There are people out there that believe some really ridiculous things about Obama and his presidency. Let's just say that I live in South Carolina and I hear plenty of crazy things. Things from "Obama wants to take our guns away" to " Obama supported the Benghazi terrorists".

The last straw hit me today when my father sent me this video.

The story is just dumb and mildly annoying, but the mini-rant this "wild Bill" guy goes on is insane. And then the comments on that page turn the sanity level down to zero.

So can anybody on GAF tell me where these misguided conspiracies are coming from? Why to conservatives think Obama is trying to turn America into a Socialist, Muslim nation?

Here are some examples of what these whack-o crazies believe:

But the fact remains that more than half of the population is dependent on the other half or another way to put it, “our tax dollars”. The working citizenry, those who actually produce wealth, simply cannot afford to keep paying for an increasing number of non-producing citizens. There is no way possible but the liberals want to keep passing legislation or issuing executive orders to implement more and more government handout programs (ie. Obamaphones). “Under the President’s FY13 budget proposal, means-tested (welfare) spending would increase an additional 30 percent over the next four years.”
This is totally false as far as I can tell. Why do people believe this?

..his Marxist ideology guides his decision-making on other issues.
What issues? Examples?

Obamacare asserts federal control over health care benefits and financing, establishes a complex one-size-fits-all health system, and centralizes America's health care decisions in Washington. Obamacare was a power grab disguised and promoted as a heart-felt effort for Nannybama to take care of the unfortunate masses who have been suffering under the existing system. Yes, the existing system needs fixing but not taken over and managed by federal bureaucrats currently comprised of left-leaning, pro-abortion, liberals appointed by Odumber.
There are bound to be some losers and loopholes in the new system, but this is crazy-talk, right?

he continues in his efforts for wealth redistribution and it will hit you one day.
huh? What bill was that?

slick maneuver to increase spending. Why does he want us to go bankrupt? Why does he say “We don’t have a spending problem, we have a healthcare problem? Why did he say share the wealth?
He wants the US to go bankrupt?

Of course Obama is bent on the destruction of the US and the American way of life. That is what his "fundamental transformation of America" is. You can't transform something fundamentally without destroying its essence. If the essence isn't destroyed, it isn't fundamentally different.

In looking at Obummer’s statements, upbringing, family, friends and associates and their beliefs, it is obvious that this man does not have traditional mainstream American values. He defies the constitution, the constituency, congress, and the American citizens.
Defies the constitution??!! How so?

However, there is one program where increases has been phenomenal, food stamps. This is not due to any action to increase spending in this area but due to a failed stimulus caused by Obama’s economic illiteracy and implementation of the discredited Keynsian economic theory. Unemployment and the number of people who have given up looking for work (could it be that unemployment benefits are so good that it is better than working?).

he does not believe in our current system of government. This is evidenced by his disregard of the constitution. He seems to be preparing for a total revamping of the US and to counter the civil unrest that would create, he is arming the Homeland Security forces with heavy armament, billions of rounds of ammunition, armored vehicles, etc. There are no facts behind this assumption so don’t ask for them, only my observations leading to logical conclusions. In his directive on Homeland Security it states as one of the goals “How to ensure a seamless capability within the White House to coordinate planning for the Federal Government's response to domestic incidents of all kinds;”
This could remind some of the creation of Germany’s SS.

Regarding Benghazi:
arranging the provision to the jihadists rebels with arms & supplies, most probably. The predominant theory I have heard is that this was supposed to be a kidnap and rescue of the ambassador with no resistance. However, contrary to orders, some did resist and killed many terrorists. This angered them and things just got out of hand. Maybe there were spies and informants there. Was it better to let them fall into the hands of the jihadists or rescue them?

Sorry for the length and range of topics. But if anyone wants to jump in here, it's much appreciated.

Go back through the internet and find anti-President extremists from the past.

They say pretty much the same thing--surface understandings of complex issues that they got from biased sources. Complete with references to Hitler as necessary.

This is not new, and will not change anytime soon.

Best you can do is make peace with that reality, because you won't be changing anyone's minds anytime soon.

I'm not an NPC. And neither are we.
They're crazy, my dad is the same, he has Fox news on all the time. I just don't talk politics with him.

I live in SC and I usually only read this crazy shit in the opinion section of my local newspaper. Its been studied that people will believe whatever they find that aligns with their viewpoint, regardless of whether or not it is plausible.

Help you understand...

Hmmm...

Racists actively assert wild theories to avoid simply saying they don't want a black man running the country

They see their once privileged position and outdated conservatism dissolving away and they don't know what to make of it. Although Obama is much more closer to a republican than a democrat and pretty fascist to boot, the irony.

my parents don't much care for obama either. I don't really know enough to argue with them.

but this morning they also told me that one of their friends was worried about his son having a gay teacher. my parents agreed with him and said they would be concerned about their own children having a gay teacher. however, my mom met the teacher and decided he's a really good teacher so she doesn't care. unless the dude is a pedophile as well, being gay doesn't mean he's gonna be interested in little boys. whatever. for the record, this is just my mom. I haven't talked to my dad about it and probably wont'.

PoliGAF could probably help you out on the various points.

But when someone is so far gone, there is not much point in talking about it. They've already got their mind made up. They'll ignore and dismiss evidence that refutes their view and believe nonsensical and unsupported 'evidence' for their views.

I was going to post the EXACT same thing. I've had to block my dad on facebook because all his posts just him sharing some right wing rant he found. These people have lost their minds.

I don't mean to alarm you but you have dogs on your face
Paranoid fear of government and liberals + hates the blacks.

Why are there so many anti-Bush extremists (many of whom reside on this forum)? Same reason.

I've never seen a bigger false equivalency in my life.

People hated bush for illegally invading a country and killing thoisands of innocent people. People hated billy because he was getting blowjobs in the oval office.

People make up reasons to hate obama. Sure there may be policies that people always oppose re: historicL president hate. But I'd expect people to be harsh for gitmo ndaa bail outs etc..

I'm sure the anti-Obama extremists would say the same thing (in reverse obviously).

Extremist hatred is extremist hatred, right-wing or left-wing.

Bush launch a huge war for WMDs that did not exist. And he pushed a culture war issues that grated on many people.

That said, there are (a few) good things he did. Attack Afghanistan (although that was a no-brainer), the "no call" list was great, his help to provide drugs for AIDS in Africa was great, etc.

Funny as hell how this centre-right politician has been ficticiously labelled as socialist (and worse).

Obama is 95% Republican anyway.

Only the dumbest of the dumb actually believe this crap. The rest use it as an immature front for their agendas.

And candidates for government positions (or people already in those positions) use this crap as part of their platform during and after their campaigns.

The truth is actually very much the opposite.

As a Democratic Socialist Libertarian, I think there is a lot to be disappointed about when it comes to Obama.

The Anti-Bush people are no where to the extreme of the Anti-Obama people. Not even close.

No, of course not

Pretty much this. Heck, you can go all the way back to the Whigs versus the Democratic-Republicans to find ridiculous accusations and assertions about the other party. America has been built on divisive rhetoric and character assassinations. It's what we are.

While they're obviously visual embellishments, you do realize there are certainly reasons for those messages to be true, right?

I don't have enough time in the day to list the amount of fuck ups Bush is responsible for and Cheney is as much a war criminal as Henry Kissenger.

My dad is one of these people are well. You know, a moron.

The type of person that will complain that Obama golfs too much and when presented the facts that Bush took more days off compared to Obama by a large margin, shrugs it off as if it's made up.

Then can we try Obama as a war criminal for his drone strikes?

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, no matter how much you disagree.

Bush was called a moron due to his public speaking, and evil for invading a country illegally. Now tell us which obama point stems from reality, as op has posted them.

Obama is a muslim terrorist. Nothing like that has been publicly charged as obamas birth certificate. And yes above, race wasn't an issue to attack for budh.

There is certainly merit in that, but maybe that suggests that the office of President of the United States should be subject to a lot more scrutiny than it currently is. Clinton got impeached for a blow job. At least make sure your Congress gets its priorities right.

As a Democratic Socialist Libertarian, I think there is a lot to be disappointed about when it comes to Obama.

What I meant was that people use these scary sounding terms (Benghazi, socialism, muzlins) when speaking to their constituents or for their campaigns. Instead of actually prodding Obama in places where he doesn't have a good track record they take a different route and scare them with these terms and phrases that are sometimes rooted in racism. See above.

And I agree that there is plenty to be disappointed about.

Bush hate was based on things he DID. Before he did anything he was regarded as a vaguely adorable moron by the left, all the extreme hate came after he became the War President.

Obama hate is based on imaginary fantasies of what he (implausibly) might someday do.

Certainly Bush was not the perfect president but the hatred against him (just like the hatred against Obama) go well beyond what is reasonable for anyone, left or right, black or white.
