Info about Studio Gobo's (Microsoft, Ubisoft) games (AAA AA new IP, existing F2P IP)

This information is from various job postings and one interview.

Studio Gobo has recently announced partnerships with Microsoft and Ubisoft for new games. I'll let you guess which is which.

Game 1:
This is a New IP.
This is also a AAA 3rd Person action/adventure game.
The jobs all ask for competitive multiplayer experience and/or multiplayer level design.
However, there are some mentions of cutscene animations, AI, and levels, so I'm not sure if there's some kind of campaign component or not. it could just be a slightly unusual multiplayer game.
The job postings mention "proprietary engine". This would normally suggest Ubisoft over Microsoft, but I'm not entirely due to Game 2's description.
They mention cross-platform a lot, though I guess Microsoft is cross-platform by virtue of Xbox and PC.

Game 2:
This is an F2P game.
This is based on a "globally-recognised IP for a major publisher".
It's a "large-scale project".
They ask for experience designing touch based interfaces, suggesting it is for mobile, or also on mobile. I guess it could technically be for Switch, though that strikes me as less likely.

Game 3(?):
This is possibly the same thing as game 2, but I'm not positive about that.
It's a Unity based game.
It's a Toys to Life game.
In an interview, Studio Gobo revealed it was in partnership with a "daring and ambitious partner", and that the hook would be that you keep interacting with your toy while playing the game.

I understand why you feel that 1 is MS and 2 is Ubi (and I agree),but.....fucking imagine MS jumping into Toys-To-Life this late. They would never hear the end of it.

A new toys to life game eh? They're rather late to that party, so imo that could suggest it's a rather big IP if they plan on having these things available to buy in shops.

Edit - Halo Mega Bloks

Toys to life... sounds like a fighting game. Probably Microsofts take on Smash Bros. With Game 3 being the mobile version (Injustice has been very successful on mobile and a similar mobile smashclone with gatcha mechanics across Microsoft IP would do pretty well.)

Game 1 seems like a typical Ubisoft open world.

If those are the two publishers involved.

Don't see why Ubisoft would let 3rd party studios develop their AAA when they already have the biggest workforce in the entire industry. They might just be working as associate studio.

1 or 2 is Microsoft, no way they are getting into TTL.
1 sounds the most likeley case. Maybe the did pick up Phantom Dust for real since we did not hear about a full cancellation.

Who would get into Toys to Life at this point?

If you would even want to attempt it you would need a variety of already established characters to sell. I don't see original characters possibly being successful.

So who could it be? Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network? I'm struggling of stuff that isn't Disney and wouldn't be covered by Dimensions.

Doesn't Ubi already have a bunch of cell phone games? Would make sense for them to keep pumping more out.

I could see MS being game 1 for sure.

So we don't know yet what the MS game is? Hoping for the first, that's the one that sounds most interesting to me. Really doubt MS would be going after toys to life now.

I'd guess 1 and/or 3 are Ubisoft with 2 being MS.

Game 1 sounds like a lot of Ubisoft's games, if it was a MS game I would have expected the word "cloud" to be in there (not in a bad way but I kind of see MS' large scale stuff requiring people to know about distributed computing architectures and Azure cloud tech).

Game 2 sounds like it would be something Microsoft would do as it sounds like it is something that could work on PC, phones and tablets (Surface). Also the use of the word "scale" makes me think MS.

Game 3 could be Ubisoft but do they want to be taking risks with toys to life (physical goods) when they are trying to stave off a take over? I doubt 3 is MS as the word ambitious is used and I don't see MS pumping a lot of money/resources into physical goods and from a studio not that well known (they along with Activision seem the least likely to take risks on games). However they have worked on the Disney Infinity games in the past so they know their stuff.

Some were suggesting that they could be reviving/re-working Fable Legends. I never played the beta, but didn't that use smart glass? Could be the touch screen UI they're talking about.

Though the crossplay but does point to MS with Play Anywhere... I certainly hope it's MS working on a new IP.

Yep, good point. Cross-play as in Play Anywhere and to me touch-based really doesn't sound like MS to me. Unless there are lots of details missing here and like you said maybe a touch screen UI. But at first glance it seems like Mobile to me.

I keep speculating it, but the only reason they wanted the Phantom Dust remaster out for free specifically "before E3" is to educate people before a big reveal

You really think it could be PD related? I mean the remaster and for free is great but is the IP big enough to warrant another chance? I mean are they willing to take that....risk i guess? Hopefully we hear something concrete soon, Gobo did say they would start to talk soon when they revealed the partnership but soon in this business can mean anything.

I'm really enjoying the Phantom Dust port and would love to see more, but the descriptions don't fit. It's neither a new IP nor a "globally-recognised IP."

'competitive multiplayer experience' makes Fable highly unlikely. Game 1 sounds like a Microsoft game through and through - their big push is games as services and that's exactly what that sounds like.

Game 2 and 3 sound like they could be the same game, but definitely Ubisoft.

Studio gobo developed the pirates of the Caribbean Disney infinity set, obviously they're working on the Ubi soft pirates game!

One of these uses Unreal Engine

Currently leading the gameplay team on an unannounced project being developed in Unreal.

Most likely this is Microsoft's games since they are using UE to all their upcoming external partners games (Crackdown, State of Decay) and IIRC Scalebound also used Unreal.

Seems pretty obvious that Project 2 & 3 are actually the same thing and they are assisting Ubisoft in the development of the Toys to Life game they unveiled at E3, Starlink: Battle for Atlas.

I think Project 1 is most definitely a new Fable game in development for Microsoft although it might be a long way off.
