Nothing out of the ordinary for me last month. I tried obtaining some Steam Trading Cards and lo and behold, you can actually make a decent profit from these cards. So I ended up crafting a badge and actually got a discount coupon for Defenders Quest, a game I actually want. So I waited for some of my cards to get sold and I ended getting free money to actually buy the game!

For impressions, Defenders Quest was kind of a unique Tower Defense game with the RPG elements, really cool, enjoyable and a different take on the genre. Tales of Xillia, I must say is an impulse buy for me, I was planning to pass on it but ended up having some extra money to get it. I kust need to sell it again to recoup my expense on the game. For a Tales game, I think its great though I still prefer Tales of Vesperia. I really can't say much but all I can say about the game is "This is a Tales game alright", Definitely what you expect with great battle system and a decent story, thats basically it. Plants vs Zombies 2 is free, so why not? Tower Defense games are one of my favorite genres. While the game is completely playable without IAPs, the design kinda sucked because the game forces you to grind and replay stages over and over to proceed, which I didn't like. The game is basically littered with IAPs that gets in the way with the game progression. I'd say that the game feels like PvZ1.5, New plants, new zombies, new gimmicks per stage but I'd say PvZ1 is still the better game.

After I finished Tales of Xillia, I decided to finish my backlog with my unplayed games from the Steam Sale. Rain-slick 3&4 are really great games as expected from Zeboyd Games. I love how they went wild with the gameplay mechanics and love how different each game are. Add also that I loved the music in 4. Now I can't wait for Cosmic Heroine! Since I don't want to force myself to play a game just for the sake of "beating" them, I marked Mana Khemia and Raidou 1 as beaten. No point in playing if I'm not in the mood or it feels like I'm not enjoying. I already played both games for a good amount, and I think I got what I wanted from both.

For what I'm playing right now, well I'd say mostly random games. I basically finished my backlog since I worked on it last year. For now I'm playing FIFA because the new season just started so I'm in the mood for football. Also thinking of replaying SMTIV, but I feel like its going to drag a lot for me after three consecutive plauthroughs since July. Theres also an option on replaying some old game, and specifically Suikoden II since I haven't replayed the game for years. And I'm really hoping that I won't buy any games this month since I'm saving my money for Etrian Odyssey Untold and Pokemon Y next month.

Gone Home (Steam) - I've got nothing original to say about it. People know why it's brilliant and I agree.
To The Moon (Steam) - Played this right after Gone Home. I'm starting to cheer for more games that can be finished in a single sitting, if they can make me feel richer as a human being like these two did.
Stacking (Steam) - Put this on hold a while back and went back to finish the last few levels. Delightful idea and great execution.

Plants vs. Zombies (8/9) - WOW. I know people fawned over this game years ago but I was so burned out on tower defense games so I never gave it a shot until this month. Man now I wish I hadn't waited so long. So simple yet so fun.

Ittle Dew (8/23) - From Software could learn a lot from this game on how to make a Zelda clone. If you like the dungeon puzzles more than combat in your 2D Zelda games this is for you. The puzzles can be quite difficult and there are tons of shortcuts if you solve the harder challenges.

• Assassins Creed III beaten: Meh. The only things worth mentioning about this game are the naval missions and the new character animations. Everything else is a rushed, broken mess. I'm glad i stopped caring about this saga.​
- 09/14:
• Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus beaten: Not bad. The port is decent (30fps, but at least it is native res). ​
- 09/09:
• Killzone Mercenary beaten: Finally a decent fps on vita. Graphics are outstanding, the melee touch controls are terrible and the campaign is a bit short, but replayable in many ways. The multiplayer is pure fun.​

I also realized that Beyond: Two Souls is a day 1 purchase for her, which will automatically make it a +1 purchase for my list since I also want to play it. Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together (PSP) is next. Around 50 hours according to HowLongToBeat but Final Fantasy Tactics is my favorite game of all time, so there's a strong chance I'll take longer with this one. The end is within my grasp! No way I'll be able to clear my backlog before Beyond: Two Souls comes out, so that impending +1 is looming over my head. Even worse is there's usually some Buy 2 get 1 Free sales in mid-October and my backlog of 2 could easily turn into 5 or 8! This cannot happen, not with zero so close! Stay strong, fellow backlog warriors!

Another month where I did not finish anything. I got distracted by Monster Hunter so I did not finish SMT IV. Hoping to do a few horror games for October. No planned purchases but as always cheap bundles nom nom nom.

Told myself that I'm not buying a new game in September but I ended up buying one. But it isn't too bad since I imported Dodonpachi Saidaioujou way cheaper than what I expected it to cost me. Since I'm not really that knowledgeable in shmups, I actually don't know how it ranks among the other CAVE games but I really enjoyed how it felt like Daioujou as opposed to the mechanics introduced in Daifukkatsu. Been playing the game ever since I got it and really loving it. Probably my shmup of the year too.

For the whole month other than my purchase, basically spent playing various games, Football Manager because of the new season, FIFA11 sometimes(not buying FIFA14), my still unfinished 5th playthrough of SMTIV, also played various Pokemon games in preparation for X&Y, also played Diablo II again after I tried the Diablo III console demo.

For now, I'm waiting for Etrian Odyssey Untolds release, and then Pokemon for next week which will be all I ever play for the whole month. Ace Attorney 5 would probably be a November purchase for me but we'll see.

Secret of Mana (9/12) - So yeah I'm a little late on this one. I've played SoM dozens of times but I always got bored/bogged down hunting orbs and grinding magic levels at the end. Glad I can finally check this one off the list.

Fortix (9/13) - I was really surprised with this one. Nothing amazing but it was a fun distraction for a few hours.

MacGuffin's Curse (9/15) - I couldn't stop playing this. The puzzles were fantastic and some of them were incredibly hard. Clearing the harder rooms felt so satisfying. One of the best purchases I've made this year.

The Tiny Bang Story (9/18) - A fun, minimalist hidden-picture type game with some adventure style puzzles thrown in. An entertaining way to spend a quiet evening.

A Virus Named Tom (9/26) - Congratulations, Ni no Kuni, you're no longer the worst game I've played this year. This game is terrible. Why make quality puzzles when you can just throw a lot of stupid crap at the player. Poor controls make an already frustrating game an absolute chore.

I honestly can't remember the last game I "finished". I play WoW, SF IV and 2k series way too much. I guess I'm done with 2k13 now since 2k14 came out, but since I didn't buy that during this year it doesn't count I guess.

I've started streaming on Twitch, and I've decided to only play games I haven't beat before. So now I actually have something to motivate me through these games. Mario & Luigi: Dream Team (3DS) - Rented and finished. It's about a dozen hours longer than it needs to be, and I hated that there were certain Bros. moves that I just couldn't pull off very well. There were many things to love about it though like the giant Luigi fights, and the final few bosses. I might pick it up one day but I'll be sure not to try and finish it as quickly. It's really easy to get burnt out on it.

Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons (Steam) - Outside of the frequent, though brief, awkard moments of controlling two characters at once, this was a thrilling experience. Wonderful visuals and a sequence near the end that has no peer in the emotional impact of playing through it. I tell ya, that part took my breath away. It was like the "crawl Snake through this microwave tunnel" moment, but for grown-ups.
Retro/Grade (Steam) - Really liked my time with it. It's not a long game but I played on Medium and wanted to do better than I did. Seems like a worthy title to come back to for a good challenge and a rhythm fix.
Rayman Legends (Steam) - This game is leagues ahead of Origins in its design, visuals, and fun factor. I thought it would be a while before Origins was surpassed as a platformer but of course the sequel would be the game to do it. Ubisoft is really being smart with Rayman this generation. My 6 year old son says Rayman is his favorite game character, even ahead of Mario.

Currently Playing:

GTA V (360) - Done with the main missions already but that happened in October so I'll mention it next month. Still want to tackle all the Strangers / Freaks and assassination missions I missed anyway.

Paper Mario: Sticker Star (3DS) - I threw this away in disgust last year when I realized how basic the systems were. Specifically, that there was no point in fighting enemies because you only gain stickers, or coins to buy more stickers, which are only good for fighting more enemies... Why am I playing this again? Well, the music and general aesthetic are still absolutely amazing, I guess. Ah well, I'm just FAQing my way through so I can call it finished at some point.

Dark Souls (Steam) - I love this game to pieces and I've never finished it. I just reached Ornstein & Smough which is where I gave up on my first attempt at this game on PS3. Hopefully I'll have better luck this time.

Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together (PSP) is beat. With Final Fantasy Tactics being my favorite game of all time, I was worried this would dethrone it. Turns out not so much, I was happy to be playing another SRPG but I found the maps too large, too many units in play, and the maps encouraged bottlenecks more often than not. I also don't like that it starts new classes at level 1 and if you have to change weapons to go with it, your weapon proficiency sucks with the new one. I ended up leaving all my characters at the class they started at with 2 exceptions that I changed very early. Also dead bodies on the ground interfering with arrow and spell trajectory makes me rage. I'm happy I played it but I appreciate the changes they made between the original TO release and my beloved FFT.

Puts me at +20, for now.

This is my first month posting, I'm hoping I get all the rules down correctly. So, yeah, didn't include any multiplayer games, any strategy games that I felt I put a requisite amount of time in to justify the purchase, or any games that I got in a bundle and had no intention of playing. It would take me at least another hour or so to gather those up...

September has been an eventful month for the backlog, in the sense that it's been a growing month rather than a shrinking one. Unfortunately, I've had less and less time to play lately, due to the preparation for my FE/EIT exam; however, once that passes, I'm hoping that I get back to clearing backlog in a business-like fashion.

Even so, October is going to be terrible. Although I've already beaten Wind Waker HD, I have added 6 more games to the backlog [with, seemingly, at least two more on the way]. But, with the cold winter months ahead, there's going to be a lot more staying at home, so things bode well for the November and December updates.

The Last Story is beat. I loved it! The combat is fun once it opens all the way up and the characters are likeable. The story a bit typical but it's easy for me to dismiss with how good everything else is.

Wow, guys. It's been a diligent year for me, but this is it. Everything I've been working towards since joining the Backlog Blitz last year. Unfortunately then, I still asked for games as gifts so when the holidays and my birthday rolled around, it undid a lot of the progress I made. This year I was more strict about new purchases and very dedicated to the backlog and I'm down to 1 left. To be fair, it's Beyond: Two Souls which only came out last week. I know it's a shorter game and I don't plan on playing more than once, so this really is it. It's like hitting a home run but you still have to run the bases to make it count, I'm closing in on home plate.

Beyond: Two Souls is beat! I loved it! My wife and I spent a good hour talking about the differences in our playthroughs after as well, she watched me play most of mine and my ending. It's great being able to talk to her about it.

I did it, everyone. At the end of last year I made a vow to not buy any video games until I clear my backlog, with 4 exceptions. I ended up buying 5 already and 1 of those original 4 is still to come (South Park). Even though I broke the rule a little bit I was still able to remain diligent and fight temptations along the way. The goal was to get to 0 before Black Friday so I'm a month ahead of schedule, too.

So now what? I plan on reading The Hobbit now just so I can sit at 0 games for a little bit. I'll probably buy a game after, especially now that I have a whole wishlist of games I skipped over to catch up on and they're cheaper now.

My rules going forward:
For games I hope to follow a 1 in 1 out policy
I will allow myself to go as deep as 3, in case there's a buy 2 get 1 free sale.
It better be a REALLY good deal to put me over 3 but I'll allow it if the deal is that sweet.
Right now video games are probably 90% of my free time. I hope to balance it so that it's equal parts video games, movies, books, comics, and tv shows.
I'll be buying a house and hopefully have some kids soon, so I may want to ween myself away from games starting now.
I plan on getting a 3DS and a Vita for either Black Friday or if there's no good sales, I'll ask for them for my bday and Xmas (same month). Portable gaming should be much easier once the future responsibilities roll in.
I don't plan on getting next gen systems until my must buy games come along.

So have I graduated from this thread now? I think I'll finish out the year at least, but am I allowed to keep posting in the 2014 thread and on? To be honest, this thread really helped me stay on track and I'm not sure I can stay low without it.

@Brashnir, none of us would be here if you hadn't created the thread last year. Your thread (and this one) is what caused me to get serious. This might sound dumb, but clearing my backlog is honestly going to change my life for the better so I've got you and everyone else providing support here to thank.
