I'm not ashamed to admit that I'm a Christian, but you don't need to be in the pew every Sunday to know there's something wrong in this country when gays can serve openly in the military but our kids can't openly celebrate Christmas or pray in school.

As President, I'll end Obama's war on religion. And I'll fight against liberal attacks on our religious heritage.

Faith made America strong. It can make her strong again. I'm Rick Perry and I approve this message.

These guys are getting pretty fucking blunt these days.

It has been argued by many Sociologists (Weber for example) that religion did, to an extent make America strong (protestant work ethic etc).

However, Perry is insane.

I still don't get why people don't want gays in the army. Is it just pure "we hate gays" shit or do they think they can't fight as well as a straight man or that they'll catch aids on the battlefield or something? I really don't get that.

So he's going full retard.
He must've got it from those HPV vaccines.

In the American public arena, it's significantly harder to dehumanize someone with a medal of honor.

can somebody clarify this? Children can't celebrate Christmas because gays from military are out to get them?

Yes. But the justification they'll give is that gay people can't be trusted in combat situations because of all that hot man ass around them.

Oh god, let me find that post about lithe, sweaty young men in the showers and what not.

Edit: YESSSSS

Shouldn’t the overwhelmingly straight warriors who answer their county’s call be spared the indignity of showering with other men who achieve lascivious enjoyment from the sight of those lithe naked bodies, and who may be tempted to seek more than the view? They are, after all, guys.
The douche who wrote that was actually talking about lesbians serving in the military, BUT YOU'D NEVER KNOW.

Two political dog whistles that have nothing to do with each other put in the same sentence...

I guess Perry's just being efficient y'all. He should have slagged immigrants as well, that would have been the perfect Republican trifecta!

Since when can kids not celebrate xmas or pray in school?

Most non religious schools don't allow praying because it's supposed to be a separation of church and state. Nothing's stopping people who are upset by that to enroll their kid in some private religious school.

Can't he just change this with a prayer?

Is his faith weak?

I don't trust Rick Perry, he's godless.

The man is a weather vane. Whatever the political winds are, he goes along with them. He was a Democrat until democrats lost their power in Texas in the early 90s. He doesn't really have any political convictions of his own except to line the pockets of his friends with generous contracts from the Texas Department of Transportation or something.

Thankfully, Obama is there to fight Perry's war on common sense and truth.

I like how he claims to be a christian then has to lie to make his point.

this douche is still around?

No, but the American left wishes he was relevant. I think Perry's latest numbers were like sub 1%, but the American left and media will never let a good dumbass go to waste. See: Michelle Bachman, Sarah Palin, etc.

Not allowing prayer is actually the violation of separation of church and state. Personal prayer must always be permited, but, aye, school led prayer, no. Group prayers walk the line, like football players getting together before a game to pray.

In America you can't slag a soldier under any circumstances. If gays are given this honor then treating them as equals basically becomes institutionalized in their culture.

It is perfectly legal to pray privately. Organized group prayer isnt allowed, and obviously school led prayers are not allowed.

I like the cut of your jib.

I feel like this election cycle may help advance the argument for a national day of primary elections; the pandering to these early, super-conservative states is simply absurd.

Kind of. You have to worship soldiers when they're on duty but when they come home you can treat them like shit and withhold benefits, telling them to stop being lazy bums and get jobs like everyone else. At least that's what republicans do.

Well yeah that's what I meant. I remember a muslim student was allowed to go outside the class and pray but obviously wasn't allowed to do it in class since it would have been a distraction.

Oh yes.. I've heard that he's had his share of hot tub fun with guys at the mansion before.

http://zennie62blog.com/2010/10/27/is-texas-governor-rick-perry-gay/

As I began looking into this, I repeatedly heard detailed rumors of a past gay relationship between the Governor and his former Secretary of State, Geoff Connor. A version of this story included Perry’s wife, Anita, catching Connor and Perry in the act and screaming at him the next day from her office phone. The most common retelling has it that the Governor was caught, struck a quick (and expensive) deal with his wife that allowed him to avoid an immediate trip to divorce court, and swore everyone involved to secrecy.

I also learned of a new rumor making the rounds. Several sources told me they had heard that the Governor is in a current gay relationship with one of the two (male) chefs that Perry he keeps on staff at the tax-payer funded ($10,000 a month) temporary governor’s mansion.

What’s interesting, given the longevity and evolving nature of these rumors, is that as far as I can tell, no media outlet has ever publicly asked the Governor the simple question: “Are you gay?”

http://blog.sfgate.com/abraham/2011...sex-rumors-rise-after-ron-paul-supporters-ad/

While Governor Perry’s camp hoped it would not happen, questions and rumors that Texas Governor and GOP Presidential Nomination Candidate Rick Perry is either Gay and, or, slept with strippers and escorts, have resurfaced after Robert Morrow, a Republican, Ron Paul For President Supporter, and the self-proclaimed President of The “Committee Against Sexual Hypocrisy,” or “CASH” took out this ad in the Austin Chronicle which reads:

“Are you a stripper, an escort, or just a young “hottie” impressed by an arrogant, entitled governor of Texas? Contact CASH and we will help you publicize your direct dealings with a Christian-buzzwords spouting family values hypocrite and fraud.”

And the Gay rumor was first mentioned last year by blogger Mike Stark, of The Stark Report, but for some weird and unknown reason, Stark stopped blogging about.

Rumors all but so much smoke with no fire.

A. They think it's gross, don't understand it, therefore hate it.
B. Because of the bible bullshit.
or C. They're gay/bisexual themselves and are trying to hide it by fitting in with the crowd and attacking.

When did the no praying in school happen? People can pray as an individual, correct?

Edit: I got it now. I thought I missed the ban on individual prayer.

is it the case? US can't have it moderate? Extremes only? Who's fucking business it is if a kid wants to pray?

Perry currently has around 8% of the vote in Iowa polls, not sub 1%. He still has a lot of money and name recognition as well, so I don't know what you're complaining about

Yes but I'm pretty sure you have to set something up with the school before hand. You can't just run out of class and start praying otherwise everyone would. But they're not allowed to lead prayers or let people do it in the middle of the class.

The First Amendment reads "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof ...." - for some reason both christians and atheists have their own ridiculous interpretations of this phrase, neither of which are very close to the framers' original intent.

But how are we real Americans going to express our gratitude to Mr. Perry for saving Christmas and keeping those gays away?

Precisely. The Founders meant for there to be no National Religion, or office state endorsement of a particular church.

I think you can pray privately at your desk. If the muslim student had to go out to the hall to pray it may have been for safety reasons. Maybe there was no safe place in the class where he wouldn't be blocking an aisle.

There is nothing stopping students from praying in public schools nor is there anything keeping kids from celebrating christmas.

The entire LGBT community in Austin needs to like corner him and give him a hug. Maybe he will explode in a poof of fairy dust.
