As you may already be aware, Nintendo's online capabilities have significantly improved over the Wii's lackluster online service. The Wii U uses unique Nintendo Network IDs that makes it easy to register others, and while the 3DS still houses the remnants of the unfortunate Wii Friend Code system, it's much less of a hassle because of the 3DS's superior online--it takes mere seconds to register people from around the globe.

Then tell me guys, why do I have to trudge through the Swap Note thread just to find my friends' FCs? Shouldn't we have NNID and 3DS FCs as valid fields on GAF by now?

In fact, why do we even need the Wii FC field anymore? There's more people playing Mario Kart 7 and Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon than there are playing Brawl's

Why not? if the NES had an online service after 25 years it will be still relevant.

Not many own a Wii U yet I suppose. Plus it's not like the Wii's online service shut down as soon as the Wii U came out.

It would still be extremely beneficial to add NNID and 3DSFC, especially the 3DSFC. It'd allow people to easily register one another for some extreme SwapNote messaging and late night rounds of online gaming.

Wii's Friend Codes were never worth the hassle. Just play online with randoms.

the Wii FC field is useless because each game uses a different FC.

NNIDs and 3DS FCs work with every game in their respective systems.

but it is nintendo and they're a joke so there it is.

I agree, it should be fixed but "significantly improved" isn't what I would call Nintendo's online situation. They don't even have the same system between their current console and hand held. Sony has it and I can log into an Xbox Live Arcade game on iOS and get achievements (there is just the one).

The official NeoGAF Wii U Nintendo Network IDs doco thing has 420 people listed.

The 3DS one has a lot more than that too. I think they both should get a little box thing!
