Media Create Sales 5/7 - 5/13, PS3 < 10k

Wow, just imagine if NSMB, BT2, AC:WW, and maybe even DQIX all make it above 5 million. The DS is truly doing amazing things in Japan.

Not only this but BT shows a special kind of legs which would lead it to 4 millions with only 10'000 weekly sales

So the date - a completely unique value, linked to any game or system you want easily by a quick wiki search - is not as good to judge which thread you need as a string of characters which can easily be duplicated?
I don't see how adding on additional characters to a unique value makes it not unique.

I'm not sure about other people, but just dates is difficult to make context.

Media Create Sales 5/7 - 5/13 P............D.WD.DWWWDD
Media Create Sales 4/30 - 5/06 D..W.W...DWDWD.DD
Media Create Sales 4/23 - 4/29 D....................DW..W..WWWDDD

Given those 3, it's much easier to tell which week had FFT released versus FFXII:RW given that you knew both came out somewhere around there.

Doesn't make it more unique though does it? It's just unnecessary complication, especially in weeks where one title outsells its nearest competitor by 200,000 copies..........................

Better was Cheese's original suggestion - top selling game in thread title. That way you get your contextualisation and we don't have confusing data strings in the thread title.

I think it would be fine just when the top selling is a new title, or else it could be confusing..

I think it's better to force people to just come in to see what sold what. I don't want anymore losers posting just because they saw the title. Hell, we get enough yahoos that don't know what the hell they are talking about posting about how Sony will come back. We don't need more. This whole page and a half discussion will only lead to inflammatory titles that will just shit up the whole conversation. Either just put the lead game in there or nothing.

The most recent suggestion will only lead to half-Anihawks and 2nd rate mono's walking in to 'Media-Create 9/10 - 9/16: DDDDDDDDW' thread just to say, 'Throw some D's on that bitch.' Yes, hilarious the first time but just another inflammatory way to shit on Sony. And with Sony doing such an excellent job of doing that themselves, do we really need more humorous ways to do it?

'Sony increased the price of their next generation console by 100% over the price of the PS2.'

See, I didn't have to make shit up but that's the most hilarious statement made over the past 12 months.

Here's another funny yet true statement that makes you laugh at Sony:
'PS3 is supply constrained.' /paraphrase

Edit: And to contradict what I just said, here is this:
Saitou, I come into threads looking for Anihawk. All I get is you. Either get funnier or get another avatar. J/K...but not totally. You're screwing me up.

this post is sex.

Did we really just spend two pages discussing title format? Leave it as is. Short and sweet. If you need more info, look inside.

Less drama when it's spoiled by a few random letters in the title. You need to come in and see the entire glory of Cheese's post in one fell swoop.

I do think it should be casual friendly though:

1) Include the word Japan/Japanese in the title so that ultra-casuals know what it is, like people who left the internet to go to GAF for a while, then back to the internet.

2) And maybe change the title to indicate that hardware numbers have come through.

I suggest "Japan Weekly Sales 5/7 - 5/13 (Media Create)".

I think it could mean more views and posts, but could it also alienate existing users because it doesn't start with "Media Create"?

High-def games are dead in Japan now,but it's not strange.

I think almost all larger screen high def TVs are in the dining room.At least in Japan.
But almost all high-def games are bloody FPS that killing someone by the chainsaw.
Even if it was not FPS,it might be the RPG that skinny vikini pantsed boys and girls.

I wonder who wants to play those nerdy games in the dining room?

I think no one watch the porno-vid in the dining room, but almost all high-res games are too nerdy for non gamers(sisters,girlfriends,mothers,daughters......99.9% of women).

I can't play the HALO2 or GOW with my sister or girlfriends.I will select the wii games.
In conclusion, widescreen high-def TVs are connect to the wii.PS3 and XBOX360 are for personal low-res TV in the bedroom.

I think this is the reason why hi-def games are dead in Japan.

Monster Hunter PSP is still on top 50 i see, is that the most selling game for PSP?
You just reminded me that MHP isn't a million seller yet, and its reprint on 4/26 was the last chance to get there (it was like 50-70k away). It didn't chart in MC Top50 for the last two weeks (first two weeks for the reprint), and unless it is in this week top30-50...I think it won't reach it, maybe by Capcom shipments.

Only addition I'd maybe like to see is the number of weeks since release alongside game titles - we all know that some of the DS games have crazy legs but could be nice to see how crazy.

Like (with some complete guesses at the number of weeks and one suggestion of a possible format)

TH/LW #W FMT TITLE - LW / LTD

01./00. [001] [PSP] Final Fantasy Tactics: The Lion War (Square-Enix) - 154,891 / NEW
02./01. [003] [NDS] Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings (Square-Enix) - 38,003 / 421,333
03./03. [030] [WII] Wii Sports (Nintendo) - 30,180 / 1,573,776
04./10. [078] [NDS] More Brain Age (Nintendo) - 27,930 / 4,266,115
05./08. [052] [NDS] New Super Mario Bros. (Nintendo) - 21,332 / 4,440,924
06./02. [004] [WII] Super Paper Mario (Nintendo) - 20,670 / 330,851
07./05. [026] [WII] Wii Play (Nintendo) - 20,498 / 1,299,628
08./07. [003] [WII] Big Brain Academy: Wii Degree (Nintendo) - 20,063 / 117,487
09./09. [003] [NDS] Momotarou Dentetsu DS: Tokyo & Japan (Hudson) - 18,547 / 143,189
10./04. [016] [NDS] Yoshi's Island DS (Nintendo) - 17,423 / 808,555

The format is very good as is though and maybe adding this extra stuff will just clutter it up :)

Anybody else look forward to Weds and Thurs nights? I kinda feel silly thinking about it, but it's fun watching the industry take shape...

FFS, I actively try to avoid making too heavy plans for these weeknights! :lol

I was going to reply with a smarmy .jpg, but I'm at work and forgot to upload that particular image to my photobucket.

So just imagine a white kitty wearing a straw hat with a macro that says "For this you die in your sleep."

I used to, but since I started working I can't stay up until 3 AM on weekdays anymore (which is when the numbers hit by my time) so I look forward to Thursday and Friday mornings instead. :D

Intuitive chart interface --> nice legs --> 1,000+ posts --> Non-thread.

While I personally prefer the simple Just Date approach, if you want to go for something to add context, yet not spoil any surprise and not just be DS AWESOME AGAIN!, how about naming the highest new entry in the title? It'd easily allow you to find specific launch periods of significant games, but not actually reveal where they came compared to most.

Lord knows I've commented on this before, but I think adding a # of weeks on to the front page isn't a bad suggestion. It's just the purely extranneous stuff that bothers me because it really is clutter - all the hyperlinks and boxarts. They don't even make it look more presentable, it just makes it less easy to look at.

Yeah, I like the idea of adding the "Japan" name at the title. That might attract the newly anointed and those that basically programmed themselves to ignore the words "Media Create".

I'm pretty sure from the 100,000+ views we get each week, that almost everyone knows these are the definitive Japanese sales numbers.

But I get the feeling that its always the same old people doing that 100,000 views :p

We need new blood.

I kinda like the idea of weeks in OP. It'd give perspective on DS dominating and 10 mile legs.

No, I was talking about the posting of the MC thread and HW numbers reply to GAF. Right now, I have to hit Ctrl-V and the Submit Thread or Submit Reply button. It'd be nice for my physical presence to not be required. :)

But it shouldn't be difficult to handle the automatic posting should it?

I mean apart from the translation stuff, since you already have all the scraping done a pair of post request should be more than enough (assuming the .Net framework has as good an HTTPClient library as Python or Ruby do, which I somehow doubt when I see the java ones but oh well...)

Remember what I told you about this before. Make sure you get permission from GAF.

Sorry to derail the topics at hand: "BE vs AE" and "Should the MC thread titles be more Wacky?" but here is my report for this week:

"Vinnk's Village" Anecdotal Report

My system is getting pretty good but it still takes a long time to visit all these stores, I was unable to get to Yamada Denki this week. It is the farthest from my house and I had to teach a night class last evening.

This week I was asked to look for: Wii, DS lite, FF12:RW, One Piece, Big Brain Academy, Super Paper Mario, Final Fantasy Tactics: The Lion War, and Ouendan 2. I went Thursday May 17th, 2007:

Jusco
Wii: Sold out
DS Lite: 1
FF12: RW 7
FFT: LW 4
One Piece: I could see 5, but possibly more.
Ouendan 2: 1

Youme Town
Wii: Sold out
DS Lite: sold out
FF12: RW 3
FFT: LW 6
One Piece: 2
Ouendan 2: Sold out

Mr. Max
Wii: Sold out
DS Lite: sold out
FF12: RW 2
FFT: LW 1
One Piece: 3
Ouendan 2: Sold out

Book-Net
Wii: Sold out
DS Lite: Sold out
FF12: RW 5
FFT: LW 1
One Piece: 2
Ouendan 2: Sold out

Goody
Wii: Sold out
DS Lite: 1 used
FF12: RW 2
FFT: LW Sold out
One Piece: 1
Ouendan 2: Sold out

Best Denki

FF12: RW 8
FFT: LW 3
One Piece: 9
Ouendan 2: 1

Famicom Dojo
Wii: Sold out
DS Lite: Sold Out
FF12: RW 1
FFT: LW 1
One Piece: 1
Ouendan 2: Sold out (Due to me yesterday)

Yamada Denki
N/A

TOTALS:
Wii: Sold out
DS Lite: 3
FF12: RW 35
FFT: LW 22
One Piece: 29
Ouendan 2: 3

NOTES:

1. For the second week in a row, there is not a single Wii system to be found in my town (unless Yamada Denki had some).

2. DS lite is still hard to find, but can still be found with a bit of searching.

3. One Piece is not supply constrained. It is found at every store in great numbers. The first shipment may have sold out but the second shipment has met or surpassed demand.

4. I was counting BBA and SPM at the first few stores but then it became obvious to me that neither title is supply constrained in the least. They are both selling well and it seems Nintendo anticipated that well, as they are both plentiful.

5. FF12: RW is not supply constrained and has never been supply constrained. And now that used copies are appearing at most stores I will make the prediction that it never will be supply constrained. However it is still selling at a respectable rate.

6. FFT: LW was available in every store except the porn shop.

7. Ouendan might be supply constrained, or it might be like the first Ouendan game, where some stores just never ordered any to begin with.

8. The shops are starting to realize that I am coming in every week on the same day. At one shop the owner met me at the door and said “Sorry, sir, we don’t have any Wii today.” I wonder if he thinks I am still looking to buy one and have just been unsuccessful for the last few months.

9. Sad news, “Old Reliable” (The PS3 at Famicom Dojo) was sold yesterday. A long time customer of Hiro’s came in and bought it along with the two Gundam games. Now there is just a big empty space on the store shelf, and a big empty space in my heart.
