FAQ:

How do I know when I completed a game?
That's up to you, it could be completing the game or playing 10hrs+ if it has no ending or a MP game. PS: You can do replays, as long as all the games are completed in 2014.

Any other rules?
Nope! Just have fun and see if you can play 52 games in one year.

Alright I can get behind this...

Game 1: Pokemon X - DURATION PLAYED (4.3 hours in)
# I bought this game after getting Y but I am starting it as a female trainer named after my daughter. She falls asleep on me every night and I spend an hour playing handheld games while she is passed out.

Game 2: Super Mario U- DURATION PLAYED (10.13)
# I started a new game with my sister in law over Christmas. Just beat it 1/1/14. Not bad, liked it a lot actually the challenges were fun.

Game 3: Zombie U - Duration Played (11:45)
# Great game, amazing survival game a must grab for any WiiU owners.

Game 4: Fire Emblem Awakening- DURATION PLAYED (73 hours)
# My first Fire Emblem game, and a real fun treat. Played on hard classic and did not have a problem.

Game 5: Pokemon Y- DURATION PLAYED (48 hours)
# Picked this back up a few weeks ago to clear it out of my backlog, still have to finish X.

Game 6: Torchlight (14 hours)
# Great loot game, and it reminds me a lot of the magic of Diablo.

Game 7: Diablo (32 hours)
# Hated the auction house, best thing ever was Blizzard taking it out.

Is it completed or played? This year I played 69 games but only completed (beat the final boss/saw the credits or played a lot of if it didn't have an ending) 29

I'll take that challenge. Should I only update this post?

I'm throwing in the gauntlet on this.

Game 1- Legend of Zelda The Minish Cap. Finished 16 hours.
Playing this on my 3ds from the ambassador program, first time through the game. I started this a bit before New Years, but decided to count it here. Anyways, was a solid game. I didn't know how to fuse kinstones until like... halfway through (oops) so I missed a bunch of secrets and hearts, but it was still fun and I think the first 2-d Zelda I've beaten. I have Link Between Worlds from Christmas that I'm waiting to start playing but can get to in a few weeks now.

Game 2- Soul Sacrifice. Finished Jan 9. 20 hours.
Another game I played but never finished from last year, thanks PS+! Playing this one solo, I'll define completed as beating the story mode. Beat final boss today, went mainly divine. I'm marking this one done but it was fun and I think it's something I could see myself coming back to. I'm actually surprised I enjoyed this one as much as I did. I'm not big on MH when I tried, but I think having the variety in weapons (via spells) I could bring with me is what did it for me here.

Game 3- Bravely Default Demo. Finished Jan 10, 5 hours
I'm going to make a demo/DLC category, and only putting lengthier demos here. I'm willing to start with BD which had a great demo and convinced me to pick up the full game by the end. I put 5 hours into it, and since it's a side story and not in the main-game, I'm considering it a Demo/Lengthy-DLC for this list.

Game 4- Bike Rider DX Finished: Jan 12, 4 hours
Played this on the vita after getting it for free as well. Decent fun, semi-challenging at points (I swear the third level of each world is the hardest part) but not too bad overall.

Game 5- Spelunky. Finished: Jan 20, No clue hours
This was a pretty fun game. Definitely liked getting progressively better as I went on and on, and it was addicting up to the end (though the final part was way more frustrating than the rest). Making good progress this year, which is good because I just KNOW I'm going to slow down in the second half.

Game 6 -Metal Gear Rising Revengeanance. Started: Jan 9. Finished: Feb 1. 14 Hours so Far.
Fantastic game, was a blast to play and those bosses were fantastic. Then I beat both the DLCs, Jetstream Sam's was hard but really satisfying. Blade Wolf was ok, not as good. as Sam's or the story and kinda a sour note to end the game on. Also I think overall I enjoyed W101 more than this (beat that last year and it was easily one of my GOTY contenders).

Game 7- Link Between Worlds. Finished Feb 10. 16 hours
Fun game, bit shorter than I expected even finding all the Maiamais. Not sure what I touch next.

Game 8- Dota 2. Finished: February. Too many hours
I quit playing Dota. It just made me mad, but I hit my 2000 MMR goal, took me like 16 matches so... I'm done with it. Finally.

Game 9- Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate. Finished: March 18. 30 hours?
Finished the low rank village quests, and going to say completed. I'll probably play online a bit still to get gear up and have some fun, but going to toss this here since I'm done with the main quests.

Game 10- Super Mario 3D World. Playing. 20 hours
Still playing this, need to get all the levels before I mark it as done. That'll take me a bit.

Game 11- Jet Set Radio. Started: January. Finished: March 19. 5 hours
Played this on PC, got it out of my backlog and done!

Game 12- NBA 2k14. Started last year, probably about 30 hours total
Beat a whole season as myplayer mode, got most improved player and a bunch of scoring titles. Did not win MVP. I hate video game Kevin Durant AND real one now.

Game 13- Mitsurugi Kamui Hikae. Started: March. 1 hour
I wanted to like this, but it was so bad. The combat was weird and all the frames at the end of moves just weren't fun. I couldn't take it, got to the end of second round of missions and stopped. Never coming back. It's done for me.

Game 14- Bravely Default. Started: Feb 28. something like 40 hours
This was great! Up to chapter 6. Then it got REALLY tedious. At the end I was forcing myself to finish it.

Game 15- Mario Golf GBC. Started Last Year. Took maybe 8 hours?
I've always been a sucker for Mario Golf, loved this game too, looking forward to the 3ds version too.

Game 16- Half Minute Hero 2. 12 Hours.
A fun sequel to a PSP game I really enjoyed, was really fun and worth the purchase. More of you guys need to play it.

Game 17- Velocity Ultra. 3 Hours
A surprise game from PS+ I had never tried but really enjoyed.

Game 18- God of War
First time I played this, got it from the God of War collection on Vita... kinda disappointed. I dunno, a lot of the non-combat (whichwas too much of the game given the controls) was just poor controlling, holding the back touchpad was awful too. Still... I guess I have to play the second.

Game 19- Hotline Miami
I'm actually shocked I beat this. HM is one of those games I just never understood, but I got it on vita from PS+ and decided to give it a second shot (my laptop played the game horrendously slow, I hated it). Ended up really enjoying the gameplay (though the soundtrack is still way overhyped IMO).

Game 20- Redshirt
I just got bored of this. Way too boring and not fun.

Game 21- Lone Survivor
Decided to give this a shot, even though I'm not typically into adventure type games. Figured the survival horror elements would make me enjoy it more, sadly didn't like t as much as i hoped.

Game 22- Gex Enter the Gecko
This game was one of my favorites growing up, I'd replay it a ton. Now it'sjust kinda a mess with horrible camera controls. Just awful...

Game23- Guild Wars 2
Got my second level 80, so I'm marking this here.

Game 24- CounterStrike Global Offensive
Got my rank up, so marking this as done as well.

Game 25- SHOVEL KNIGHT
Fantastic game, I really REALLY enjoyed playing this one.

Game 26- Mario Kart 8
I unlocked everything so I'm considering this "beaten" but still play from time to time.

Game 27- Fire Emblem 12
Beat the translation patch.

Game 28- Dino Crisis
Not a huge fan of this at all, bought it for $1 and found it very frustrating though good atmosphere.

Game 29- Muramasa
Was a fun game though a bit shorter than I would have liked.

Game 30- Kirby Dream Land
Way too easy, but was enjoyable while I played it.

Game 31- Pocket Trains
A mobile game I got way too into, was awesome though and I really enjoyed it. I now have a train empire over the entire world.

Game 32- Metal Slug XX
God I'm terrible at Metal Slug, too much bullets I have issues paying attention to.

GAME 1: DLC Quest - 49 minutes
Kinda funny. Short enough to where the joke doesn't quiiiiite get old, which is good. Music is catchy!

GAME 2: Castlevania LoS Ultimate - 27 hours
Eh. Doesn't really do it for me as
Dracula's origin story
. Also, way way too long with too little variation in the combat for a game in this genre. Like, I don't know if I fell asleep one night and left the game running or what, but even if that was the case I still feel like the game was several hours longer than it needed to be. At least the soundtrack's good I guess.

GAME 3: Phoenix Wright: Trials and Tribulations - 24 hours
Definitely fell asleep while playing this one. Hadn't played it since it launched originally so picked it up and played it again. Definitely one of the best in the series - got a little misty-eyed when they found
the picture Misty kept inside the Kurain Master charm.

GAME 4: 9 Hours, 9 Persons, 9 Doors - 3 hours
I keep pushing Trauma Team down, but I kept hearing how omgmindblowing this game's story is and I ran across it in a Gamestop finally, so why not. I am intrigued so far.

GAME 5: Trauma Team - 2 hours
I played the whole Trauma series on both Wii and DS except for this one...guess it came out at a weird time and I totally missed it. Just got it from Amazon so I'll dive into it in the next day or so.

Saw the "FAQ", didn't answer my question :p

The "rule" says "Play 52 games!" Then the FAQ says "How do I know when I completed a game?" when "completing" a game technically wasn't part of the rules

tl;dr I'm a pedant

At least ten hours of gaming a week seems a bit steep, especially with no variation.... Also, if people actually want to beat the single player games they like, some of which would likely be 50+ hours, gaming is going to quickly become a full-time job for them.

I'd be willing to try something like this to clear my backlog and get some writing practice if the requirements weren't so intense, but as-is, it sounds pretty miserable. Seems like everyone's gonna just quit when they find a game they actually like.

Thats insane, I probably saw the credits roll on like 4 games this year.

ItAintEasyBeinCheesy

it's 4th of July in my asshole
Can try, got enough backlog for it.

Game 1: BioShock - 10hrs 04/01/14 - Completed
# Going through all the BioShock games since I haven't played them. Pretty good, ending was a bit eh, dunno, seemed like there was multiple endings?.

Game 2: Gunman Clive - 2hrs 05/01/14 - Completed
# Not bad, dunno. Just a game.

Game 3: BioShock 2 - 8hrs 11/01/14 - Completed
# Pretty good, don't think it was as good as the first, didn't like the weapons as much but the rocket spear was cool.

Game 4: Gunpoint - 5hrs 01/04/14 - Completed
# Great little game, worth playing

Game 5: The Swapper - 5hrs 05/04/14 - Completed
# Fun puzzles, visually pretty awesome. Nice game, Zero G should have been used more super fun. Finished, good puzzle game worth a play through.

Sure if you change that 52 games to 52 hours of Dota 2. I'll have that shit done in no time.

I do not know what is more depressing, that you play that much Dota 2 in a short ammount of time. Or that I actually think that 52 hours of Dota 2 should be considered more than one game entry.

Subbed, I'm up for this. I always fail these GAF challenges but for this one I'm gonna go one louder. I'm gonna play the +/- game and beat 52 more games than I buy. Yep. 'Backloggery' type games, too. Not random quick runs through Street Fighter or Cave shmups.

*post claimed for updates*

Game 1: 3D SONIC THE HEDGEHOG (3DS) (2 hours)
Finally got around to actually beating this game (with all 6 chaos emeralds) 23 years after first playing it on Mega Drive. A classic and a favourite but this game is actually kinda BS. Green Hill zone is amazing and it gets progressively worse from there. Same criticism the Lost World games get, ironically. The new 3D effect is cool.

Game 2: RAYMAN FIESTA RUN (iOS) (8.5 hours)
Completed 72/72 levels 100% and the 4 super-hard stages done. Never again! Like the first Run game, you can play 80% of it in a couple of hours and have a blast, then spend hours retrying the same 20%. The hover levels in particular are horrible. Still one of the best games on iOS though.

Game 3: ATTACK OF THE FRIDAY MONSTERS! (3DS) (2.5 hours)
Picking some more low hanging fruit here to get me going. Got this on sale recently, it's very short. Like a little Japanese short story in videogame form. I liked it but I enjoy any kind of interactive fiction that messes with your perception of the world in the way this does. The artwork is nice enough, very Studio Ghibli which adds to the charm, but the 3D models are very DS-like.

Game 4: MIGHTY SWITCH FORCE (3DS) (6 hours)
Finished it and beat the par times on all 21 stages for the 100%. Fantastic little game. This was actually one of the first games I bought for 3DS but I guess at the time I was more in the mood for a Mega Man type action game than a platform/puzzle game... started a new save on a whim a couple of days ago and had an absolute blast. One of Virt's best sountracks, too. I have the sequel in the backlog too, looking forward to getting to it.

Game 5: LEAGUE OF EVIL 2 (iOS) (3.5 hours)
Another speedy little mobile platformer, beaten with all the suitcases. It seems to just kind of end after the last chapter but as far as I can tell that's all there is, I guess I should grab League of Evil 3 now. Much, much easier than the first game which had a handful of levels that were rage inducing.

Game 6: BROTHERS - A TALE OF TWO SONS (PC) (3 hours)
Short but sweet (and sad) little story. I really liked the gameplay in this, it was like Ico but without the crappy parts of Ico (no block pushing, no pulling Yorda around, no annoying combat). Lovely graphics and sound. Not that I don't like long games but this is one of those games you get more out of in 3 hours than some games give you in 30. I totally forgot Starbreeze made this until the credits rolled.

Game 7: METAL GEAR RISING: REVENGEANCE (PC) (12 hours)
I don't know why I didn't grab this on 360/PS3 when it first came out because I love Metal Gear and I love Platinum games and this is a great blend of both. I felt like the whole game was an experience in learning how to play the game, which is how a good action game should be. I'll definitely go back for another play through (maybe without listening to so many codecs next time).

Game 8: SUPER MARIO 3D WORLD (WII U) (20 hours)
Possibly the greatest videogame ever made. I love that it mixes elements of just about every Mario game ever, from the obvious 3D Land gameplay to the Super Mario Bros 3 music when you lose a life and all the little references in between, but wraps it up in a near perfect package of awesome. I completed the game on my own save file but I have a second save file for when my kids want to play (which is pretty much all the time) that I'll continue to play as long as they want me to.

Game 9: LUIGI'S MANSION: DARK MOON (3DS) (14 hours)
Like with the Pikmin, the original Luigi's Mansion is a favourite of mine from the GC era that I've been waiting for a sequel to for so many years. I'm a fan of what Next Level have done with Strikers and Punch-Out!! so it's no surprise that they knocked it out of the park here. Luigi's animations are so good. I like the mission based structure because I mostly play 3DS on my commute so it worked well.

Game 10: SONIC GENERATIONS (3DS) (8 hours)
My second Sonic game for the year. I actually have a soft spot for Dimps Sonic games and this one is pretty decent but it's very short... even more so when you compare it to the console version of Generations. Also shaking my head at whoever thought it was a good idea to tuck missions away behind streetpass and play coins. I easily get 10 streetpasses a day, not one person seems to have this game. Most of my playtime was spent getting S rankings. The special stages were pretty cool.

Game 11: SUPER CASTLEVANIA IV (WII U VC) (3 hours)
I'm kind of cheating with this one because it's one of my all time favourite SNES games but I "upgraded" my Wii VC version to the Wii U VC version recently and felt like it was a good time to play it again. It's great on the Wii U pad but I seem to be worse at the game now than I was back in the 90s.

Game 12: WARIO LAND 3 (3DS VC) (10 hours)
I never owned a GBC so I missed this one first time around, glad to see it get another chance on my 3DS because it's pretty great. I liked the mini Metroidvania style levels, I wonder why there aren't more platform games like this? Oddly enough for a game where you can't die it gets as frustrating as hell sometimes, mostly when you get hit by a boss and have to do it all again.

Game 13: WONDERFUL 101 (WII U) (28.5 hours)
My second Platinum game of the year. An absolute blast from start to finish. Let's be honest here, there's no chance this game would be successful even if it wasn't on the Wii U... I'm just glad Nintendo gave them the chance to make it. In typical Kamiya fashion every time I thought the game was over there'd be another boss fight...

Game 14: 3D SHINOBI III: RETURN OF THE NINJA MASTER (3DS) (4 hours)
Brilliant version of a brilliant game. The 'expert' mode that lets you assign dedicated buttons to blocking and your two different attacks makes the world of difference, I couldn't imagine playing the regular Genesis version now. I'll probably play this again because it's one of the best Genesis games.

Game 15: PUPPETEER (PS3) (8 hours)
Great game, I enjoyed this way more than I thought I would. The constant narration is like Bastion or something, the platforming was decent enough but it's the animation and the whole puppet show thing that makes this worth playing through. Shame nobody bought it but like with Wonderful 101 I'm glad there was a company like Sony willing to pay for it in the first place.

Game 16: MAXIMO VS THE ARMY OF ZIN (PS2) (8 hours)
One from the old PS2 backlog. I beat the original game years ago and just never got around to this one. I think I prefer the original because it's got more of a G'n'G vibe but this is probably the better game. The action is very primitive compared to the action games that have been released since this was released but it was still fun. Shame Maximo 3 never got made.

Game 17: CAVE STORY (3DS) (10 hours)
The eStore version, not the remake. I actually kind of had to play it twice because I somehow ended up saving my game after making the choice that leads to the bad ending and couldn't get out of it without restarting. It's a great little game though so it didn't really bother me at all.

Game 18: GEARS OF WAR 3 (360) (11 hours)
Just to add a little dudebro flavour to my completed games list I decided to get around to playing through the Gears of War 3 campaign. I don't know why but this felt much shorter than the other Gears games but that doesn't make any sense because it took me 4 evenings of reasonably long sessions to get through it. The ending kind of feels like the perfect place to stop (story wise) but apparently MS feel differently.

Game 1: Gone Home
Completed January 1

Game 2: Persona 4 Golden - 12 Hours
I'm addicted to a JRPG.. wtf can't wait to see this one to the end
Played 7 Hours the past two days

Game 3: Tearaway
Played a fair amount in '13 but gonna take the time to beat it this month

Sub_Level

wants to fuck an Asian grill.
8 months where you play 4 games and 4 months where you play 5 games. Going to use those those dry Summer months of May, June, July, and August to go into overdrive.

Let's do this

Game 1: Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance (PC) - 4 hours and 50 minutes
January 10th - Beat it on Normal. Wanted to do VR missions and DLC but there's other stuff I gotta get to. Fantastic game, perfect length, and really enough has already been said on this title by others. I always used to roll my eyes whenever people mention "male power fantasy" but I know it's real now. This game made me feel it. And it was fucking awesome. Story-wise I didn't care for it, but being at the end of the series chronologically, it's not particularly offensive to the rest of the series in any way and I can appreciate Platinum taking it and making it their own thing. Look forward to the sequel; bring it on. 4/5.

Game 2: Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition (PS4) - ~11 hours
January 31st - Beat it on Hard. 100%. It was ok.

#Blasted through the game in one sitting with a friend. :D

Game 1: Guacamelee (PS3) - 10 hours
I would have beat it probably 3 hours sooner if I didn't go for the orbs, but I'm glad I did since they made the final level much easier. Great game.

Game 2: Brothers: A Tale of Two Brothers (PC) - 3 hours
Absolutely worth playing. I beat it in one sitting which speaks to how enjoyable it was. The controls work really well and its something worth experiencing.

Ok....

Game 1: Bravely Default For the Sequel - Before Christmas 2013 - ??
Although started this early, I'm not actually playing it at the moment since it's used as backup Nemesis storage. Gonna do 'no encounter' playthrough and get that hall of fame achievement on SQEX member website.

Game 2: Ys: Memories of Celceta - 28/12/13 - ??
Only finished the 1st dungeon.. Normal playthrough

I really want to be a part of this since I have such a huge backlog. I'm going to start with X-Com Enemy Within.

Game 1: NAME - DURATION PLAYED
# INSERT INFO AND COMMENTS HERE

Probably won't make it, but will have fun trying ^_^

EDIT: So I did some digging.
in 2010 I beat 44 games
2011 I beat 27
2012 I beat 29
and this past year of 2013 I got through 31

Gonna have to up my average a lot, lol. Maybe cheat and play lots of short games, hehe.

-----

Game 1: Batman Arkham Origins- about 12 hours
Not nearly as fresh as the 1st two Arkham games, but it did have a much more focused and enjoyable story. Probably my favourite version of the Joker so far. Bugs and glitches were annoying.

Daaaamn 52 games? I can't even imagine doing that. I probably beat less than 5 games this year. The last game I finished was TLOU.

The sad thing about it is that I probably bought close to 30 games this year too. I can't resist buying random bargain bin games under $15 lol. Steam sales don't help either.

I'm in. I have an insane backlog on PS3/Vita/3DS/PC in addition to all the cool stuff coming on PS4. I doubt I'll make it, but let's go. I'm likely starting with AC IV on PS4 tomorrow.

Game 1: Killzone 2 - around 10 hours (completed 1/6/14)
I picked up the Killzone Trilogy so I could play through the series before starting Shadow Fall. I definitely enjoyed the feel of this one compared to the original (mostly due the original really showing it's age in terms of game mechanics). Even 4-5 years later, the game still looks great, so I can only imagine how great it looked at release. It was also a nice challenge compared to your typical shooter. You definitely can't just run and gun your way thru the game. Overall fun experience and I look forward to playing Killzone 3 soon.

Currently working on:
Pokemon Y
InFamous (getting ready for Second Son)
Assassin's Creed IV

Sounds like a good excuse to play through many of my games. I'm in!

Is this an allowed situation: I have some play time on Pokemon White 2, however I have yet to complete challenge [insert goal]. Is this game allowed to be included in list?

Game 1: Mark of the Ninja - 21 hours (according to Steam, before 2014)
# I have some play time on the game, however my goal is to complete the DLC and strive to unlock the achievements.

I'm down, only beat ~31 games or so this year 52 seems like a good challenge.

Game 1: Plants vs Zombies ~5 hours (Finished)
I enjoy Tower Defense games so I finally got around to playing and finishing the story mode.

Game 2: One Piece Pirate Warriors 2 ~13 hours (Finished but going for platinum)
I have been in the mood for a musou game for quite some time, combined with One Piece and it seems like a no brainer for me, I played through and got the real ending in the story mode. Great game I still need to try more characters.

Game 3: The Last of Us ~17 hours (Finished)
I played 90% of this game as a stealth game, big improvement over the bullet sponge waves of Uncharted. It was a great expirence overall, I plan to replay it in the future

Game 4: Picross e 3 32H54m (FInished)
This is where the majority of my time went in Janurary, Picross is the perfect handheld game. Bring on e 4.

Game 5 Attack of the Friday Monsters! A Tokyo Tale 3 hours 5 Mins Completed
This is a very charming adventure/card battler game.

Game 6 Witch & Hero 3 hours 56 Mins Completed
I'm not sure if this is a port of a mobile game but it plays like one. Pretty basic bump and grind mechanics, survive the wave+ boss. Great game to play in bursts but can be grindy.

Game 7 Uncharted 3 11 Hours 10 Mins Completed
The latest game in a fight the wave of bullet sponges series. More of the same but it was enjoyable. They really liked recycling the train setpiece from the second game a bit too much.

Game 8 D&D: Chronicles of Mystara ~ 3 hours Completed
I always wanted this collection since the Saturn release, ending up double dipping on it just because. Pretty fun beat em up finished both games with my six year old nephew.

I'm down but I don't see it happening, I can barely do one game a month let alone 4-5. If I can carry over games I've already started then maybe there's a chance I can make a reasonable attempt.

Maybe this will finally help with my backlog. Will start tomorrow.

Edit: And here we go

Game 1: Hammerwatch - 8 hours - JAN 2
This game started off really fun but when my co-op partner lost all his progress on the last act and I had to solo everything until we found shops two floors later, it began to lose its luster.

Game 2: The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds - 17.5 hours - JAN 7
Not the hardest game ever but it was pure joy from start to finish. I did everything in the game except the home run derby.

Game 3: Super Mario 3D World - 14 hours - JAN 12
Beat the game, not 100% collectibles, and I will come back to it later but calling it good for now.

Game 4: Dungeons & Dragons: Chronicles of Mystara - 3 hours - JAN 17
First time playing the game and it was a lot of fun. Having played Dragon's Crown first it was interesting to see how much influence the took from Chronicles of Mystara.

Game 5: Might and Magic X Legacy - 38 hours - JAN 28
Loved this game, it has some warts for sure but the experience and gameplay more than make up for it. 38 hours well spent.

Game 6: Bravely Default - 63 hours - FEB 23
Another awesome game with the exception of the last few chapters. In hindsight, I wish I would have skipped a lot of the sidequests in the latter chapters.

Game 7: Castle of Illusion - 2 hours - MAR 2
A fun (and short) platformer with great controls. This game was a nice relaxing experience to knock out in one sitting.

Game 8: South Park: The Stick of Truth - 15 hours - MAR 8
An incredibly awesome game. Jam-packed full of show references with almost no filler to speak of. The only minor gripe I have is items being missable in areas you can't go back to. Getting 102/103 pieces of equipment is a bummer.

Game 9: Ittle Dew - 2 hours - MAR 8
I have often heard this game referred to as Zelda inspired but it is basically a puzzle game with very little else. I am glad it was short at least.

Game 10: Angvik - 1 hour - MAR 8
A rather disappointing platformer with permadeath. I don't see myself going back after finishing the game tonight since the levels are always the same which kills replaybility.

Game 11: Dark Souls 2 (PS3) - 50 hours - MAR 21
Couldn't wait for this on PC so I rented this on PS3. Had a great time with it and really looking forward to the PC release!

Game 12: Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze - 7 hours - MAR 23
I couldn't really get into this game but it was really well made. Took me a couple weeks to finish the game which is fairly rare for such a short title.

Game 13: Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls - 100+ hours - Ongoing
Beat the game the day it came out but have been doing the usual farming every day. This will pretty much be my go to time waster game so it won't ever be beaten but for the purpose of this list it is done.

Game 14: Dark Souls 2 (PC) - 41 hours - APR 30
Second playthrough, did everything I could on a single run. Such a better experience on PC.

Game 15: Shadowrun Returns: Dragonfall - 15 hours - MAY 1
Finally finished up the expansion. I liked the game a lot but the last two missions were too long for my liking and killed my fun towards the end.

Game 16: Dark Souls 2 (PC) 100% completion - 30 hours - MAY 6
Putting this on here again since it took another 1.5 playthroughs to finish the achievements so I think that fits the spirit of the thread.

Game 17: Child of Light - 14 hours - MAY 10
I had a good time with this game for what it was. Like Blood Dragon, it has a lot of room for improvement and I hope Ubisoft takes another shot at it. Would like to see something at more of a mid-tier range (~$25 or $30) instead, I miss the mid-tier games that used to be common.

Game 18: Transistor - 6 hours - MAY 26
Great game, would have liked to see it last a little longer but it will be fun to revisit later on Recursion mode.

Game 19: Shadow Warrior (2013) - 12 hours - JUN 7
Really solid old-school style shooter. Got a little tired of bullet sponges at the end but overall a solid experience.

Game 20: Viscera Cleanup Detail: Shadow Warrior - 2 hours - JUN 7
Rather funny "boring" game, good to play while listening to podcasts.

Game 21: Fez - 10 hours - JUN 8
Had a lot of fun with this one. I had to look up a couple things in the end which kind of bummed me out but oh well.

Game 22: Battlepaths - 4 hours - JUN 14
Started off fun, got super repetitive but oh well.

Game 23: Splinter Cell Blacklist - 12 hours - JUN 15
Solid game all-around but nothing to memorable. I enjoyed my time with it but won't be going back for the side missions.

Game 24: Transformers: Fall of Cybertron - 8 hours - JUN 18
As a Transformers fan I loved this game. I hope the next game is even better but since High Moon isn't doing it I am cautiously optimistic.

Game 25: Dishonored - The Knife of Dunwall - 5 hours - JUN 19
Extremely well done DLC, looking forward to diving into the second part.

Game 26: Dishonored - The Brigmore Witches - 5 hours - JUN 20
These two DLCs were very awesome, I wish more games could do excellent DLC like these.

Game 27: Bioshock Infinite - Burial At Sea Episode 1 - 3 hours - JUN 21
So far this seems like fanservice to go back to Rapture with little point to the DLC otherwise. Will be interested to see how episode 2 goes.

Game 28: Bioshock Infinite - Burial At Sea Episode 2 - 5 hours - JUN 22
Can't really decide if I liked this or not. Definitely didn't like the ending and I think the game was probably better off without this DLC adding to the story.

Game 29: BattleBlock Theater - 9 hours - JUN 23
I really liked this game until the last two chapters when the game became incredibly tedious.

Game 30: Mario Kart 8 - 12 hours - JUN 24
Had a great time with this one but calling it good for now. Might do some MP later but I need to focus on catching up on other games first.

Game 31: Divinity: Original Sin - 70 hours - JUL 12
A fantastic old school RPG with modern sensibilities. The co-op was an added bonus on top of an already awesome game.

Game 32: Magicians & Looters - 7 hours - JUL 13
Minimal metroidvania, fun enough but nothing memorable about it.

Game 33: New Super Mario Bros U - 12 hours - JUL 19
Pretty much exactly what you would expect from a 2D Mario games, enjoyed it.

Game 34: Shovel Knight - 5 hours - JUL 20
Not a huge fan.

Game 35: Stick It To The Man! - 4.5 hours - JUL 20
Nice relaxing adventure game after Shovel Knight.

Game 36: Sine Mora - 2.5 hours - JUL 20
Shoot 'em up with a crazy storyline, about the right length for what I can take in bullethell games.

Game 37: Shattered Planet - 17 hours - JUL 25
Simplistic yet fun roguelike that I spent a lot of time on while doing other things.

Game 38: Our Darker Purpose - 7 hours - AUG 2
A BoI-like that I kickstarted awhile ago. Never reached the highs I hoped for and I was glad to put it away.

Game 39: Dark Souls 2: Crown of the Sunken King DLC - 8 hours - AUG 2
More Dark Souls is always good, can't wait for the next DLC in a few weeks.

Game 40: Unepic - 16 hours - AUG 9
An interesting metroidvania/rpg, despite some annoyances this was overall an enjoyable game with decent length.

Game 41: The Swapper - 5 hours - AUG 10
Fun puzzle game that looked amazing and was fun, even for someone who likes very few puzzle games.

Game 42: Zeno Clash - 4 hours - AUG 14
Hated the combat in this, Dark Messiah was way better. Hopefully the second game is better.

Game 43: Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII - 41 hours - AUG 23
Man, what an awful story but the combat was good. Typical of the trilogy I suppose.

Game 44: Dark Souls 2: Crown of the Iron King DLC - 7 hours - AUG 28
Another awesome installment of DLC. Can't wait for the last DLC next month.

Game 45: Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls Season 1 - 122 hours - SEP 15
Leveled up a new Crusader and made it to grift 35+ before calling it quits for the season. Hope to see improvements for next season and class tweaks so the balance is better.

Game 46: The Expendabros - 1.5 hours - SEP 19
Reskinned Broforce based on the Expendables was about as "good" as I expected.

Game 47: Spelunky (100% completion) - 81 hours - SEP 20
Finally got the last achievement after playing this game since release. I feel pretty good about getting 19/20 achievements and still needing another 400 runs to get the play 1000 times one.

Game 48: The Typing of the Dead: Overkill - 4 hours - SEP 20
Had a great time with this game, loved the b-movie grindhouse style and it was a brilliant way to do an on-rails shooter.

Game 49: Lili: Child of Geos - 5 hours - SEP 20
Laidback collect-a-thon with a bad camera. Had fun with it while watching some streams.

Game 50: Last Knight: Rogue Rider Edition - 2 hours - SEP 21
Not sure which is worse, this game or the fact that I played through the entire thing.

Game 51: Proteus - 1 hour - SEP 21
What the fuck...

Game 52: Chasm (Alpha) - 5 hours - SEP 21
I think this might be the first early access game I played through all the content on. It was just too good to stop until I ran out of things to do. Really looking forward to final release as the game is in great shape.

Game 53: PAC-MAN Championship Edition DX+ - 4 hours - SEP 26
Took advantage of the Steam free week to play through this again. I had forgotten how hilariously easy getting all the achievements is.

Game 54: Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor - 29 hours - OCT 3
Finished this one up and got all the achievements. Really enjoyed the Nemesis system and can't wait to see what they do for DLC.

Game 55: Legend of Grimrock 2 - 25 hours - OCT 19
Loved this game. It was a massive improvement over the first game and definitely one of the best examples of modern dungeon crawlers.

Game 56: Dragon Age 2 - 27 hours - OCT 23
Played this again to get prepped for DA:I. I have softened my dislike for the game over the years but holy shit did it come back after going to the exact same cave for the 8th time and dealing with waves of enemies.

Game 57: Civilization: Beyond Earth - 8 hours - OCT 26
This is obviously an ongoing game but I finished my first game. Went with the Purity victory which seemed like it made the most sense compared to the opening cinematic. Doubt I will be going for it again though as it was super tedious at the end with settling the earthlings.

Game 58: Lords of the Fallen - 20 hours - OCT 31
This was a good game but the crashes and loss of progress constantly were infuriating. NG+ is pretty terribly balanced too. I hope they get the crashes fixed and balance tweaked so I can revisit this game again.

Game 59: Halo: Spartan Assault - 4 hours - NOV 1
A forgettable twin stick shooter besides it being set in the Halo universe. All this game did is make me wish MCC was actually coming to PC.

Game 60: Ku: Shroud of Morrigan - 3 hours - NOV 1
Mechanically this game is pretty rough but the aesthetic and mythos made it well worth the time invested.

Game 61: Dragon Age: Inquisition - 101 hours - DEC 7
I had really high hopes for this game but the technical and control issues really annoyed me. 3 weeks in and they still haven't patched the game to fix things. All that being said, I think if they learn from the missteps on this and more densely populate the next game, the sequel could really be something special.

Game 62: The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth - 91 hours - DEC 7
I have a few more achievements to get Platinum God done but I will be playing this game continuously so updating it on the list now.

Game 1: The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition (PC) - 3 hours, 45 minutes - Beat 1/7/14
After finishing it, I've decided I'm terribad at these types of games. I blame a childhood of only platformers.

Game 2: Call of Duty: Ghosts (PS4) - About 2.5 hours in to campaign/6 or so hours of Safeguard/Other MP with roommate - Called it quits
I think I've seen enough of this one.

Game 3: Fire Emblem: Awakening - Finished
Yeah, I can't say enough about how amazing this game is.

Game 4: Metroid: Zero Mission - 3 hours, 19 minutes - Beat 1/17/14
The last area in this game was a royal pain in my ass.

Game 5: Persona 4 Golden - 62 hrs, 46 mins - Beat 1/31/14
I don't think I need to say much about this that hasn't already been said. The epilogue was pretty great.

Game 6: Spelunky (PS3/Vita) - 8 or so hours - Beat 1/22/14
Daily challenges and usually a couple solo runs, and some co-op runs. Counting as beaten as my roommate and I beat Olmec.

Game 7: Tearaway - About 7.5 hours - Beat 1/28/14
Great visual style, but the gameplay was frustrating more often than not.

Game 8: Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons (PSN) - Finished
My brain.

Game 9: Sonic 3 & Knuckles (GEN) - 1 hour, 45 mins - Beat 2/2/14
I fucking love this game.

Game 10: Rayman Legends (Vita) - 10 hours or so - Beat 2/4/14
This game is way more frustrating than it needs to be at times.

Game 11: Uncharted: Golden Abyss (Vita) - 11 hours give or take - Beat 2/7/14
Well, it was kind of an Uncharted game. Having to redo the final "boss" from the beginning because I looked up for a second when I thought it transitioned back to a cutscene was... fun.

Game 12: Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes - 107 minutes - Beat 3/18/14
Good showing for what Phantom Pain might be like.

Game 13: InFAMOUS: Second Son - About 14 hours - Beat 3/24/14
Great game. Terrible boss fights. But otherwise great game.

Game 14: Diablo III - About 20 hours - Beat 4/8/14
Just vanilla Diablo III. Picked up the expansion but haven't gotten too far into it.

Edit: Lost track of this for a few months, so I don't have clear times or dates for the following, but I did finish them instead of interacting with people.

Game 15: Watch Dogs
This game was fine. Not bad, but not great.

Game 16: Wolfenstein: The New Order
Really good single player FPS. Felt a little unforgiving at times, but overall fun.

Game 17: Diablo III: Ultimate Evil Edition(PS4) - Also platinum trophy
Jesus, I loved this game on consoles in a way I just never could on PC. So many hours put in to this over the last few weeks.

Game 18: Rogue Legacy (PS4/Vita) - 4 times
Yeah, I loved this game on PC, and it was the perfect Vita game for a while there for me.

Game 19: Risk of Rain
I've run through this one a couple times. All characters unlocked, and a couple artifacts. Pretty great.

Game 20: Super Mario 3D Land
Good, but problems with depth perception caused way more deaths than I would have liked.

Game 21: Last of Us Remastered
Great version of a great game. Played through the story again, and the DLC for the first time.

Game 22: PT (Not sure if this counts, but I definitely put my time in before they figured out how to consistently finish it)
Spooky scary stuff.

Game 23: Transistor
Really dug the story and gameplay in this one.

Going ahead and reserving this post for me, let's do this!

Game 1: DuckTales Remastered (Steam) - 3 hours - Beaten 1/1/14
# BEATEN! What a fun game, last level is hard without a controller though lol.

Game 2: WWE 2K14 (360) - 6 hours - Beaten 1/2/14
# Played through over half of this today, what a ton of fun it was, end video package gave me chills.

Game 3: Pokemon X (3DS) - 5 hour in
#

Game 4: Lego Marvel (PS4) - 3 hours in
#

Game 5: Sonic and All Stars Racing Transformed (Vita) - 2 hours in
#

Beaten games in bold.

A quarter of the way complete half way through the year. Finished four games in the last week though! If I can keep up the pace I can still do this!

I'm going to try and add a screenshot from my playthrough of each game if that function is easily supported:

Game 1: Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Dual Destinies (3DS) - Complete including DLC! 37 hours 8 minutes
# Played the first two cases in 2013. Game complete and overall it was great. Case 2 was meh and there was a bit too much hand holding but love the new characters. Case 5 had some great twists. DLC case was excellent.

pRpQB9Y.jpg

Game 2: Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition (PS4) - Single player game 100% complete!
# I really enjoyed this! Great level design and controls and really good looking. Also epic moment at the end when Lara
dual wields the pistols
.

Game 3: Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons (PS3) - Complete!
# I was not prepared for this game to be so dark and depressing.

Game 4: Killzone: Shadowfall (PS4) - Complete!
# One word describes this game - "inconsistent". A few levels are amazing but most are mediocre at best. Still enjoyed it overall.

Game 5: The Room 2 (iPad) - Complete!
# I thought this game was great. Lots of good puzzles. Just wish it had more of a story.

Game 6: Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes (PS4) - 83% complete
# Wow, this game is just so addictive. Really love the sandbox gameplay. Fantastic stuff!

Game 7: inFAMOUS: Second Son (iPad) - Complete on Good
# Really beautiful game, love me some inFAMOUS!

Game 8: Monument Valley (iPad) - Complete!
# Wow, this game! So beautiful! Woke up on a rainy day and purchased it and then proceeded to beat it before getting out of bed. Truly phenomenal stuff, likely my iPad GOTY.

Game 9: The Stanley Parable (PC) - Complete, I think
# What a funny, great game.Very insightful.

Game 10: The Blackwell Legacy (PC) - Complete!
# Pretty cool game but a little on the short side and too much trial and error.

Game 11: Half Life 2 (PC) - Complete!
# First play through. Fantastic game!

Game 12: Wolfenstein: The New Order (PC) - Complete!
# This game was way better than it had any business being. My GOTY so far!

Game 13: Blackwell Unbound (PC) - Complete!
# I liked the way this game evolved over the first, being able to switch to Joey was cool.

Game 14: Gone Home (PC) - Complete!
# Wow, this game was amazing! The atmosphere is incredible!

Game 15: Dear Esther (PC) - Complete!
# This game was okay. I think I would have liked it a lot more had I not played it right after Gone Home which in comparison I liked much more. Don't drink and drive!

Game 16: The Blackwell Convergence (PC) - Complete!
# Wow, the best Blackwell game I have played yet. A lot less trial and error and a really good story. Also, Rosa is a lot hotter too.

Game 17: The Blackwell Deception (PC) - Complete!
# Not as good as Convergence. More trial and error and the art was not nearly as good.

Game 18: The Blackwell Epiphany (PC) - Complete!
# Easily the best game in the series. So good!

Game 19: Tomb Raider: Legend (PC) - Complete!
# Despite a terrible camera and some real jankiness in places this game was totally enjoyable. I absolutely loved it and the ending really got me excited to play Anniversary! Also, I just noticed that 6 of the last 7 games I have played and 9 of 19 games I have played this year all featured female lead characters.

I'm going to give this a shot too!

Game 1: Binary Domain (PC) - 13.1 hours
I don't typically play shooters of any kind, but I had a blast mowing down all the robots. The characters and setting kept me interested too. I think this is the first shooter I've played since the original Gears of War.

Im in. Im going to beat 52 in the first month though.

And here we go:

1 - Bang Bead - Neo Geo - 30 minutes
Notes - Makes me wish i had Windjammers instead.
2 - Super Mario Bros - NES - 15 minutes
Notes - Played with warps. Been awhile since I've played through the final castle. Had to remember the way to go.
3 - Metal Slug 3 - Neo Geo - 45 minutes
Notes - Me and my girlfriend beat it. Going to work through the others over the next few days.
4 - King of the Monsters - Neo Geo - 1 hour
Notes - Game is fucking hard. Thankfully im not putting a quarter in evertime the timer runs out.
5 - Spinmaster - Neo Geo - 20 minutes
Notes - Game is super short. Also quite shitty.

I'll give it a shot & try to clear some of my backlog.

Game 1: Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus (PS3) - 100% Complete
I didn't keep track of the hours played but I started this game 01/01/2014 & completed it on 01/03/2014. Then I spent the next day getting all of the trophies. The game was fun but short, too short actually. I spent more time level grinding the weapons than working on the story campaign.

Game 2: The Walking Dead Season One (PS3) - 2 hours 15 minutes
Episode 1 complete.

I'm in. reserving spot to update later, I guess.

Games completed: 4/52

Game 1: Shin Megami Tensei NG+ - Started 1:55 AM 1/1/14
Finished game with Lawful ending late last year, now playing NG+ and Chaos.

Game 2: The Bureau: XCOM Declassified - Started 1/1/14 - Completed at 10 hours
The game is super clunky but it's also kind of cool. Interested in seeing how it will play out.
It's actually much better than I expected. The controls are clunky, but the tactical depth of the gameplay is quite deep and the plot is more interesting than I thought it would be. The way you can use abilities of squad members together rewards clever thinking. On harder difficulties the game is super difficult and requires you to employ a lot of tactics and management, just like a true RTwP game (and this game is a RTwP action RPG).
The twist at the end of this game is MIND BLOWING. The game is actually quite cool and totally worth playing.

Game 3: Typing of the Dead Overkill - Started 1/7/14 - Finished in 4 hours
I played with the Filth DLC, which made everything a lot more hilarious. Was a pretty fun game, but it was quite short. The filth DLC made it way more hilarious, I don't know if I would have enjoyed it as much without it.

Game 4: Alan Wake: American Nightmare - Finished in 2:30
This was pretty bad. It took the lackluster combat of Alan Wake and made an entire DLC out of it. None of the atmosphere and writing that made the original game compelling was here, and the pseudo-pulp B-movie feel was horribly executed and lame. The secondary characters also phoned in their performances, and the entire thing being a repetitive sequence of fetch quests just made it miserable overall.

Game 5:Call of Juarez: Gunslinger - Finished in ~4 hours
Ugh. While the gimmick of the game was cool, it got old fast and the gunplay quickly became annoying. Definitely had to force myself to finish it.
