Rare hinting at upcoming games in Kinect Sports Rivals Cameo? Battletoads?

B1vZjOr.jpg

We all know that Gamestop had preorder DLC for Kinect Sports Rivals that has characters wearing the logo of Battletoads, but did you know that at least one is in the game? You can see in the awfully shopped picture above pictures of various cards that appear behind the action in a cut scene of the story mode (yeah this game has a story mode...I'm not sure why).

Cameos include...Kameo, Zitz (Battletoads), Jago (Killer Instict), Banjo, and Leafos (Viva Piñata).

The main thing of note is Zitz in general, as he is the only character here that hasn't had a game in 3D and the rendering (drawing?) of him looks to be new?

So what do you think? New Battletoads? Battletoads unlockable in game?

Also, if you want to see this a bit clearer here is a video of me reacting to spotting the Battletoad. Watch closely in the background at the billboard during the cut scene. I didn't see the other characters till after the scene and rewatching. (If this is a big no-no, i'll gladly remove the link)

Chain up and force to make Avatars if old.

Probably just a nod to fans or something, but I almost wish they wouldn't do it. Just give us the games, and stop teasing us about them.

Yeah. Rare's glory days are long gone, and I'd rather they not make more childhood-shattering games like Nuts & Bolts or PDZ.

N&B is quite fun and, while a branch out from the norm, it felt like a Banjo game to me. I loved PDZ at the time but I find it nigh unplayable now. I would like them to try and make another of each though.

expecting this game to bomb

hopefully rare can go back to making real games now. even though all the talent is gone, I'd still like to see another Banjo.

So Battle Toads will save this game? ... I wouldn't guess that this games core demographic would even know what a battle toad is.

It's just putting it's IPs in the game. I doubt this really mean anything, but it's impressive that someone took the time to find these.

I would love to see MS throw the Battletoads ip at a competent studio that isn't Rare. It worked for KI. Hell, I'd like to see a Battletoads character in KI season 2. Do them both. Thank you.

I quite like it, so I'm not too fussed if they continue to make Kinect stuff.

I feel that handing their IP off to other teams that specialise in the various genres is preferable to having Rare created the sequels directly. Nobody will ever be able to convince me that having Rare make the new Killer Instinct would have turned out better than getting Double Helix to make it.

As you said, the talent is gone... so why have them make the games rather than somewhere else that has the required talent?

Rare are still a capable studio, they're not N64 Rare but they're certainly better than this Kinect bullshit. I wouldn't look too deep into the references to old games, Rare has a history of always doing that.

As for Banjo Nuts & Bolts, it's probably the best Xbox 360 exclusive alongside the original Crackdown in my eyes. I prefer to think of it as a nice spin-off despite Rare's attempt to tell us otherwise.

I know it doesn't hold up anymore but at the time PDZ's multiplayer was amazing. I played it all day everyday for months. That was their last great game in my eyes.

Nuts and Bolts was good too but it wasn't a real Banjo game.

PDZ multiplayer was great. Only game I picked up at the 360 launch and it lasted me for months and months. I even completed the single player and co-op both on Dark Agent... was very challenging which is fun in my world. I liked the game a lot.

Yea, my only real issues with PDZ was that it was ugly as hell, and that it really could have used some aiming assistance similar to the old Rare games. Attempting to aim at an enemy and watching them psychically weave around your crosshair was infuriating.

Oh, and the story was ridiculous.

MS need a lot of exclusives this gen.

Battletoads may not be in the cards (pun intended) yet but such threads should validate some F2Pish brawler down the line.

+1 for a X1 Battletoads

I played a lot of PDZ online too. It was pretty good fun playing with friends.

But I think Rare made some good games after that too Nuts and Bolts and the Rare Viva Piñata games were good.

Also I know a lot of people don't like Kinect Sports but they are solid games, they are not for me but I can see that technically a lot of work went into those games.

I hope they are hints towards more things. Not going to assume they all are, but I'm sure we're getting at least a couple old franchises in the next year or two.
