Edmund McMillen's The Basement Collection coming to Steam August 31, $4

Did he mention whether he's going to bring hardware acceleration to BoI?

Not happening, the flash version of Binding of Isaac will get presumably only one more bugfix then that is it. He's explained a lot of the problems with updating BoI on formspring, it sounds like a nightmare. The game comes out corrupted most of the time when they try to export it, due to how massive it is.

Could you elaborate more? Don't feel like googling :P

Yeah, it's on twitch.tv like Baloonatic said.

Super nice!

Edit: It really is great to see the collection go digital since he put most of his games on a cd for sale, years back but was sold out. I always wanted to get that cd but seeing this being release digitally, it is awesome. Thanks Ed.

He should port all his games. Flash is just unacceptable... it was a pain in the ass in Isaac and doesnt show his talent. Its like a AAA Team is making an Atari game with framerate drops etc.

He's not a programmer. Binding of Isaac is flash as2 because that's what the programmer of the game (Florian Himsl) knows.

In retrospect I'd imagine he wishes it wasn't in flash also. Especially since it is such a larger hit than expected. Which is why there's the possibility of an outside party doing a port/remake for consoles and pc.

SMB: The Game, Game #2 and presumably every Team Meat game afterwards will be made in Tommy's new engine.

Guess the cats out of the bag on the secret game he revealed on Twitch a while back:

Forget about what's in the cube, how about what's in the basement?

@EdmundMcMillenn
Just saw the keynote on Peter Molyneuxs new game hate to say it but the 1 of the secret games in the basement collection is almost identical

except our game is better, and also a joke... :)

pretty sure a lot of you know what it is now :) but yeah i couldn't resist!

you have my word that the life changing event you see at the end, will be at least 1.5 times more life changing than his life changing one

"Game" is AVGM, but remade with new stuff.

I'm going to buy this so hard, and for a friend that will love it to. Its so cheap though, but I guess its just a thank you to the community and fans for supporting SMB and BOI.

New update

By the time this post is finished Tyler will have completed the upload of the final version of the basement collection to the steam ftp.

As with almost anything i tend to work on, there were a few last minute additions to the collection.

As some might have assumed from my posts, i have recorded and completed 4 audio QAs using questions you submitted (read by Danielleorama). there is well over 60 minutes of this audio garbage, i hope you enjoy it!

speaking of bloated content, i have a frightening announcement for those of you with horrible internet connections (and good news for you horders), the basement collection capped out at 928mb! 60% of this is the 20 minutes of video, over an hour of audio interviews and the huge mega soundtrackÂ… but yeah its a big one for sure.

and last but not least, id like to announce that Aether will have not only one but 2 musical guests featured on it!

Thats right, the ever popular Laura Shigihara does a very whimsical take on the aether soundtrack, she even sings! (in a language she made up non the less!). its crazy how much both Laura and Dannys soundtracks change how the game feels when you play with themÂ… very cool stuff.

Ok well now i gotta start on this Binding of Isaac postmortem for game dev. and then hop in for a little Ludum Dare with Tommy tomorrowÂ… we shall see what happens!

AUG 31st FUCKERS! BE THERE!

Lengthy new interview at GameZebo:

I’m a fan of collections. I got the Mario History one, and I was so disappointed. [It comes with] the most half-assed book. You’d think after all these years they’d have so much more than this.

[With The Basement Collection], I think going overboard with the stuff that I did consciously go overboard on is because I’m a fan of stuff, and this is what I would want. That’s kind of how I go about everything. I just do it the way I would really want it, and I price it the way I feel is fair. I paid $5 for The Binding of Isaac, and that’s a much more new substantial experience than the collection, so the collection makes sense to me that it’s $4.

Spoilers on some of the unlockables:
The biggest [piece of locked bonus content], well if you don’t count AVGM, [is that] when you beat Aether it unlocks the box. And the box is... in the movie I talk about how I found a box of my art when I was little that my grandma saved. It’s that box scanned. So everything that was in the box, when I was 3, 4, 5 years old – that’s all in there.

The flipside to that, when you beat Time FCUK, it unlocks the chest, and the chest is all my sketchbooks for the past 8 years. I think if you beat Spewer it unlocks a virtual comic I did called Thicker Than Water, which is a 65 page comic about my childhood. When you beat Triachnid, it unlocks a kid’s story I did called The Lonely Hermit. And then there’s another one, but I don’t remember what it is...

Downloading it right now! (Won an early copy off of Edmund's blog)

Edit: First achievement!

Pretty loaded with stuff. Haven't delved into the Q&As and videos yet. This FamilyJules cover of Time Fuck in the bonus soundtrack is awesome. So is Laura Shigihara's Aether theme. And Danny B's "Blooba Doop Scoopa"...

Edit: Time to call it a night.

Got 4 achievements in Meat Boy, 2 in Spewer, 2 in Time Fcuk. Also listened to the Time Fcuk Q&A. (And now I want to play Mancunt 2...)

I enjoyed Castle Crashers, but I can't stand any game that looks like this anymore. Something about it just pisses me off. Maybe it's that it reminds me of Newgrounds.

Are these games all platformers? Something like BoI is manageable, but I don't think I can tolerate playing a game similar to SMB or Gish on a keyboard. I guess there's always JoyToKey, but still.

Word of the Chest and the Box unlockables just made me even more excited. It was cool seeing glimpses of his old art in Indie Game: The Movie and I want to see more. Just a few more days!

Talk about Binding Of Isaac coming to consoles? Who are the crazy guys taking the risk with this game, Sony or Microsoft?

Anyway I'm double-dipping the day it's out.

So bought.

BoI is one of my favorite games of the generation. And its getting a remake with new visuals/co-op and more content to boot!?!?!!

Amazing. Can't wait to buy this. SMB was fantastic, would love to see his other work.
