UK :

Nintendo overtakes Sony’s ‘Gran Turismo 5: Prologue’ at the top of the All Formats Chart as ‘Mario Kart Wii’ records the 8th biggest launch week ever in the UK. ‘Mario Kart Wii’ is far and away the biggest launch of any Nintendo published title. It’s also bigger than the launch weeks of all 5 other Mario Wii games combined (Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games, Super Mario Galaxy, Mario Strikers, Mario Party 8 and Super Paper Mario).
Mario has performed heroically on Nintendo’s next-gen format with Wii games featuring Mario accounting for 21.2% of all Wii units since the launch of the console in December 2006. There are now 4 Mario games in the All Formats Top 40 with Sega’s ‘Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games’ down one place to No3 (behind ‘Gran Turismo 5: Prologue), ‘New Super Mario Bros’ at No23 and ‘Mario Kart DS’ an All Formats Top 40 re-entry at No30. ‘Pro Evolution Soccer 2008’, another strong performer on Nintendo Wii, is a non-mover at No4, while Ubisoft’s ‘Rainbow Six: Vegas 2’ continues to lose ground, down 2 places to No5.
Sales of ‘Condemned 2’ from Sega fall by 20% in its second week, down from No5 to No6, while Activision still have an All Formats Top 10 presence thanks to ‘Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock’ only falling 2 places to No8 and ‘Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare’ climbing one place to No9. The new DS and PC versions of Ubisoft’s ‘Assassin’s Creed’ help it sneak back up the chart, up from No27 to No15, but otherwise there are no All Format Top 40 new entries this week to compete with the blockbuster ‘Mario Kart Wii’.

Wastes hours checking old Famitsu software data, but that's why we love him.
Wow:

‘Mario Kart Wii’ is far and away the biggest launch of any Nintendo published title. It’s also bigger than the launch weeks of all 5 other Mario Wii games combined (Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games, Super Mario Galaxy, Mario Strikers, Mario Party 8 and Super Paper Mario).

Also YAY at PES Wii

YAY for Mario Kart Wii! :D

It truly deserves it. Best use of whatever the Wii has got.

EDIT: And YAY for PES Wii of course! Good job Konami. :D

‘Pro Evolution Soccer 2008’, another strong performer on Nintendo Wii, is a non-mover at No4

:D I'm glad to see this title get good sales in the UK and Japan! I was worried that if it didn't sell well then they would have went back to the traditional controls for the next entry.

Hmm.. they built their own tech.. but then again UE3 licensing isn't cheap either. I can't imagine they're raking in a huge profit on a performance like that. It'll be gone in a couple of weeks, they'll have to slash the price if they want to sell.

Assassin's Creed PC is a huge flop.

Damn, thats a great preformace by Mario Kart Wii! :) I wonder how many weeks it will stay on #1.

Just one, if it's sold out and will take a while (4-6 weeks) to restock.

AC PC is not a huge flop. Do you realize how little effort is required to bring it to the PC as opposed to developing it outright?

Also, time and time again we've seen how PC games don't chart and yet manage to sell over a million copies (STALKER, The Witcher, Crysis, etc...).

I think we should see the same thing for MK. Well, maybe not in Spain and Italy tho.

edit : just got the Italy data for last week. I'll post them in the other thread.

Glad to see Mario Kart Wii selling well, i was in town yesterday and saw a clerk in Gametstaion let a little kid have a go on MK and he was enjoying himself with the steering wheel. The little kid was persuading his dad to buy the game for him now, brought a smile to my face :)

Nintendo and Sega sitting in a tree....

It's a shame Nintendo can't rectify their game production issues. It's like they make factories, where all games are made as carts, then converted to CDs, just to slow things down. Is there any reason, besides control, for them to have disk shortages? WTF, make a new factory. Now, that can't be hard. I can understand hardware shortages. But disk shortages? Still? If publishers want to buy more, they are stuck with them.

This brand is supposed to have weight. Yes I know 2 people can port a game in a weekend, and at the end of the day that's free money.

Nawwww.

AWESOME to see PES Wii maintain a very healthy position. Konami would have to be very happy so far with its performance in the UK, especially since its come out later than all the other versions.

Still? If publishers want to buy more, they are stuck with them.

yeah but in the case of mario cart its more than just disc production they need to make the wheel as well

right does anyone want to guess what mario kart actually sold? seeing as galaxy and olympics both sold about 70,000 first week that brings us to 140,000 (maybe more?) add on the other games i'd guess about 190,000

This brand is supposed to have weight. Yes I know 2 people can port a game in a weekend, and at the end of the day that's free money.

But as I said, we've seen it in the past where games like Crysis or The Witcher don't even chart (or barely) and manage to sell over 1 million copies. I wouldn't count AC PC out just yet.

I expected it to debut at No. 1 but this:

It’s also bigger than the launch weeks of all 5 other Mario Wii games combined (Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games, Super Mario Galaxy, Mario Strikers, Mario Party 8 and Super Paper Mario)

is truly mindblowing.

PES showing good signs of legs. I thought it would bomb in Europe as well - glad I was wrong on that account.

Vikings sees a rather steep decline, seems it doesn't really click with the masses.

I think we should see the same thing for MK. Well, maybe not in Spain and Italy tho.

edit : just got the Italy data for last week. I'll post them in the other thread.
Why not in Spain? Nintendo is the current gen market leader there as well. If this doesn't debut at No. 1 it's rather disappointing. I agree with the Italy part though :D .

Where is the second shipment nintendo??
Next week probably. That's what the guy told 2 people who called in and 3 people asking while I was picking up my pre-order last Friday. I don't think it'll be big enough to satisfy demand though - the first shipment was rather low judging from Amazon being sold out waaay before launch and the Gamestop guy saying that they barely got enough to fullfill all pre-orders.

How long will it last though? PES attack next week?
PES=UEFA? Depends on how the stock situation unfolds, if it's indeed a restock at the end of this week then it should get knocked down a good deal of places on the (individual) charts.

Assassin's Creed PC is a huge flop.
PC users giving the game the treatment it rightfully deserves. Apart from that the port probably costed next to nothing.

Mario Kart Wii has, without a doubt, had the biggest pre-launch TV marketing campaign I've ever witnessed here in the UK for a videogame.

Almost every advert break on the main channels it has been another one of the various Mario Kart Wii TV ads.

I wonder why the other console manufacturers/publishers aren't taking note and advertising in similar amounts. In comparison, I saw all of one Halo 3 advert last year, must've seen the Mario Kart Wii ad 40 frickin' times.

Well I don't really remember Wii Software doing well in Spain. Yeah, we'll see.

Wow:

‘Mario Kart Wii’ is far and away the biggest launch of any Nintendo published title. It’s also bigger than the launch weeks of all 5 other Mario Wii games combined (Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games, Super Mario Galaxy, Mario Strikers, Mario Party 8 and Super Paper Mario).
WTF indeed. I want to know the actual numbers now, because that sounds insane, considering all these 5 others games are good to massive sellers too.

Well, maybe not pre-launch but (unsurprisingly) i seen alot of PES Wii commercials, its really paying off though as the charts says. There's only so much Ian Wright and Michael Owen i can take! :)
