Might have some requests later, but I would love to get an avatar of Guy's helmet and Thomas' helmet.

Tried to do it myself on pixlr, make fun of it if you have to. Idk if I did it right or not.
Here's two for you, if you want any changes let me know =]

Can I get an avatar of just olivia wilde's head, kind of like NBA-GAF's avatars but without the colour border. Pretty sure this is too hard to do, but thought i'd ask.

Would seem a shame to get rid of your American beauty avatar
One of the favourite films and I think one of the best films ever made
But here ya go =] The hair is very hard to do, I've done an ok job of it, since avatars are so small it doesn't matter too much. But there is also a short hair version and drop shadows of both.

How do you guys make it transparent so fast? Are you Path Tool gods? :O

I just used GIMP's Fuzzy Select Tool for that one. Fortunately, the foreground edges are all completely different colours to the background in that image, so it only took a few clicks (one main one, then adding a few couple-of-pixel gaps) to get the selection right.

Don't think I've ever used the path tool for cutting out, though it would definitely work. There's little need for the precision of the tool on avatars when they are so small. For larger work sure, path tool and a layer mask would be good. I use Photoshop and there's a few different ways I use to cut out a background depending on the original image and experience of what I think will work best, like:

Eraser: Good old trusty eraser, just go round the outside changing the size of it to cope with corners and small areas.

Lasso Tool: Usually I start off with the Magnetic Lasso (Detects edges between colour automatically) then tidy up the selection with the default lasso.

Magic Wand: Selecting all similar colour (Usually fastest on a single colour background)

Select Colour Tool: I use this for things with hair. Its like an advance Magic Wand. It's like using the magic wand tool with Contiguous ticked (Selects everything on layer with same colour as opposed to everything of same colour adjacent to where you click). But it has a preview of the selection shown and also you to adjust on the fly how much you select. Its particularly good at getting all the bites between different hairs.

Defringe or Remove Black/White matte: Usually a clean up tool to get rid of the small amount of pixels left around an image after a magic wand.

And any combination of the above =]

Was wondering if someone could cut the character giving thumbs up for an avatar with a transparent background.

If they could resize it for gaf limitations and 200x200 pixels I'd be really grateful

Can someone separate his face from the yellow stuff at the left of the image? Shouldn't be too difficult to get just the face for an avatar.
Umm, could someone make something that has the whole chair and another that zooms more on the subject?
*Resized as close as possible to meet Gaf limitations*

I can't decide between which would look better.

Thanks ahead of time!

Extra Note: Not end-all, but could someone color out that small crumb on her face?

I think I recall some Photoshop tool that allows you to color over parts of a picture with surrounding colors. If it's too much trouble (or if I'm just wrong), it's fine.

Another request, please. I tried to do this one myself in Photoshop, but after not getting the accurate cut around the image with the wand tool, I just gave up. I'm trying to make it transparent as well.

.png all the way. Some upload sites don't support transparent pngs (technically they don't support alpha values) I use imgur and it works fine. Also be sure when you are saving the png in whatever image editing programme you use, that alpha/transparency is ticked somewhere in the save dialogue. Also upload online via a 'browse file on computer' option, clicking and dragging transparent png's to and from browsers often means transparency disappears.

If you are sure you are doing everything right, and have tried uploading the image with imgur, and its not working, post the image and say what program and OS you are using and I, or someone else, will have a look and see if we can figure out what's going wrong =]

don´t worry, it worked now. a bit wonky still, but it worked.. don´t know what with the other picture was XD thanks..
Glad you got it working, my only difficulty was getting it to delete the background in paint.net without filling it black, finding the alpha bit was a pain xD

But yes works fine in paint.net

How do you smooth out the outline on a transparent image? As you can see by my avatar, I have successfully created a transparent background, but the outline of the character is rough and pretty ugly. How do you smooth the outline or touch up the image to make it look more professional? I'm using GIMP 2, by the way.

Going round it with a soft 'brush' on the eraser tool should do it. Soft being one that fades out at the edge rather than being a soild block that gets rid of whole pixels. I don't know If GIMP has this though I should think it would.

Hey, wondering if someone could make the background on this transparent. Wish I could do it myself, but I'm not sure GIMP has "prepare for web" or whatever.

Edit: Thanks so much, Thane! :)

ok
can someone help me out here?

I want to create an avatar from this image (or same characters)
i'd prefer the dragon on the left side of the image; and the character with sword (square and arrow) on the right side, but mirror-imaged to still point at the dragon.

it would be a real treat if the dragon was green, too.
like this guy

seems fairly simple, but i'm pretty shit at this ...
and it doesn't necessarily need to be those exact images, but the same characters/pixels
hope that all makes sense.

thanks in advance
