stop and let 'em use it right? Vincent downs 'em and sits on it himself causing some heavy dudes to charge him. Unfortunately the turrets in a real shitty position and can't even hit them! He took a few lumps on that encounter. He then cleans some nasty bugs outta a vent in the ceiling. What a nice guy!

isRFe9TXylnwx.jpg
ibnfKLbCFd2GII.jpg

This room here was an enormous catastrophe. It was full of (infinitely spawning?) bullet resistant goons. There are a buncha Mako points in the room but they're just not enough. Its good these peeps can be hurt by melee to, but they circle the room above you which means you gotta go after them! I thought the way out was through the top since thats where the soldiers kept coming from but I was wrong! On the bright side Vincent snagged yet another G report. This one makes the least sense yet. I dun get it at all.

ibbsu8FcMiNbcp.jpg
i4l8DofkTcCIm.jpg

Beyond that hellish room is abit of a breather. Sure its a boss fight but its nor particularly difficult! We just fought one of these last chapter ya know. Its accompanied by gargoyles but they're minor annoyances at worst. An even through the room is really narrow, dodging the rockets it fired was simple. Isn't it kinda stupid to have something like that in a reactor?!

iR8By0X7oUBjy.jpg
iQIMS23fNaptJ.jpg

Yuffie rejoins Vincent as he heads for the reactors core because why? What happened to their plan?? And what happened to Weiss? He's DEAD. That's anti-climactic!

izL7oL4P2Lxr7.jpg
iwXjJSorNyAoq.jpg

It seems Nero has learned how to bring back the dead. If true the Aeris revivalists are gonna go nuts! Vincent & Yuffie ignore the guy and decide to attack the reactor core but it won't be so simple. Yuffie gets drawn into Nero's darkness which is a very scary place! Vincent swiftly rescues her and its time for round 2!

ibqGrc3EB8sJ5t.jpg
ibywSeynaCj5t4.jpg

This guys second form is a mechanical spider? That threw me for a loop. Given his wing things I woulda expected... not this. Spider guy here has a barrier up and to remove it ya gotta shoot down some darkness spheres. Since they fire lasers at ya you would wanna do this anyway. When the barriers gone he starts raining down fiery rocks of death!

i3Cbvms1St74k.jpg
ittp8tQTF4G6x.jpg

One easy boss leads to another! Yup when the spider falls into the lava, he returns to his normal form. Nero's invulnerable except when firing at you. I'm really surprised I figured this out so quickly ^.^ An sure ya may get hit in these moments of weakness but its not a problem cause even a single shot drops his health like nobodys business.

ieQAE8Ri7SXmK.jpg
iqwo77kwYySU.jpg

After the guy is soundly defeated I get in some extra melee hits for good measure! Yet he still has the energy to march off towards his brother!

iVfeFNf9ClsFc.jpg
iSL2z7mL1dAAG.jpg

Yep. I totally saw this one coming. Evil villian bosses never have uses for their defeated pawns even if they are related or in love or whatever.

iRRHshViTxYeZ.jpg
ibzaER34HlVMTl.jpg

Vincent goes on the offensive yet his attacks do squat. Weiss is one with Omega which trumps Vincent & Chaos. But whenever someone brags they can't be beaten... They decide to remind the hero they've met before? I sure as hell don't remember encountering this dude in FFVII!

Whatever the case, he died back then yet had the foresight to back his mind up in the world wide web? That's one hell of a backup plan! He was kinda boned when the network went down, but once it went live again his scattered consciousness regrouped. I say he needs another name for his reunion, cause there already was a Neo one last year thanks to Kadaj & his bros.

Are you going for the hidden items? Because that's what REALLY makes that fight a pain.

Nah, I just want human Reis in my party this playthrough. Though I used Beowulf for a late-game playthrough, I've never really used her before.

Kinda wish I hadn't discovered the whole arithmetician-chameleon-robe-Holy thing, though. As if Cid wasn't cheap enough.

Does the phone version include the Dark Knight class? Because if so, that, plus Arithmeticians and Cid really breaks the game. I always get at least one Dark Knight by the end of chapter 1.
