New arcade BEMANI title announced - Otoiroha

5th Konami Arcade Championship let's gooooooooo

before people come in with #FuckKonami, Konami and Bemani have hosted the biggest otoge tournament and event for the past 5 years. They have been fostering their music game communities for a while now and continue to do so.

I can't tell how much of this is just due to how relatively inexpensive it is to make music games (especially when you start cutting production in things like keysounded inputs and per-track background production) and how much of it is just raw desperation looking for another hit. I don't really get the impression that anything they've put out after Sound Voltex has really gotten any traction (and even that game had to be salvaged), and that genre is more crowded than ever now, it seems.

And I think I'm legally obligated by NeoGAF bylaws to stick a #fuckonami in here somewhere.

I mean, you still have lines a couple of blocks long for pretty much any location test in Japan.

Too bad arcades aren't anywhere near as ubiquitous outside of Asia though.

Well Museca is garbage and no one plays it. If they just made something cheap looking for something popular then maybe a chunithm clone.

I remember a few years ago thinking Bemani was an endangered gaming species. Who woulda thunk that it'd be one of the last surviving Konami series...

Doesn't Chunithm use 2 screens and motion sensors? That's not exactly touchscreen-ish.
Think that was sarcasm. Although sarcasm aside, I could see Chunithm working on touchscreen if they changed the motion sensing mechanic to just a bar above where the keys are, hold your finger in the bar/move it back and forth to simulation the motion mechanic.

Side note, Chunithm is the best. Can't wait to get back over in a few months and dive back in.

I added the "ish" for the motion sensors and the control is basically a touch screen. There's no way it's going to be a single screen touch game like (the garbage that is) beatstream though.

I.. I hope.

Or use the ipad's camera somehow.
