So what's the game's premise?

Tembo the Badass Elephant is a super fun side scrolling action game with badass combat and fantastically satisfying destruction. You play as Tembo, the elephant commando, whose mission is to save Shell City from the dastardly PHANTOM army and the mysterious PHANTOM Commander. You will smash. You will dash. You will crash through hordes of heavily armoured enemy troops, and go head to head with some truly massive mechanical bosses.

What has inspired you?

From a gameplay point of view, definitely classic side-scrolling games from the 16-Bit era, including Yoshi's Island, Donkey Kong Country, Metal Slug and even Final Fight, great games like that. From a setting point of view, 80's action movies like the Rambo series or Commando.
From a spiritual point of view, I'd say the ancient Greek commander Hannibal. That guy did not give up, and he also worked alongside some ancient badass elephants.

What kind of modes are you going to offer?

This game is a single player game, with a main story mode. You can revisit stages, search for all the captured civilians, destroy every last PHANTOM enemy, and finish the stage with a quick time, all in order to get a total stage score. The score will then be shared on worldwide leaderboards. I'm really looking forward to seeing replay videos and high scores for this game!

Why is your new game not coming out for Wii U?

When I was writing the presentation documents for this game, I drew a
mockup poster, and I put the Steam, PlayStation, and Xbox logos at
the bottom. It seemed to fit, and it happened to stick that way. We thought about other hardware during development, but our hands were pretty full with those three platforms!

Turner's work as expected. But I'm not sure who's doing the orchestral music here...Adachi? She can do anything, even replace Kageyama.

Game looks cool for now, and I hope SEGA of Europe uploading the video means SEGA of America's going to publish this in the western hemisphere also. Also, this must be Game Freak's first PC game...smart move!

I know the whole Game Freak deal, but not even on a Nintendo system really is shocking. Damn. Feels kinda bad, like they betrayed Nintendo or something lol.

Anywayz: Now to watch the trailer as soon as I can find it on my other device because this one flat out doesn't work on YT. >_>

The fact that there isn't a Wii U version is the most interesting part of this whole thing to me.

Also a GameFreak game with Badass in the title.

Looks like a Wario / Donkey Kong -esque platformer, glad this is not a mobile only thing. I think I'll get this. :)

I get that, but even Game Freak the fanzine started out as the local high-score manual for kids wanting to play arcade games better. They're branching out and reclaiming some independence with Tembo, not sure why they should ignore 3DS and/or WiiU though.

Call me back when it's revealed the game has infinite lives or something I'm not into, lol.

I can tell it's not an Ichinose game, though. He's probably going to do something for Nintendo's install base if GF's maneuvering onto PC also.

I was absolutely not expecting this.

I know that Game Freak isn't owned by Nintendo, but for this to come out without a Wii U or 3DS SKU is a real shock to me. I wonder how this all came about?

Maybe Sega approached them and had a design plan laid out which said "we want you to make a game for Xbone"/PS4/PC"

I was actually thinking this, that it's probably Sega publishing and they didn't want to release it on the Wii U

But this is Gamefreak's art style. Have people here not played Harmoknight? Not everything is Sugimori based!

This looks amazing.
...and SEGA announcing something for next gen consoles and Steam? What a time to be alive.
