Indie Royale Back to School (Sequence, Sw. and Soldiers+DLC, Bunny Must Die! & more)

Bundle Page

The Indie Royale Back to School bundle is up, and it contains some interesting picks this time around. Bundle veteran Swords & Soldiers is the headliner this time around, and unlike the previous bundles (AFAIK), this one includes a separate Steam key for the "Super Spicy Sausage Fest" DLC. Lunar Flight is the next one; think "Lander" in 3D, with an open-world, randomly-generated missions, upgrades, and achievements. Many GAFers should recognize Sequence, an excellent rhythm/RPG hybrid game developed by GAF's own Feep (with some music tracks from djplaeskool). It's worth checking out if you didn't get it during the key giveaway or in past Steam sales.

Rockin' Android has three entries in this bundle. First up is Bunny Must Die! Chelsea and the 7 Devils, a cute/weird/odd Metroidvania game. Bunny must travel through the Devil's Labyrinth to remove the cat ears that she was cursed with after a Thermomewcular reactor accident. It's pretty good, and it's up on Steam Greenlight. Next up is Flying Red Barrel, a cutesy bullet hell shmup. Qlione is an odd "shooter"; it looks like Geometry Wars at first glance, but its focus is in destroying enemies with time bombs and barriers.

Finally, there's Cute Things Dying Violently, which sort of plays like Angry Birds/Bust-A-Move/Flingsmash (Flinging creatures onto other platforms, sometimes finding the right angle when shooting at a wall) with a pinch of Lemmings (Dumb creatures that casually walk forward until they hit a stop sign or a wall) and a dash of Super Meat Boy (Gibs). Despite the name, the objective for each level is to save the cute things by flinging them from the starting platform into switches, onto platforms, and finally into the elevator while avoiding the spikes and buzzsaws that populate each level. You're trying to get all of the cute things into the elevator, but as one of the early levels teaches you, sometimes a sacrifice must be made to finish the level. Like Bunny Must Die!, this one is also on Steam Greenlight.

I'm not too excited about this one because I already own the games I find interesting. I bought it anyway to support Sequence.

If for some reason you don't own Sequence or Swords and Soldiers both are great games that deserve your time. Those are the two I own and have opinions on

does being up on steam greenlight warrant any hope for getting steam keys should those games be approved?
It's tough to say, as it was pointed out in a previous thread that Indie Royale hasn't had to take that test yet (outside of Gemini Rue in the first bundle). I guess it's largely up to the developers whether or not to provide Steam keys after the fact. The developer of Towns, featured in the Alphafunding bundle, flat out promised in the Greenlight description to give Steam keys to current owners, though it's a question of how they'll go about it (FWIW, the bundle page is still being updated with new builds). I believe that one of the Rockin' Android folks is on GAF, and the Cute Things dev seems active in the Greenlight page's comments, so it might be worth asking them directly.

Generally, there aren't that many reasons to not give Steam keys to current owners, since devs can generate them for free.

Oh, absolutely. If or when I get Greenlit (fingers crossed) I'll be happy to send out Steam keys to anyone that has an Indie Royale bundle receipt or Indie Gala receipt.

gaf, you know your duty. game looks rad.

They all register on Desura so you will at least get automatic patch access.

Also the BMD music seems to have changed a bit from the original release (first two areas have different music, with remix turned off) and it now saves your equipped weapon (used to reset you to the daggers on death).

They had to change some of the original music, as some tracks were remixed from other games.

@DarkShinigami Murasame had to alter/remake a couple of the original music tracks due to them being remixes of songs that we clearly have no rights to, such as from Maze of Galious and Shadowrun NES. Other than that, it's unchanged.

i dunno, i wanna buy this but i hear Sequence was funded with nazi gold. can anyone on GAF confirm or deny this
Yeah, apparently it was actually programmed in a Chinese sweatshop by child workers using blood diamonds, too, I heard.

:p

We all got Sequence in that big GAF giveaway last year, didn't we?

Qlione isn't fun to play... After a while I figured out how to make the bombs hit stuff (usually, either the collision detection is seriously wonky or there's some logic that can prevent what looks like an explosion right on top of the enemy from actually hitting that enemy) but it's still not enjoyable.

To be honest with you, I never had much fun with Qlione, either. The sequel, which introduced evolution and much better attacks, is far, far better. The original just doesn't have that much to offer, although I know there are people who love it. As for collision, your actual bombs do no damage. It's the background that does damage. The bombs simply disturb the background.

I'm surprised you bothered translating it then instead of going straight to 2 or 3. The game doesn't seem to have any story beats that you have to know from the first.
